2021-05-20:
Fri:
Did exactly what I said last time, looked over my notes and wrote some more
bugs. That makes 5 for the new feature, which isn't bad.
Sent two more possibilities to Don, who sent them to others. I was like "I
think these are bugs but there's no spec that says they aren't what do?"
Didn't hear back. Helped Gina find a machine with a (ugh) fax card in it.
*checks calendar* yup still 2021!
Then wrote maybe the next to last chapter. I know how I'm going to defeat
the Dragonlord. The hero. How I'm going to write the hero defeating the
dragon- you know what I mean.
Came back home, checked sites, did not do game. Sean has maybe
strep or something, his throat is really sore but the quick test didn't show
a positive. He canceled. Hope you feel better soon!
More myst videos.
Worked on the controller. While I did correct the mistake in the first
attempt, it seems my efforts were in vain. Probably destroyed the traces, it
wouldn't work at all now. So I guess it gets recycled. I have learned, which
is sometimes all one can do.
Sat:
Did the paperwork for last month first thing, get that out of the way.
Cleaning, in case my parents come.
Then worked on moving the berry bushes that have survived the Great Pruning
over into my yard. Raked the dirt (they for some reason put grass seed in
the front but not on the side. Lazy? What are you guys doing?) so it looks
like nothing ever happened. The perfect crime. Now to hope they stay alive
and thrive where I've put them.
Finished the yard work by cutting the back lawn.
Finally reached bluetooth lady at 11:00, had not attempted yet. So I am not
going there yet.
Inviting for movie night - rejected because of shops! They were doing a
garage sale type thing there I guess, so I hope they got rid of a lot of
stuff. Don't worry, they have more stuff.
Worked on finding a gift for Mizzy. Decided on 3D printing after all. Broke
it into pieces as the original print I wanted to do was going to take 33
hours! Yipes! Still going to have to break it up more somehow, the first
part was easy because it's got like a base built in, so it won't be as
noticeable as on Sean's that I printed it in two pieces. But that still
leaves almost 24 hours printing. Maybe I can do some of the sticking out
bits separate? Have to see, I mean people do leave them printing that long
but I'm not so sure about it. Was about to start when bluetooth lady called.
Like, I had turned the machine on, warmed it up, changed the fillimant that
had snapped, and was about to hit the button when the phone rang.
Sigh. Got it connected though, it wasn't hard or anything. Why she's using a
dedicated GPS unit instead of just using her phone I have no idea.
Maybe she doesn't know? Seems stupid to me, buying a device to perform a
function when you have a device that already performs that exact function.
Got back here. Decided not to do the start of the print,
Watched a couple of movies.
Played one of those indy games.
Sun:
Started the first 8 hour print of Mizzy's gift.
Checked my plants, all seem okay.
Checked sites and movies.
While doing so, had to restart the print as after like an hour and a half it
got knocked off the platform. Sigh.
I used the screws to raise the bed just slightly, I mean we're working at a
scale of mm here, and restarted it. It's past the part it got knocked at
before so it looks good so far. I should have stopped it earlier, I had seen
some of the lines not sticking, but then the next layer seemed okay I
figured it would smoosh it down. Not so much I guess. Again, more of that
learning stuff I guess.
Ate lunch, more Myst video, and then made pie. As well as muffins at the
same time.
Played some games from my games folder, the ones from that big bundle I got
some time ago. Have to get through them somehow!
Got ready for tomorrow.
Called Ellen about her paper jam, no answer.
Another guy with a $200 laptop that's dying? Who would have thought? Wants
his data transferred to a macbook. Ugh, he's half an hour away. Typical.
Can't ever be just down the street.
Ellen called back, her printer jams, and then windows decides it's jammed
forever, despite removing it and putting it back. Hilarious, one forum post
said "I have a mac and a PC hooked up to this printer. The Mac is smart
enough to know it's not jammed anymore, the PC is not. What do?" Priceless.
Finally got it working again. I hate windows so much.
But one piece of good news. Just as I was about to get into bed, laptop guy
calls. (This is 11:00 PM by the way) He got it "fixed" though some bizarre
means involving another monitor and a system update? Okay, sure. Upshot- I
just saved an hour of driving. Nice.
Mon:
Having gotten a reply to the Friday issue of "bugs or not?" I wrote them
both up as bugs. One reply was not "yes write it up" but "I'll be interested
to see what they can do!" which I took to mean write it up so, whatever.
Got a new card reader, snapped it together, I'm told it should work the same
as another card reader we have so I'll test that tomorrow. Along with some
sFTP thing if I can find an sFTP server around to test with. Right now I
don't know of one.
Oh, and helped the developer guy in the other lab to show him the password
issue on the one card. I think it might be fixed, for something else, we
deleted a certain file and that may have fixed this too, because when I
tried it on later builds with that fix it worked just fine.
That's about all work wise.
Finished up the Dragon Warrior story. Now just have to proofread it once.
Came back here, sliced another section off Mizzy's gift. Another 8 hours of
printing apparently so I didn't start it.
No calls.
Checked sites, videos as usual.
Tues:
Busy on and off. Meeting with devs, various requests and more of the sFTP
thing.
Lady moved to tomorrow, lacrosse game.
Came back here.
Videos, sites.
one hour on the phone for HP printer. Black only? Maybe? Who knows.
Then warframe again.
Wed:
Not a lot to talk about, work wise. Little stuff, though I could have done a
sanity test of the new versalink software. Don has this whole wall of text I
didn't see in teams because it happened before I got my computer on. Thanks
MS.
Only saw it late in the day. I asked Christina which models she did, I would
do some. So that can be done tomorrow.
Emailed the voice people, maybe I'll get a cert soon? The guy that responded
seemed to think he had found the problem.
Otherwise just finishing up the read of the dragon warrior story. You can
find it in the books section!
Came back home, ate dinner. Then went out to see farm lady. Got her all set.
Came back here.
Got ready for tomorrow, did my meter readings, the usual sites and videos.
Some warframe.
Thurs:
Meeting day. Had the usual meetings, got to check off the Versalink stuff as
done as it seems the build we got became the final, so we didn't have to do
anything else to it. Nice.
Defended a bug, "oh but it's always worked that way" is not a defense, guys.
Let's be better. (We won't.)
Nothing much else exciting.
Came home as no job. Checked sites, the usual stuff there. One call, tried
her but it was busy. Linux lady from last month, something about email.
So what is coming up?
Not sure what I'll work on tomorrow. After work of course I'll do the
shopping, probably get gas after that hour of driving yesterday, and see my
parents. Probably run game, finally can finish up that battle with the demon
and get to zombie land. Then saturday I have one job as of yet, and probably
linux lady if I reach her.
Have my parents over, as no game until next week.
Over the weekend I want to print part 2 of Mizzy's gift (if I have a spare 8
hours), cut the front lawn (it's super nice out now, in the 80s suddenly?)
and I can't think of anything else. Start a new book project? Go back to
Lysanias? I don't know, I need to write something, right?
Watched more Myst videos and got ready for bed.
Whoops, totally forgot to call Linux lady. Sigh.
Anyway, see you all next week, at the end of May. We're about halfway
through 2021 already.
