2020-08-20:
Fri:
Got in the new versalink software that I fought with all day. If it wasn't
the server being stupid it was the release, is it even working?
I don't think it is. It's not simultaneous, that's for sure. The whole point
of this feature is to release jobs, and they process all at the same time.
But as far as I can tell, it's still basically just one at a time. Not only
that, I release 10 one page jobs and get 2 of them. That's not right.
Saw my parents. Jenny is still good but other cats may not be.
Came back, helped defend the party because the plan I made when right out
the window immediately which honestly shouldn't be a surprise. We
got the knife, and only two people died. Whoops. I mean one
probably would have anyway but the other wouldn't have had the plan actually
be followed.
Sat:
Got right into it, as I was up fairly early. Had trouble getting to sleep
last night.
Made muffins.
Moved another 3 trees, getting pretty full back there so I doubt many more
will be moved. Assuming the 3 survive.
Worked on the journal entry for the game.
Did the paperwork for last month.
Looked over finances as I got $3,450 back from streetshares as they don't
operate in my area anymore? Okay. Need to find a place to invest that, and
the money I've had coming in as I haven't done anything investment wise for
some time. Maybe it didn't seem worth it? Hard to say. The Cds I have are
not worth it. The 60 month one that has $5000 in it will make me $500 if I'm
lucky. So half a paycheck in 5 years? Yeah, makes me want to get more of
them. But you can lose everything in the stock market maybe I'll just invest
it in tomatoes or something.
Ate lunch! Always a highlight of any day.
Started the print of Mizzy's gift, while that was cranking away I did the
dishes.
(I forgot the controlling program had to be front and center to work. Yeah,
you do anything else, even typing this, and it stops going. I knew there was
a reason I didn't like doing it. Got the first half done, not sure I'm
completely happy with it. We'll see.
Cleaned off a shelf, put some DVDS into the cabinet I picked up from the
curb a month or two ago, and put some stuff out from a drawer. Now I have an
empty drawer, how in the heck did that happen? A whole empty drawer. I'm
sure I'll fill it soon enough with some junk or another.
Went through and cleaned up my movie collection a bit while waiting for 4:00
to do game. We didn't quite get through it, at least I was able to show up
at last. Mizzy immediately insulted me when I showed up so I guess that's
par for the course. We had to stop at 9:00 because Neil had to do something
else. Strange how I was much more into the story last week when I wasn't
even involved at all. Weird how that happens, isn't it? Won't be until the
29th we do that game again.
Sun:
Vacuumed the floor and the stairs, both really needed it. Haven't done the
stairs in some time, they look a better.
Made my monthly pie. Had some of it.
Checked sites.
Totally redid Mizzy's gift, at least half of it before lunch. I have a 9"
print bed, and I wanted the shape to be exactly 9 inches. Seems obvious,
right? Not so much. Somehow I didn't scale it to be the whole thing so it
was only 7". What was past me thinking? Also the slicing didn't work out
quite as I intended, the shapes overlapped and it didn't like that very
much. I redid the SVC file to make it all one shape, then had to do the
faces between vertices manually. I mean it's pretty complex, I can't fault
Blender for not knowing which should have faces and which shouldn't. It
would be cool if it could sort of ask, "hey, is this shape filled in or
not?" and show both filled and not and you can select it. But alas, that is
not in the cards as of yet.
Had lunch.
Watched both terminator movies. I guess we're safe, the date of nuclear war
has totally passed us by. By quite a bit actually. I could still use a
little more AI in my life though, the non-murderous kind if possible?
Someone get on that.
Finished the other half of Mizzy's gift, modeling it I mean. I'll print it
next week I guess. At the correct size, this time, no?
Got ready for tomorrow, the usual Sunday stuff. Didn't need to water
anybody, it was a fall day out there. Nasty, cold, and raining. Is summer
over already? It wont' be into the 80s again until Friday according to what
I'm seeing now. Still, a cooler labor day would be nice for working outside.
Calls- 4. A .net issue for the camera? Doesn't seem possible but that's what
happened. He can't install updates, because Windows, and of course there's
very limited error messaging around it. I mean it must fail for some reason,
right? So just tell us what that reason is! But no. Signs pointed to .Net
(yay) so I removed it and reloaded it. The install still didn't go through
but when I tried the camera again it worked? What? The? Heck? Windows, you
suck. Another hour down the drain for some arbitrary nonsense.
One person rebooted their router on their own. That's what I like to hear.
Going over to a place tomorrow at 6:00. They can get on wireless on only 1
of 3 devices according to them. Odd.
And didn't reach the lady down by the bay with the keyboard issue. I'll try
her when I leave work, bring over another one for her to see if that helps.
Should narrow it down to her PC or the receiver I guess?
Mon:
Another week begins. Installed the cheep, tiny, SSD into the lab PC as I use
it occasionally and as it's only a Core2 Duo it needs all the help it can
get. My small contribution to the company as they can have it, and my sanity
because really? A core2 duo with spinning drive? Are you trying to make me
tear my hair out?
Then went back to submitting jobs and trying the release on a third model.
Had to submit again because they only last for so long, even after you're
gone. I know you love me, and soon, I know you will see, you were meant for
me, and I was... Wait, sorry, that one got away from me. Anyway, results are
the same on that model, and Christina said she tried it on another model and
it was basically doing the same thing. So It's fairly obvious no further
testing is required for this build.
So I stopped.
Made an appointment to have my gas lines checked, as that's apparently a
thing. Early September, I'll have to be home at 3:00 which is fine.
