2020-11-05:
Fri:
Got through one model of the new software build. Christina took the other,
as I was going to do two. Had a bit of trouble with one card, only it would
not give me the path for scan to home. Turned out I missed the @* in the
LDAP query. So, why just that one card? Further, why does one type of
machine need that, and the other doesn't? It's so weird.
Otherwise, not much else. I did set up the machine and provide directions to
Gina so she can do her stuff with the altalink in back.
No new problems found so that's good, I don't think we'll have to do more
for this card thing. Should be a major boon to card using companies. Saves
everybody a lot of effort.
My gas gauge was down to half again but putting gas in it stopped (I put in
$6.66) and I still "need" a quarter tank. I think it's busted. Weird.
Did the shopping.
Went to see my parents, no Gabe yet. Got a floppy disk, and they decided no
movie this week. As I won't see them next week (if we do the Saturday game)
it'll be awhile because they're working at the Shops a bunch early November.
You still have to get me your Christmas lists though.
Came back here, put stuff away. Checked sites. No game, so got ready for
tomorrow. Worked a bit on the next chapter, it's slow going I haven't even
got back to Lysanias' action yet. Sheesh. I'm not writing out what's going
on with the others, just what he's doing. Learned that the hard way, with
the books before this describing everything was just too painful. I just
need to see if somebody doesn't make it. Samantha almost got killed, again.
That poor woman!
Sat:
Today was sort of terrible.
1st one was supposed to be "come set up my printer." Short, easily done.
Right? Nope, it turned into "oh setup my whole new laptop." Uh, no? That's
at least an hour job and I have two more places to be this morning. So I
told her I would come back. I set the printer up though. She went and got a
box of cartridges for it, there were 5 in the box, but her printer takes
six. Are you really printing photos, so often that you need a printer with 6
cartridges? What a waste of money.
2nd one was the gaming PC I recently reloaded for a lady. She sold it- and
now it seems completely dead. I changed everything in there, the power
supply, the video card, moved the RAM around, reseated the heatsink (that
giant thing I was complaining about before.) Nothing. It turns on, just
doesn't do anything after that. I just went through it and made it
all nice and pretty. What happened to the dumb thing? After an hour I gave
up. Nothing I coud do. So frustrating.
Passed book guy, could have brought him his printouts. I had checked it, but
was like, no, I'm not going near there, right? Wrong. I was.
3rd one was "I see the bars" which was really "my lcd isn't working." Guess
how it went wrong- not a desktop! Laptop. I guess I should have specifically
asked, but I didn't so that one is partially on me. Still, would it have
killed him to say "my laptop screen has..." I don't think so. Got the number
off it. I left it dissassembled as I have to go back, he later called me
that he turned it on and it was working fine!!! After, of course, I ordered
the pannel. Great, another one for the box that I'll never use and one day
throw away. Neat. Maybe he'll buy it as a "spare" I don't know. Didn't call
him back, I just couldn't handle it.
Went home, ate lunch.
Back to first one. Set up laptop. Office 2003? I guess it works, though
Outlook doesn't save where she leaves off so she has to open her gmail
portion and then the inbox. Well, that's what you get for using 17 year old
software I guess.
Finally home at 4:00. At least there was some small bright side- no other
calls today.
Ordered LCD. Put checks in.
Did the leaves for an hour- figured I might as well. There were not many,
and tons more had blown down by Monday, but at least it'll be a little
easier because of the work I did today.
Watched a few episodes of Supergirl while I waited for anyone to come
looking for candy. Almost 8:00 and no one yet.
No one came. Played some Shante and got further, but now I'm stuck again.
Looks really good in 4K!
Sun:
Did some cleaning, like I mopped the floor in the kitchen and did some
laundry.
Listed the projector on ebay. It doesn't go for much, but if I can get my
money back for the brand spanking new freaking bulb I bought
because I thought I would need it, and make a little on the unit itself to
pay part of the cost of the TV, eh, why not? I don't really see any need to
keep it around. I don't have any wall space anywhere big enough. Now to deal
with the monitor as I didn't sell the one. I have them all over the place
now.
