Fri:
Spent most of the day doing the new screensaver. The weirdo primelink seems
to work a bit differently from the others I tested, but it's not really
broken in such a way that it would need more work. I had the guy load it on
one of the tiny machines in "my" lab and it just displays a black screen. I
guess it too knows that #blacklivesmatter. He said he would look into it.
He did get it to work fine, wonder what he did? I made a few notes, we'll
see what Louis says.
Cleaned up the lab a bit, found some artwork I put on the walls. It was all
wrapped in bubble wrap and shoved between the wall and a mostly empty
cabinet full of old CDs. Where did it come from? It must have been there for
years. Well, the place is 20% classier now.
No news on the new scan to home app, but I did start the process for a new
server to put it on. Because we need another virtual machine to baby.
Got gas on the way to my parent's house, saw the new driveway. And Gabe. And
meowy Jenny. So all was fine over there.
Did the game, and did nothing. The game would have proceeded
exactly as it did with or without me. Neat.
The others slaughtered their way though about a dozen kobolds. Somehow.
Without a scratch. Wha?
Who needs protection magic, I guess?
Sat:
Got a few things done during the course of the day.
Glueed my sword back together. The model I made for the failed attempt at
making a sword of omens. I really should have 3D printed it with a grove on
the inside, and put a rod in there to hold it together better. If I had to
do it again I would do it that way. Oh well, not going to happen. It just
gets more and more beat up.
Vacuumed the breezeway, or should I say the annual cleaning of the
breezeway? It was pretty bad, but it's fairly good now! Catnip is coming
along, maybe next week I'll plant it, and hope for the best.
1 job, no real trouble. Mbam found nothing and her printer had already been
done fine so... Called Boris, about 4 times, he kept either hanging up on me
without saying anything or has deteriorated to the point he no longer knows
how to work a phone. So I figured I would try back after lunch?
I did, same result. I guess he's there but I'm still not just
going there without talking to the man. But every time the ringing would
stop, he wouldn't say anything, and we would be disconnected. You would
think after the phone ringing two or three times you would get the message
that someone was trying to call you.
Cleaning, not that it needed that much, I'm a very clean person after all.
Put in newegg order - power supply to replace the one I just sold, and forms
not that I'll need them for like another two months at this rate but I
noticed I had less than half a package left so figured I would replace them.
Got the parts to make Neil's gift. Forgot how long resin takes to cure. It's
going to be 2 weeks at the earliest before it's done. Well, not like I don't
have the time. Painted what I had 3D printed before at least. Watched a
movie while I did it. Oddly, the resin seems to harden up faster than what
the package says, at least enough to remove from the mold. The first one
came out... Hummmm... More on that tomorrow.
Tried to do the new takedown, didn't get halfway through. It's tough. Then
switched over to Gears and despite this being the 5th game in the series,
was forced to go through a tutorial. And it hadn't actually installed for
Mizzy so we didn't get to actually do the game anyway.
So we switched over to Warhammer and have to go through several missions in
that before we can do multi-player. Aarg! What are you doing, video game
companies?
Sun:
Did the lawn pretty much first thing.
Back to Neil's gift- it came out "okay" there's a flaw at the top because
some of the fluid leaked into the outer edge of the thing. So while I filled
it full it ended up not being full, so there's a hole there. Not sure how
I'm going to stop that so I mixed up another batch of the stuff to try and
fill it in. I stuck the thing upside down into the mold, hopefully that'll
work. It's only 1/4 oz of each bottle so it's not a lot but I still hate to
waste it.
It worked fairly well, the edge has sanded pretty smooth, but it's not
perfect. My next plan is to fill the top up only halfway, let that harden,
and then pour some more on the top. That way if it leaks out the middle it's
fine, I just pour more in to finish it up. I mean it's the same basic
concept as what I just did, except I won't take the mold apart until it's
done, and I'll mix a little less for the second/third pour because I know
some will leak and I don't want it all the way full. That should make it
look a bit better. I mean if there's an "outy" at the top I can always sand
that down far easier than trying to fill in an "inney." Started the second
one so we'll see how it goes.
Ordered sandpaper so I can really shine it up according to the youtube video
I watched.
Watched a movie.
Played some warhammer, got to the point where I can do multi-player at
least. Had to do 5 missions, not 3, so we didn't have time Saturday.
Did the usual Sunday stuff, getting ready for tomorrow and all that. Back to
work, happy happy. Hope the second pour works out, hard to tell as I can't
open it. At least this plan seems to be working out. Wonder if I could make
some kind of lit display case, really show these off? Humm.