Had a meeting with some upper management person along with the rest of the
team. He was just talking about the business and answering questions, that
sort of thing. I want to work on the 3D printer project, how do I get over
there? And how much "testing" do you need done?
Called keyboard lady, no answer. Came back here, ate dinner.
Went out to see the lady about her devices which were online just fine, and
she said she had put her password in because her actual problem was getting
email but I did it, and it was fine. We also renewed some kind of travel
card for a hundred bucks. Sure.
Came back here, got ready for tomorrow in time for the late night activities
with the others.
Which didn't happen as planned. Apparently the responsible human beings, the
ones that actually reproduced, were up later with him than usual and then
went to bed. It was no problem, we played more Gears and got past the ice
world, beating the annoying boss.
Tues:
Boring. Nothing new to test yet.
Had the meeting, that was the high point of the day.
Called keyboard lady, still no answer, came home.
Sites, ate dinner.
York called, that's Thursday something about sending email. Like I can do
anything about that.
Still no answer from keyboard lady.
Called Ellen back, no answer. Emailed her the answer instead.
Keyboard lady called at 8:45, so I'm going over there after I see the people
down the street from work.
Wed:
Still not much to do at work. Had a meeting with the voice people, they
aren't ready to give me anything so news there. They are ready to send the
new hardware so I'll get that in a few days.
Oh, I did load the latest D5.4 and checked if the two new features were in
there yet. They were not. So news there either.
Went to my after work job, her HD was just dead. As in, plugging it into
another PC with my adapter didn't even make it beep. So it didn't even
notice something was plugged in. So I brought that back to replace it. Thank
goodness past me got those SSDs in a few days ago.
Then dropped off the keyboard, and again unplugging the little transmitter
didn't even make the machine beep or change the device list so I think
that's pretty much gone. Thought the logitech stuff with the little star was
universal but had to use my keyboard. Oh well, what else was I going to do
with it?
Came back here, installed the SSD and windows. Checked sites, dinner, the
usual.
Two calls, Randy with a monitor problem, so I gave him some leads on a new
one (I only have a 13" and one that's got a big scratch on it) and someone
with a laptop LCD I really don't want to replace. He's a half an hour away,
that means driving an hour to pick it up. Cracking it open to get the exact
part number so I don't order the "wrong" one because the manufacturer used
2-3 different models in one model of laptop. Getting it. And driving another
hour there and back to return it. That's two days gone for $50.00. Not worth
it. No answer though so we'll see what he comes back with after hearing my
message outlining all this.
And tried Ellen again, no answer.
Thurs:
Not much to talk about at work today either, but there was the usual two
meetings. One piece of news I got was that two of the features in D5.4
should have gone in today so I'll be sure and check them out tomorrow. I
would love to get them off the list as you can imagine. So that's my task
for tomorrow morning.
Watered the plants, there were a few more people there than usual. *hissing
sound*
Let's see, I can cross the new card reader plugin test off the list so
hopefully by this time next week at least 3 will be in the done category. I
also got some specs for the new card feature of letting a class of cards
work without adding them to the .xml file so I'll be looking them over to
make test cases in the coming few days. Probably tomorrow, the D5.4 stuff
shouldn't take me too long, I think.
Of course now it'll go horribly because that's how the universe works.
Dropped off the laptop and went over to York. Couldn't demonstrate the
problem, her email was working just fine. It actually shouldn't have been,
the frontier page says ssl needs to be on, but it actually didn't work
with the settings they recommend. Huh? It worked with SSL off. Weird. I did
answer a few general questions and left again.
At home I got my application for voting by mail, and Trumps' scowl deepened
another millimeter. It's nice, it's all filled out all I have to do is check
the box, sign it, and put it in the conveniently included envelope. Which
makes me wonder why they bothered. It would have saved them 2/3 of the cost
of mailing the ballot if they had just, you know, mailed me the
ballot. I mean, they are presumably sending an application to every
registered voter, no? So that envelope could have been the ballot. "If you
want to vote my mail, send this back. Otherwise destroy it." sort of thing.
Now they have to get my response, process it, print a ballot, send it, then
process my response again. Presumably all postage paid as this was. It's so
weird. Why can't I just vote online? It's 2020 not 1820.
Come on! I live in the future. Figure it out.
Anyflay, gonna send it back and vote by mail. So congratulations, Drumf,
you've managed to get even this guy to vote, and he's
going to do it in the way that pisses you off the most. (Still think it's
pointless though, see 2016 election for proof)
Now we come to the forward looking time of the entry. What's in your wallet?
future?
Get to do some actual work tomorrow, then do the shopping and see my
parents. I opened the latest boxes of cat food so I'll need to go there but
not quite yet, I think. No game, Jon is not available, so I think we're going
to do more Gears instead.
Then the weekend, I want to print Mizzy's base again, as I hopefully have it
right this time. I don't know about moving more trees, I guess we'll see.
Have my parents over for a movie as there's no iron man game until the 29th.
And that's really the only plan so far. Maybe go down to see keyboard lady
as she said the keyboard I gave her isn't working out either. *crap*
Otherwise, nothing big planned.
That will about do it. Hopefully some more war stories to tell next week,
instead of "nothing to report" the whole time. Christina is going to be out
so it'll just be little old me there. I'll be getting the final version of
the encryption project, the D5.4 stuff, maybe a new gabi box and software,
so it should be fairly busy. I guess we'll see.
See you then.
