2020-08-27:
Fri:
Made test cases, going to be a long slog I can tell you that. As we're
changing the way we work with cards, and there's 6 types of cards, I get to
test that all the cards work or don't work as they're supposed to depending
on the menu item chosen. That's the equivalent of hundreds of test cases.
Neat.
Not much else.
Usual stuff after that, getting the groceries, seeing my parents. I may be
taking Miss Jenny if they decide to go to Penn. so that I can make sure she
only eats her special food. We'll see what they decide. Then put stuff away
at home and then gears as Jon was not available for game.
Sat:
Cleaned, my parents were coming over after all.
Bought 2 mutual funds as the money I had requested go into the account was
in the account. Remind me again why that takes three days? Oh, right, so
that the banks can use my money interest free for that time. Gotcha. So
silly of me.
Checked my sites.
Called lady - went down there. No PS/2 port but I left her a USB keyboard as
well as her wireless keyboard. Spoiler: The wireless one still messed up,
the wired one was still working. Very strange.
One final sanding of Neil's gift, now to get something to put it in and
he'll be done. Should I find some kind of display case for it? Eh, I guess
not though something lit from behind or below would look best, you really
need light to shine through them to really appricate them.
Put the Pyre books on the site, figured I wouldn't really sell them anyway.
Made each one into an ebook and put them up there. My Mac version is pretty
much out of date so I tried the PC version. It's crap. So slow, how can my
purpose built PC, made with the fastest SSD and such I could buy at the time
be so sluggish just modifying some text? I almost went back to the Mac
version, outdated as it was. Not fun.
Reading.
Parents came over for a movie. We should have jet-packs by now!
Sun:
Cleanup driveway after my parents took the sticks away. Lots of dirt and
leaves left, all cleaned up now.
Moved a few more trees- now 29 trees out there. I think I can get one more
out there next week, then it's basically full.
Reading- lots of reading for 6 hours while the base of Mizzy's gift printed.
Looks much better than the clay one did, even if it's still just a touch too
small. Eh, no one but me would even know. Put the glue on it to put the two
halves together, dripped a little hot clue on my finger and burned it.
Didn't know how else to hold it in place while the glue cured. Oh well, it's
fine. Next week we'll pour the resin and that will pretty much finish off my
friend's gifts for this year. I got Sean's in the mail a week or two ago,
Neil is basically done, and now this. Very satisfying.
Got everything on the list for this weekend done with time to spare. Neat.
Mon:
Did some work in the morning, printed and scanned some pages without so much
as a thank you. You're welcome anyway Don.
Had to mess with the cloud server, couldn't get it to print as it was,
thanks Christina. (She's out this week so I couldn't ask her what she had
last done). They want to use it for a demo tomorrow so they get to figure
out what's going on with it. Suckers.
Installed a new server build of the voice system. Hopefully when the machine
does an automatic update I won't lose all the data and have to put the
smartbox in there again. They finally took the files out of the system32
folder, a really stupid place to put anything in my opinion. It went in fine
so cross your fingers. (If you care, which you don't? Okay, that's fair)
Took delivery of the new voice system box. Pretty neat looking, I'll hook it
up tomorrow. Big. Where are they going to put it on the printer? Ah well,
not my problem.
And that was about it. Nothing else new.
Came back home, checked sites, guy came with the laptop so I knew which LCD
to order. Ordered it. Hopefully I can get it out okay, it's sort of stuck in
there with adhesive, a great move on HP's part. I hate changing LCDs, I
really do. But yet here I am, ordering another one. Hopefully it goes back
together okay.
Did some reading.
Made calls, 45 minutes to delete a directory to upgrade libre. I hate
windows so much. It's like, oh, you don't have permission to do that. Okay,
so give me permission to do that. Oh, you don't have permission to do that.
WHA? I rebooted and the folder was gone, so I guess it was just a phantom?
How do bugs like this persist, MS? Can you tell me? Can you?
Tues:
Had actual work today! I know, it's so weird to have work to do at work.
Upgraded to the latest D5.4 build to see if the features I'm looking for
were in there. One of them was, not the one that would take five minutes of
course. That one still is not in. Yay.
