2020-10-01:

Fri:
Cats in the morning. Onix = alive so that's good. Still ran pell mell away from me as if I was coming at him with a knife, but baby steps I guess.
Good working day. Got the other machines done for the copy test. Finishing does some weird stuff. Wrote that up in the document I'm maintaining for him of bugs. Like folding doesn't work at all, and there's no way to uncollate when there's a finisher even if you want no other options? Odd.
Then got the new version of the voice system that works in the new location. Verified some fixes. Doesn't seem to hear me all of the time, but then, who does?
Verified color worked. Got them the list of copy options that don't. Like tray, pretty important, if you want something other than letter paper and really, why would you?
Did the shopping. Came back here.
Got a laptop dropped off, oh you say it's slow? Maybe because it's a crappy windows machine with a crappy HD? Just a thought.
Another 1TB job, and he's used... 50gb. Great. Hey PC manufacturers, maybe enough with the spinning rust drives? SSDs are cheap now, let's switch over to them. K?

Then game. We did good, staying on task and we actually made it to a major milestone we set for ourselves. What we'll do at this point is up in the air, but we actually survived to see a goal though. Something we wanted to do, not just the dictates of the plot. It feels real goooooood.

Sat:
Went over to feed everybody, saw Onix (he's still scared of me) and Gabe even showed up.
Came back here, spread some fertilizer around in the berries. Probably put more on in the spring, when we clip them. Need to figure out why I used to have more bushes back there. I guess my trees are crowding them out?
Then worked on the laptop, changed the HD to an SSD, pretty big improvement.
Got my ballet, looked it over. Why is Drumpf running on both Republican and conservative parties? Does voting for him as a conservative count "less" than voting for him as a Repub? I don't get it. What's it all about? How did one guy get to run on all party tickets? Was there just no one else to choose? So confusing. Filled it out and put it in the mailbox. Sorry Drumpf, I voted by mail and got it in way before election night so even if you try to block anything after that from being counted, it's in. Enjoy it.
Worked on the book, proofreading mostly.
Watered the plants.
Played some Xenoblade.
Watched some stuff.

Sun:
Last feeding of the everybody over there. Cleaned up everything, nothing was on fire what are you talking about?
Came back here, worked on Mizzy's gift. Shamelessly stole my parent's sander which sped up the job tremendously. Problem is both sides have pros and cons, which side do I choose as the front? I could put the chain on the side, that would let her choose. Hummm.
Posted all of Lysanias Chronicles on the site. Go to the book section to check it out.
Worked on putting my sword of omens back together from the latest split. My father suggested holes and toothpicks. I said, hold my beer, I drilled some holes and am trying some small nails. It would save me having to reprint the whole thing with a groove for a dowel. We'll see how it goes. As I can only do one section at a time per 24 hour cure it'll be awhile.
Baked a pie, just got it in as there's only three days left in September.
Did some reading.
Cleaned the mouse. From what I could tell, they didn't want to pose for me like before, they're doing better. I mean they haven't died, so that's something. No more weird infection looking thing on their belly.
Made my calls, I have through Wednesday booked. Some iPhone instruction, someone in Victor wanting a new router, and then Wed is the opposite direction but no less driving he says his machine hangs at the lenovo logo. Neat.
Got ready for tomorrow, the last three days of Sept.

Mon:
Lots of work today. I did some more voice stuff, that took the morning. Wrote up a few more things, I was basically going through the old bugs, see if any had been fixed, and figured out something that had vanished before. Apparently if you leave a piece of paper in the document handler and reboot, it causes the system all sorts of problems. Crazy.

Then we got the new build of the older printer line, that takes away the card file we used to use. So I got a start testing that. Wrote up two bugs, so it was worth it. I'll need to do more testing tomorrow on the one model.

Went to go show a lady how to do certain things on the iPhone, then came back here.
Sites, dinner, got ready for tomorrow in case we did a game or something. Sean dropped out? We did nothing so I did Xenoblade instead. Got some loyalty missions done.
One call, just the lady I got the backup drive for, so I have Thursday booked. Super.
Tomorrow is the router guy in Victor.

The sword thing isn't going to work, I'm going to have to reprint it. I just can't clamp them together enough to get them to glue. Maybe I need a thicker glue, to help hold it in place? I have no idea how I did it originally. The other piece came off while I was trying, so clearly it's not the right kind of glue or something. I think I'll have to glue them to the inner rod, like the bottom half first, then do the top half to the bottom half. Well, someday anyway. Man, the plastic for my printer is almost impossible to find. What, did we stop making plastic when I wasn't looking? So weird. Got it on amazon everywhere else (including makerbot itself) was sold out. Sheesh. Maybe if I coated the nail in hot glue, the plastic in regular glue, and shoved them together and just held them until the hot glue got cold? I guess I could try that.

Tues:
Spent the whole day doing more card machine testing stuff. One of my bugs may be fixed, the other is ye old "oh, that's working as intended." Uh huh, sure it is. Wrote another bug though, the selection you make the first time isn't respected, you have to go do it again. Can't say that one is working as intended, brah.

May get a new build of the touch less copy app tomorrow, and probably the voice system as well so I'll be well stocked with stuff to do. Neat.

