2020-07-02:
Fri:
Finished up the scan to home tests. Nothing really big jumped out, so unless
and until they decide to fix anything I've found we should be all set with
that for the time being.
Wrote some test cases for some upcoming tests. Minor stuff, I think the one
has like 5 tests in it? Pretty simple stuff.
And failed installing/running the hand wash thing. Yup, Louis emailed me,
probably all excited, that the official app was up on the official site
ready to download. You know, before the final version had been tested or
anything. Sure, that's the way to do it. Installed it on one machine and it
didn't work. I installde it on another machine. It didn't work. "That's a
problem" I thought to myself. We did a few things to try and narrow down
what it was, and loading what should be the identical thing via USB works.
It's just downloading it from the official site that doesn't work. Sigh. The
guy that wrote it is going to look into it.
Gas. Parents. Guy cut himself getting a old grill into his trunk. Hope he's
okay, he was bleeding a bit.
Came home, put stuff away and checked sites before the game. I actually did
a bit of magic this time, protection for the win. Good thing we had the
exact orbs we needed to get through the secret entrance and into the lab we
discovered behind a false wall we discovered because a fireball spell went
wide. Now I just have to do a ton of magic to get myself down there.
Sat:
Worked on a different resin gift I had the idea for. It didn't work out
exactly at first, what does, but I went a different way and it may turn out
okay. That stuff gets hot! I was doing it outside into a metal pan, where
usually I use the silicon mold, and the pan was really heating up. It
solidified in record time, like minutes, not hours. Made it a little tricky
to work with, and I of course should have done one thing about it
differently.
Did the usual cleaning.
Finished up the refurb PC so it's ready to go should someone request it.
Took the "fake" laptop PC apart so I could give the metal to dad.
Reprinted 3 of the plastic bits I printed, to try and get better results
than the three I have.
Did more pour - it came out pretty dark but acceptable I think. Not as
cloudy as the first one.
Played a game from my collection of games from the bundle I got.
Parents over, we watched a disney movie my mother wanted to see that I had
found the day before. Easy.
Sun:
Did the next pour. Of course there's a divot, despite my socking more stuff
in there for like an hour and a half. I figured it was set up enough and
dumped the extra. But no, it made a mockery of me again. I mixed up a tiny
bit and poured it into the divots of the three that have them. I wonder if
so little an amount will actually harden?
Got the other gift out, looks pretty good, started standing it because there
was a lot of rust sticking to it. (don't ask) I think it will work out. I
mean it's a little off center but I think when it's shined up it'll be fine.
I wonder if I could cut it just a little? Hummmm.
Cut the lawn. The grass wasn't that long, but I did have a few pretty yellow
flowers.
Because having a flat green is somehow better than pretty yellow
flowers. I mean look at this, why do I have to cut this pretty yellow flower
down?
Worked on the character for the new game for a bit, though I don't exactly
know how much stuff Sean is going to let me have to start with. Eh, I'll
have a shotgun, that's all I really need right?
More game. Well written, I'm enjoying it. More than I thought I would.
Usual Sunday stuff, getting ready for work and all that.
Mon:
I expected to hear from the hand wash guy, but nothing. Does he really not
know why it doesn't work? Huh.
Worked on the voice system most of the day. Wrote up a few things I noticed,
a lot of the old bugs are still there. But at least she's not interrupting
me like she was, and the workflow is a little better. Maybe we will whip it
into shape.
The resin hadn't hardened yet, it was still sticky when I poked it with the
toothpick. I hope it hardens more, it's only been a day and maybe that
little needs closer to the 72 hours than the 24. Nothing to do now but let
it sit and hope for the best.
Went to buy wax after work, to shine up the ones that are done. Didn't help
as much as I hoped, honestly. Did I not sand them enough? Are they just
cloudy because reasons? And the spots I put on aren't hardened. Sigh.
Checked sites and the usual when I got home.
More of the game.
Then got ready for bed so I would be ready at 8:30 to do something with the
others.
Tues:
Somewhat boring today, I fear. Just messing around with the voice stuff.
Discovered I had a space in my ldap query so at least I didn't tell them
something that wasn't true. I found it was in the spreadsheet, and I just
copy it out, so I fixed that so it wouldn't be a problem anymore.
Oh, and the handwash app mysteriously started working. Loaded that on just
about every machine in the lab, it seems perfect now. What happened last
week? So weird. Emailed Louis about it, but he didn't get back to me.
Stopped at the guy down the street, no big deal.