Did writing, finished up the battle and took the alien into custody. He has
some info for them not not really enough. Space travel especially across
star systems must be extremely complicated. It's hand waved away in nearly
all fiction but really, your target isn't in the place you see it because
it's light years away, so you have to figure out how fast it's going in
relation to you, then aim for where you think it'll be by the time you
arrive. Go faster or slower than that calculated value and you've missed it
completely and now have to try again. I'm not actually sure how they're
going to get there. He doesn't know his "home coordinates" any more than
you, reading this, do. If you got dropped off on some alien planet how would
you explain to the natives there how to get you home? You couldn't. Same
with him. Lysanias may be able to look into his brain and see his home town
but he certianly can't teleport there, and the ship with the computer that
held the coordinates left weeks ago. Maybe Pythia can tell them?
Played more Shantae, got unstuck and moved to a new island.
Hail!
Not for long, but there was some. Going to be quite chilly the next few
days, busted out the winter jacket.
Got ready for tomorrow, turned the clocks back so I would get more sleep
going into Monday instead of stupidly Sunday when I can sleep however late I
want anyway (like who came up with that idea of Sunday anyway?) and went to
bed.
Mon:
Fairly busy today. Had a meeting in the morning about the test results from
before about the contactless card readers and what it all meant. He wanted
another test done, to see what ATR string was being used on the contactless
card method, so I had to set that up. The D5.3 machine wouldn't let me log
in as root, which was a real treat, so I finally moved over to D4.0. That
did, and I found the ATR string! Oh, and I had a tutorial about log levels
and other command line tools available in the system. Probably more detail
than I ever needed, even if he did say Chris used some of that stuff
regularly. But I digress. The card did log in with D4.0, using the new "just
do it" menu option and adding the string to the file. It took, uh, way too
long? But it's a start.
Otherwise, more work and not writing. The list is down to like 8 things, and
3 of those things are D5.4 things that simply can't be done. Neat.
Went to see dentist guy. Put the back of his LCD panel on, and his touch
sensor didn't work anymore. Neat. I hate everything. He wanted to hook up a
bluetooth speaker to his TV so he could listen to it in another room. He has
a TV in 3 rooms. Needless to say, that TV doesn't have bluetooth. And why
would a TV have that anyway? The speakers are supposed to be right there.
Not half the house away. Sorry, four rooms. The kitchen, his room, upstairs,
and I'm pretty sure around the other side of the stairs upstairs. What room
are you in that doesn't have a TV?
Came back here. Checked sites, oh and it snowed today by the way. It didn't
stick around, surfaces aren't cold enough but it gives you a nice preview of
what's to come. Lots of leaves down after the wind and the raining and the
hail from yesterday. Doesn't even look done, which is good, I guess?
One call, the lady from Saturday I went back to twice, some rant about how I
was totally right about something and she was going to call me later. Okay I
guess? I mean I know I'm right but what the heck are you talking about lady?
Called LCD panel guy back, he still wants to change it out. I'm fine with
it. No other calls, so maybe I get to come home (in the dark, sigh) directly
from work tomorrow.
Got ready for tomorrow, perhaps doing stuff with the crew, unlike last week?
Nope.
Tues:
So the plan for today was to load up the new version of the voice stuff and
give it a whirl. Guess what didn't happen today? Exactly. I loaded it, but
when I plugged the unit into the network again it got a different IP address
and wouldn't connect to the server. When this usually happens with the other
system I send it a reset and add it back to the server. Well, the reset code
doesn't seem to work I found. So then the "left to go vote" and didn't come
back all day so nothing got done. Thanks, voice guy!
So I put together a little "studio" for Louis to come and film the copy app
stuff, got that machine ready. He came at 2:00, left just as I was so I'll
put it back the way it was tomorrow. No big deal. Not like I have anything
else to do. Oh, more voice stuff on the way so maybe I can do all that
finally.
Otherwise very important work stuff, and not writing, obviously.
Came back here, did the front lawn because why not? Didn't take long figured
I would get 'er done for today. Though it's supposed to be nicer the rest of
the week. 20 degrees warmer, even.