But with that and the new build of D4.0 I was able to do exactly half of the
new decryption test. I don't have the certs that I need (certs again!!!!)
because Christina got them but they were not forwarded to me. So I asked for
them directly. And why it accepted the print job when the cert wasn't there,
making me believe it shouldn't have printed. No answer on that one.
I did make sure the card was still in there, on two machines upgraded in
different ways, so at least we went from 14 total tasks to 13. That's
something, right?
Also hooked up the gabi box, it's really loud and 1% volume is the same as
100% volume. Neat. But I'm ready for the new version of that we'll get
tomorrow.
Sheesh, make me do everything at once, why don't you? It's been weeks you
know, we couldn't have, I don't know, spread it out a little bit more?
Came back here, no calls today, thank you very much. Checked sites, did some
reading.
Got ready for bed and did some gears with the crew. Well, we tried to
anyway. There was a 2.6 GB update and after it, Sean and I connected fine
but Neil's game kept crashing. Neat. So that was a bust.
Wed:
More real work done today! Had the gabi meeting and was quite excited. After
a month or more of no updates I was sure the list would be long of things
they had fixed.
I was disappoint.
There were like four things. And one of the things didn't even work. I was
like, well, I'll look at the four things, I guess? At least all my login
methods worked, so that's a plus. It's hard to play around with it because
every time I log off it acts like it loses the whole thing, warns me about a
*gurrr* certificate and then makes me punch in the IP address for the box
again. Very annoying. So I didn't really dig into it to see how many other
problems there were.
Thought about what the sprites want from Lysanias.
Put a card reader on a machine for celiveo, and as that lab only has one of
a certain type of machine but we have plenty I offered to wheel
one down there so we can finally, finally, finally,
put
this whole celiveo thing to rest once and for all. It would have been
another week otherwise. So it was in my own best interest.
Got it set up and cloned, should be ready to go. Please work so I don't have
this hanging over me anymore. K tkns bye
Came back here, was expecting 91 outside because that's what my little
weather dodad said, but it was more like 70 and cloudy. I wonder if
upgrading it whacked my setting? I'll have to look into that, maybe I was
getting another state's forecast?
Three calls, one lady I helped by having her hold her power button down.
Dentist guy who seems to be going downhill a bit but wants more emails moved
around and another laptop doesn't he have like three of them?
Didn't reach keyboard lady from down the street and didn't reach the guy who
wants a battery.
Got ready for tomorrow, wanted to try Gears again tonight. It worked! Hazza.
Got though the red sand area and to the final area of the game.
Thurs:
Had a bunch of tasks put in so that kept me busy today. Checked out a card
reader on a system I had already done so on, a few months ago, because I
love redoing work I've already done. (Everyone knows this about me)
Then had the morning meeting. It went overtime we haven't really decided on
how we're going to present the new card options so that's a thing. Hope they
haven't started coding it yet.
Then did the tasks. Set up and hooked up two different card readers to a
primelink machine, not something we normally work on. But that was the
request. Have to do the same thing to a C70 but ours is signed out until the
1st of next month so he'll have to wait on that one.
Did some writing, I know what the sprites want now, and what Lysanias is
going to do and not going to do about it. Because I remembered that writing
a superman story is about what superman won't do not about what
he can do.
Had the afternoon meeting, and watered the plants. Some people said it was
raining hard where they were, but it was still sunny when I left for home.
Rained a bit later on, but not much.
Called keyboard lady, no answer.
Came back home, did the usual stuff to get ready for tomorrow. No calls,
then I got a call that was just a question. Called keyboard lady again, no
answer.
So what's in the future for little old me? Have to get some driveway crack
filler for labor day, that will be Saturday. Have to finish Mizzy's gift.
We're doing both Friday and Saturday games this week so no movie with parents.
All the trees that I moved last week survived so don't need to replace any.
Nothing else really planned. Won't have to wash the deck until next week.
Maybe keyboard lady? No other real plans I guess, let's hope it stays that
way and I can, do some reading, or something, I guess? I'll need another
project!
See you next week, in September. Why do I here a faint set of jingling
bells???