Went out to Victor, set up their router and took care of the new laptop. No real issues. And he's getting a PS 5? Uh, okay, sure.

Came back here, ate dinner, checked sites. No calls? How did that happen?

Played some Xenoblade.

Wed:
Did you watch the debate last night? I totally forgot! No really, I was going to at least catch part of it but no, totally forgot. I heard it went really well, Our Great Leader really shone, using logic and reason to pick apart his opponent's (what's that guy's name again?) arguments. He was soft spoken, respectful, and most of all immediately decried hate groups and- sorry, one second I'm being handed something. What? Oh, that was in the bizarro universe? So silly of me, I get our two universes confused all the time.

Anyway, work! Got the voice system very late in the day, couldn't load it.
Got a new touch less app, took a look at the bugs and they were fixed. Some were not, we had a meeting about it. Don't know why we bothered, it's ye 'ol "there's never time to do it right but always time to do it over" beastie. Louis, how could you? "Oh, we'll see if customers complain about that." Uh, no, they won't. They'll just either not use the app or think twice about buying our stuff in the future. That's how it works. Or they'll post on forum sites that we'll never see, or they'll blog about it- wait, that sounds familiar.

Also finished another machine for the card changes. Some odd things, but I got through it. Christina crashed her machine just by putting a card in. Great, great software.

And a few meetings, so really the day was packed and I left a half hour after I usually do. Which meant I didn't get home as soon as I would have liked. Went over to see guy, I suspected his drive from the start but not in this way. His machine boots fine. When this drive is not plugged in. USB, DVD, hangs immediately on boot if the drive is plugged in. Unplugged, it's fine. But the drive is fine. I can copy stuff off it, and I got it to boot with USB by putting my SATA/USB adatper on it and booting it that way. He has a second drive from an old machine in there, and I copied his stuff right off. It's not the cable or the port. Just when I thought I had seen it all, MS, you surprise me again you cheeky little...

So I'm getting him a new drive. Ordered it.

Two calls today, but just questions and phone help so no new appointments. Tomorrow I go to set up the backup so I should be home a little earlier.

Must have rained all day, though I didn't hear it. My lid was almost full, and it was empty this morning.

Getting ready for tomorrow, it's October time!

Thurs:
And it's here. Can you smell the pumpkin spice? Say happy anniversary to Tinker! Whoops, I thought it was Squeak. My bad. Ah well, they got the same food and catnip and everything soooooooo....

Was fairly busy at work, with getting the latest voice system up and running so I went over those bugs. There are still some issues to iron out of course but maybe in another month we'll have it all set. Had the morning meeting.

Looked into the other machines running the copy app. None have the issue the 6655 machine does with the auto color, so that's a relief. None of the physical buttons work though, so that's a bit of a downer.

Had the afternoon meeting, watered the plants. (there were still fewer of them this week) not many more people though, but a few more than usual. Still fairly empty parking lot though.

Went to set up the backup, and answer her questions about things. She gave me their old router, they got one from Spectrum. It's a fairly nice one, but she was saying it kept wanting them to buy something? Huh? It's a router, lady, it doesn't "want" anything. Especially for you to buy anything. I'll probably hook it up here, I'm not sure though. Mine seems fine. But I can't really sell it to anyone, can I? I mean I could.

Came back here, checked sites. One call, an old neighbor having iPad trouble after an upgrade. She says she lost things but who knows. Then someone else called about a Win 10 machine and she says it just went into power saver and then gave her a message about a win10 upgrade not completing but that doesn't really add up. So both of those Saturday and looking forward to both. (NOT)

Got in the PCL filament I ordered that's totally ABS filament. Wait, what? I ordered ABS filament, why does the sticker say "flexible PCL Filament?" Sigh. From what I can tell it's just a different kind of plastic that doesn't take as much heat to melt, so in theory turning the temp down on the extruder should allow it to work fine. I wonder. There's no way for me to ask the actual place that sent it to me (I got it from Amazon but it was shipped from some other place) what to do about it. I could just return it and say "I wanted ABS this is PCL they're different things" but given how hard it was to find this in the first place, I'm not sure I want to take the chance of not getting any. I guess I'll try it and see what happens. What's the worst that could happen?

So let's talk future. Candy day is in 4 weeks. Do you have your candy yet? Candy candy candy candy. But that's too far in the future. Let's talk tomorrow. More of the same I expect, not much more of the voice system to go over though maybe a new copy app? So probably another card machine, we'll see what Christina got through. Though really 3 machines apiece is more than fair.

Seeing my parents, getting gas as I'll be running around the weekend. Get my hair cut.

We'll do "possibly a short" game according to Sean as he's been busy grading and not coming up with plot. Nothing Saturday. It's the off week, even though last week became an off week.

Saturday two jobs and probably having my parents over. Nothing planned for Sunday, maybe figuring out how the crew beats up the murder bots on top of the alien spaceship to set up the mass driver that will hopefully bring the ship down. You know, standard stuff. Finishing off that pie, that sort of thing.

So we're in the home stretch now, in more than one way. This month is Tinker 2012, Sean's Birthday, Oliver 2016, and I'll have been at Xerox for 5 whole years. That's twice my previous record! Let's go for 5 more shall we?

See you all next week.
