2020-11-19:
Fri:
Cleaned out the rest of the recycle bin. Got I think 10 tablets total. Plus
the same number of USB hubs, (good ones), bar code readers that sell for
$100, all the cables. Crazy. Glad I go back there and check that out every
once in a while. Got more black paper too a whole stack of it. This stuff
wasn't even printed on, did they not need it at all? So go give it back to
who you got it from or something. I mean come on.
Back and forth with the voice person. He got me a new build after lunch. He
thought it would work because the log said it did. Nope! It did the same
thing, telling me it didn't have permission to do what I wanted it to do.
Writing.
Meeting to set up the new equitrac piece. Couldn't test, he's hard coded
(ugh) the IP address. Great job dummy. So we need to wait for him to un-hard
code the address or to hard code a different address. In any case nothing
else I can do there.
Gas, got the exact amount of gas I expected, and the gauge is full now.
Hasn't happened in some time. Weird.
Groceries. No real surprises there.
Home! Soup and sites, then waiting for game time. We got into the spire, but
it was completely empty and pointless to be there. So we left, and got
attacked by a metal bug thing. So much for keeping anti-scrying magic going
I guess.
Sat:
Did the morning job, printer tray didn't move and cleanout. Apparently this
(crappy) epson had a paper tray, a paper tray on top of that one, and the
output tray that was supposed to automatically extend. Well, it didn't, but
because they were so close together I thought the other paper tray was the
output tray. Finally figured out it wasn't and yanked it out manually, then
the printer worked. Good job, Epson. In your attempt to be flashy and
mechanize something that didn't need to be, you created another failure
point and it failed. But at least I worked around it, the output tray is
just stuck out forever now. Petted pup.
Came back, had lunch.
Out again, replaced router, petted second pup. Her TV actually isn't a smart
TV, but at least I got her phone on the new wireless.
Back home.
Did leaves, still haven't gotten all of them but maybe with the high wind
we're supposed to get soon they'll come down.
Did xmas shopping at last!
Then game. In which we got absolutely nowhere chasing down the instigator of
the plot from last time. We got a nice tour of the city on the other side of
the dimensional barrier though. When Sean said the adventure wasn't over
last time, we all thought that meant we would actually find the person
responsible for the theft of the book so we spent the entire time looking
around for them. Not so much. Well, Neil has some plan for our next
adventure so we'll see what he's got in mind after turkey day.
Sun:
Didn't get the wind we were supposed to, so leaves are still on the trees.
There were some down of course but I think I'll wait for more.
Did more shopping. From the comfort and convenience of my own home. Thank
you, internet.
Then out to see about wi-fi guy. I pulled the adapter out of the one and the
built in was fine.
The other one was loose, at least I suspected this because device manager
didn't even show that it had wi-fi hardware. Luckily the bottom came right
off, I didn't need to tear the whole thing apart, and reseating it brought
it back. Done.
Came back here, finished the chapter, only got through half the "let's
change the video like in V for Vengeance" plan, so we'll get to the second
part in the next chapter.
Sites, videos, oh, and I saw a rainbow on the way home. That's two this
year, maybe things will get better? Thanks Rainbow Brite, I needed to see
that. It was a double in fact for a bit, so it was double plus good.
Watched a movie, no calls the entire weekend, thank you! Got ready for
tomorrow, the usual Sunday stuff.
Mon:
Looked at the clean hands machines, saw what they were up to in order to
troubleshoot the issues in the field. The one machine was a bit slow, but
recovered seemingly. So not what I was seeing before. I took the log, but
whoops the decryption server doesn't work, so it's just fun times all round.
And nothing else. Didn't get anything from the voice people, so the day
passed quite slowly.
Came back home, had one call the deaf guy with the mac so it'll be so minor
as to not be worth going there, got another, and took delivery of the LCD so
we can try that for the third time.
Checked sites, videos, the usual. Wrapped some gifts as I'm going by Sean's
Saturday for an appointment, so I figured I would get my santa duties done
at the same time. Given I may not see them at all until sometime next year,
and I've already missed giving him his birthday present.
Did some quiplash with the crew.
Tues:
Same story today, loaded the clean hands on every machine that can run it in
the lab to see what would happen overnight. Otherwise, no new voice, no new
release to test. We're supposed to get the final build of the altalink
product on the 23rd, moved up from the 27th, so we'll see. There's not much
until then. Maybe voice stuff tomorrow after the meeting?
Wrote what could be the next to last chapter. I realized I didn't really
roll the wards the group was using to sneak around and given how easy it is
to fail a roll in paragon I felt I had cheated my characters out of a bunch
of action. (And by action I mean murder hoboing) Then I thought, ah hah,
what if they were all told to ignore aliens running around because the
shadow avatar knew what they were doing and wanted to surprise them with a
message of his own? That could work! So I made that all part of the plan,
and he called Lysanias out. "If you want to finish this, come to such and
such a place and throw down." Paraphrased of course. So it's them against an
army, and Lysanias is going to head inside and maybe it'll be an epic fight!