Came back here, did the usual stuff and got ready for tomorrow. Thought I
would play Gears but spent an hour on the phone trying to get the security
system to work. The stupid active-x, IE only, stupid, never going to touch
another, security system. Nope. Samsung's website doesn't even show it
exists, the only manual I can find is on one of those "manual" sites that
breaks it up into 200 pages rather than letting you just download a PDF.
Manual says it supports smartviewer, okay, where do I download it from? The
one I found didn't have it in the list. I hate those stupid security
systems. Who thought tying it to IE would be a good idea? I mean every
system I've ever worked on that's the only thing that'll work with it. Oh,
Safari would work, if you installed silverlight. Yeah, what's that
you ask? I don't blame you, it's also been dead for years. Another wonderful
MS technology, like their phones or XPS, another thing you've never heard
of. As one website put it "Once regarded as a possible "PDF killer," the XPS
file format now lives on in Windows seemingly out of sheer inertia. The
average person should stay away from XPS files and use PDF files instead."
But I've gotten off track.
The point is, every security system creater made a horrible choice, and they
should all feel bad. Do they still require IE? Her system was like 8 years
old as far as I could see, hopefully they've come to their senses by now?
Sean went for a bike ride because he got tired of waiting for me. Sorry.
Did more sanding of the gift.
Wed:
Even more of the same.
Wrote up a few things, scraping the barrel? Like if I say "send a fax single
sided with keyboard" instead of "send a fax with keyboard single sided" the
voice system just hangs up. Great. You are told you can log in if there's a
fault like an open door but you actually can't, and telling it auto size
tells me it only supports "auto" so they must be setting it to "automatic"
or something. Despite it being auto if you don't tell it anything, so how
they screwed that up I can't imagine.
Little more work on the dwarf guy. Not that I've heard back from Sean about
what I wanted from him... Guess we'll just play it by ear. If he starts with
no active magical objects, well, he has a shotgun, armor, and a shield as
they don't cost "points" and really, what else does anyone need to have an
adventure?
Making a delivery tomorrow of the celiveo units, so maybe we can finally get
to the bottom of this "can't install" business and I can finally take that
off the list from months ago.
Meetings and plant watering too. Not really sure what else, to be honest.
Set up the pc, it had an M.2 ssd drive? Not an SSD posing as a laptop HD?
Wow, you didn't get a sucky machine. I'm somewhat impressed. Of course I'm
sure he paid more than he would have with me finding him a refurb unit but
whatever. His machine actually BSOD while I was taking out the two different
antivirus products on it. I had set the permissions to everyone so I could
get at the files, I was just waiting for it to finish so I could turn it
off. But still. It was a crappy vista machine, good riddance.
Came back, sites, dinner, ready for tomorrow, no calls, so early playing
with the crew. We just managed to finish gears 5, and it looks like they're
planning a gears 6 so their war continues. That will be the 7th gears game.
Sheesh. Move on already, am I right?
Thurs:
Quite boring today, work was handily avoided.
I did deliver the unit so hopefully we can get that straightened out at
last.
And I helped set up another machine with the voice system, tied it to mine
which hopefully will be fine in the short term. He just wants to log in
apparently, so that's fine. Hopefully his test won't take long.
Didn't have the Joe meeting, it never seemed to be active but I got a
minutes like it actually went on? So I don't know what that's about.
We also had the usual Thurs meeting, nothing new there. And watered the
plants.
Went shopping. Decided to head to the nearest Aldi to see if it was open
yet. It is! It's become the other one, very similar layout. Found everything
again. And here's an amusing anecdote for you. The cute cashier was there,
the one that always talks to me about cats, but she was in another row.
Figuring it was nice just to see she was doing okay I figured that would be
that. But then she switched rows to my row, so I got to talk to her after
all. When I got out to the car I thought, for reasons, that I would use my
handy dandy wrist unit to see what my heartbeat speed was. Usually, when I
take it after lunch, it's in the lows 70s, averaging about 75 as I look at
the chart. It was 107. You think I might suffer from a tiny bit of social
anxiety? Just a bit? It's possible.
Got back here, checked sites and did the usual stuff while I ate dinner.
So let's look to tomorrow. No work, but I have some berries to pick, yes a
few are out there, so I'll grab them. Make the last of Neil's gift or at
least start on it. See my parents. No game, Jon is not available. And I
still don't know about the Saturday game. Make ice cream, I only did that
once last year, silly.
Made my calls, no jobs as of yet so hopefully fairly quiet. Over the weekend
I'll cut the lawn, otherwise hopefully just a relaxing holiday weekend. If
no Saturday game I'll go to my sister's house for dinner.
So that's it. The year is half over. Not that 2021 will magically fix
everything but maybe it'll fix one thing. You know what I'm talking about.
You know.
See you next time, and have a good weekend everyone.