Checked sites, dinner, just one call, carpet guy (is his still carpet guy??)
and printers? He has a couple of printers, how many printers do you need,
dude? I'm going there Thursday, he didn't want tomorrow. Fine, I won't come
tomorrow then.
Got ready for bed and more Borderlands with the crew. Huh, this'll be the
first borderlands on the new tv right?
Thought a little bit more about the earring Lysanias got for killing
Sangray, poor guy, shot in the back and then cut in half with two swords. I
forgot he put up a bit better fight with Susan, but he had just lost his
other powers by teleporting to where Lysanias was, and hadn't had a chance
to reconnect yet. Maybe I should rewrite that and give him more of a chance?
Hummm...
Wed:
Had the meeting with the voice guy, he got the new software loaded so it
would at least connect properly. Sadly, both he and I are having the same
issue, that is, it no works no more. Gives an error that the action isn't
allowed. He thinks maybe the time change did it? Stupid time change. As it
worked before that and nothing else has changed. He was going to look into
it more.
I did what testing I could, which wasn't much. Email hung completely, fax
didn't work, and secure print release did the same thing where it worked
once and then not again. Nice. Hey, your software is crap! Fix it!
Nothing for the original voice project, he says he figured out the empty
queue thing, he's going to put together a demo. Why not just put together
getting me the software so I can just try it myself?
So that was the morning, oh, and I picked up after Louis and put everything
back where it belonged after the filming. Hope he got what he needed.
Wrote another chapter. Did not rewrite, forgot about it honestly.
Came back here, one call about printers. Cleaned up the back yard, despite
not even a quarter of the leaves having fallen yet. On my tree, anyway. The
tree in the way back is all down. Then put up my Christmas lights! Yup, it
was so nice out and I had the time, I did it. What of it I could, two
strings flat out don't work any more. Sigh. Maybe I'll find a loose bulb but
rust, rust is the enemy.
Checked sites, still don't have a new president yet, so many red states. Who
looks at the last four years and says, "you know what, I would really
like more of that please. Oh yes, Mr. Trump, lie to me. Lie to me you big,
orange brute. Show me that picture of you in tennis shorts again, you wanna
be dictator. Rip those kids away from their parents, oh it makes me so hot
to think you did that! Cheat on your wife with a porn star and then pay her
off I wish I could get away with that like you did." etc. etc. Who does
that?
Did the haunting a couple times with the crew, cleaned out my backpack so I
can actually start picking stuff up and finish off buying my SDUs.
Thurs:
The usual meetings today, no news from the voice people so I guess they're
either having trouble tracking down the issue or they lost power again or
something. Watered the plants. That's about it, nothing really exciting.
Went to set up the printers. They actually didn't give me any trouble at
all, I was in and out of there. For once, I almost seemed to know what I was
doing.
Came back here, watched V for Vengeance. If you've seen it, you know why I
watched it today. If you haven't then perhaps you should. It's the way your
world is going. Do we have a new president yet? *checks google* Nope.
Looking at the map, it's so weird. The edges are mostly blue, and the middle
is all red. How does that work? Shouldn't be almost random? What spell makes
the middle of the country vote Republican? So weird.
One call, the lady I set the laptop up for wants me to put the old one back.
Huh? I mean what did you expect when you bought a new windows PC? It's going
to be the same as your other windows PC that's right next to it. No really,
what did you expect?
So I have two for Saturday. I'm going to try and get urine from cats in the
morning, we'll give them a bunch of salmon water and hope for the best.
They're only open until 12:00 so... We'll start early, I guess. Then
appointments.
Tomorrow no parents or game, so just work. I'll get groceries of course,
maybe gas though it hasn't moved past 3/4 of a tank all week. We might do
video game stuff just not RPG stuff tomorrow.
Then Saturday I explained, and hopefully a quiet day Sunday. Maybe I'll go
down and put the LCD in, but that could wait until Monday too, right?
Checked sites, got ready for bed. Two more Thursdays until Turkey day, hope
you have your turkey hat made. What, you don't know about the turkey hat?
Where have you been?
See you next week!