(Who am I kidding, it won't. By the rules you can't have an epic fight, I
mean look at endgame. Cap America gets thrown around but super soldier
serium didn't make his bones harder to break, it just made him stronger and
faster. I'm sorry, after two hits from Thanos he's dead. That fight is over.
But no, he takes all that punishment and seems just fine when everyone else
shows up, he continues fighting as though not hurt at all. That just can't
happen in this system. Oh well.)
Stopped after work to get a thing or two for christmas.
Went out to see safari guy. His machine... I don't know. I ran mbam, an
antivirus which said it found two things, but when he hits the back button
in safari it goes away from google and to yahoo or bing. I don't get the
point or where it's coming from. Poked his machine for an hour and a half
and finally said "use chrome where it doesn't seem to happen." So bizarre.
Came back here, wrapped a gift as I had bought what I needed to put in the
box to wrap it. So I'm ready to take the stuff Saturday.
Wed:
Actually got things to do today. All the things!
We launched the no touch copy app so I installed that on a few machines and
just did a simple test to make sure it worked. It did, no issues. Meanwhile
the hand wash app continues to behave itself. Maybe it's only a weekend
thing? It has to be asleep for more than 12 hours? I don't know.
Got two new versions of the voice app. He finally fixed the issue for the
newer machines, so I went and tested that. Apart from secure job release
being really wonky it performed adequately. I guess. It still has the fax
problem the other system does. Give up faxes already. goodness.
Then back to the original voice system. Still now news on the equitrac
piece, they've having trouble building something. Most of the copy issues
are solved, I can do original size and specific trays now. Scaling gives me
an error. That's all they said they worked on so that's all I tested. I'll
have to do a full test once the equitrac piece is put in place anyway so I
figure why bother at this point? Am I really going to find something after
10 months? It was in January we started all this after all.
Wrote a bit of the next chapter.
Went to staples, picked up a few things such as a new calendar for next
year. As I'll probably continue this wonderful double work stuff I so enjoy.
Then out to the guy with the LCD for the 3rd time. If it's in a certain
position it doesn't work at all. Bad cable? I just can't win can I?
Back here, checked sites, one hangup call so no calls currently. Yay!
Snowing though. Boo! All day just tiny flakes coming down. Not sticking yet
but it will, don't worry but it will.
Thurs:
Warmed up a little today, make up your mind!
Did a little bit more of the hands today, but mostly just seeing if there
were any problems with the sleeping machines. It's still a bit of a tossup.
Had the meeting in the morning, talked about the new task when some new
cards come in. Yeah, just do 4 cards with one of every family of products we
support. Super easy, right? That's 6 models times 4 cards, there should be a
way to find out how many complete runs that is. Something about a table. Oh
well, can't think about it. Still nothing from Celivo, and nothing from the
voice people.
Finished the latest chapter. He escaped! Yes, once Lysanias got his power
back I realized if the bad guy can teleport, why would he just sit there and
blow up? Clearly, he wouldn't. So he's back on the battlefield. The attack
continues.
Had the afternoon meeting, and watered the plants. Place is getting emptier
again because we all couldn't do things right the first time, so now we have
to do them again. I'm talking about lockdowns, but I'm looking at you soon
to not be Our Great Leader.
And yes, he's still having his "lawyer" flail about in court not knowing
about "opaque" means and getting cases tossed out left and right. It's over
dude, you lost. There was no fraud. Apart from you getting in four years
ago.
Happy Xerox Day. Yes, this is the day in 2002 they let me go. I showed them,
waiting 10 years and going back to make half my previous salary. I showed
them all.
Those that are left, anyway.
Uh, what else? Anything interesting? I guess not. My phone was discharging
really fast, what's that all about?
Looking to the days and week ahead, not much planned for tomorrow I don't
think, unless the voice people come through with something. Getting gas,
shopping, and then seeing my parents. Hope I still remember where they live!
I'm kidding, I was there last week or was I? One job Saturday way out in the
boonies, and delivering Sean's gifts after that. One call today but I, I
guess, helped her enough. She was using apple calendar which should be
synced and finally she decided it was, she saw what she was looking for. So
I don't have to go out for that.
We're getting (supposedly) the D4.0 software to spot check on Monday, so
that'll take maybe the morning. Then thurs-Fri we have off, nice. I'll turn
my christmas lights on, put up the tree probably Friday, and December will
come like a freight train.
But I'll have more on that Thursday, I'll post a blog don't you worry about
that. Let's hope for a quiet weekend of finishing up the Arsenal book and
moving on. I'll do an in-between chapter or two where I find a new Rommie
unit (She done got blowed up) and then it's into the Last Unicorn. I'm
combining it with Dragon Slayer and maybe any other worlds I can find that
are losing magic. Those are the two I have in mind, but no idea the actual
story progression yet. Maybe I'll take a break and play video games or
something for a bit. Who knows? Future me does.
Finished the fight, the avatar gave him what he needed, and made Lysanias
much more dangerous in the future. Nice job, hero!
See you next week, I hope you have a good, socially distant, Thanksgiving. See then then.