Mon:
Looked at the hand wash app, it had been updated so at least on 3/4 machines
it looked fine. Apart from an odd border on three sides and not 4. Odd. The
little machine is back to a black screen so something is going on there!
He fixed it, and no more weird border either.
I tell ya, everything happens at once. We couldn't have had the hand washing
thing last week, when I had nothing to do? But no, now I have that, the scan
to home server got set up so I had to install the server part, some code got
into D5.4 I wanted to test. The developer wants to test a new patch for USDA
and wanted me to wipe and reload the machine beforehand. Give me a break!
Seriously, break it up over time, I don't need to have nothing then
everything in one day.
So yeah, all that happened.
Did the rest of the pour, hope it works out.
Checked sites, no videos today? Slow day.
Half and hour on the phone with a guy - router? Modem? Who knows?! At least
after he moved stuff around he started getting on the internet again. Let's
hope it continues.
A few minutes with a lady who had something stuck in her outbox and thought
mail wasn't being sent. Pretty sure it was.
And I didn't reach someone because all circuits were busy.
Got ready for bed in case we did games tonight. We did not! I watched a
movie.
Tues:
As all things happen at once they continued to happen at once. I took the
day to try and finish the handwash app, which I stayed a little late for and
pretty much did. 16 machines checked. Good thing it's a short test. Still.
One machine did not have it so that can probably be done tomorrow. As well
as all that I checked the USDA patch, the new combined one with the old
patch stuff in it. Worked fine, but now I'm stuck without the screen I'm
supposed to see. Quite odd. They're looking into it. Having reloaded the
machine I used yesterday I did a little bit more with the blackboard card
reader, and surprisingly it was fine. No issues like yesterday. I retracted
the bug I wrote. Sigh. Oh, and I had to make changes to the test server we
created for the other team to test the scan to home app as they wrote it.
Apparently there are NTFS permissions and share permissions. Because of
course there are. The guy emailed me "now if all went well these two things
should be the same." Nope. LOL. Wait, that just means more work for me.
*sigh*
So tomorrow I have two old bugs to look at that people want me to try and
recreate.
I have to finish the handwash app test and possibly look at any fixes he
makes due to my findings.
I need to divvy up the scan to home app across basically the same number of
machines I just tested to Christina and myself and start my testing of that.
Check and see if any more D5.4 stuff was put in.
Figure out what guy is going to tell me to do for whatever weird scan to
home weirdness he's trying to test.
So that should take the morning, wonder what I'll do for the afternoon?
Came back, the second gift item came out pretty good. It won't need as much
work I think so this idea of mine seems to be playing out well.
Started the 3rd pour.
Checked sites, videos, got ready for tomorrow. The email lady from yesterday
called back.
Then got ready for bed so I could do games with Sean/Mizzy.
The new takedown is pretty hard!
Wed:
Did a lot of the things I needed to do.
Wanted to get the D5.4 stuff out of the way so I started with that. The
cards I needed to test actually worked, so that was a nice surprise. Well,
worked mostly. Despite recently reloading the machine back to defaults it
didn't want to scan to home. It was giving me an error. I checked and
rechecked the settings, finally I threw a clone file at it that I made in
February. That fixed it. Wha? Doesn't even make sense.
Proved the job release bug still existed in D2.9. Had to load the latest
release as the developer said it was fixed there. Nope!
Had a meeting with Louis about the handwashing app. Instead of my lunch
time, thanks a lot. Took a half hour, but fine, whatever. He's not too
concerned with what I found so I guess we're near the end of that little
adventure.
Checked more machines on that. I didn't do the machines he originally loaded
it on, so I went back to them.
Tested the card which still doesn't let me do email signing. He had me run
some command which I think also failed so I hope he got something out of the
effort. I copied the result to him. He thinks it might be the card, but
really I tried two different cards so it's clearly not the card.
Then to the keyboard lady. It was working fine. I showed her the transmitter
and came home.
Back here, sites, movies, no calls.
Got ready for bed.
Did more borderlands and then a bit of Gears 5. We still have only made it
about half way though.
Thurs:
Started in with the new scan to home app, or at least tried to. I kept
getting interrupted by "what about this?" and "can you try this other
thing?" nonsense. Had the Joe meeting, no real big news anywhere which I
guess is fine. Had the weekly status meeting, and of course watered all the
plants.
The scan to home app didn't actually, uh, scan, when I ran it. Christina
showed me it worked on her machine, and as we all scan to the same place
using the same logins there shouldn't be any differences between machines.
Weird. Wrote several bugs, which they were very quick to come
with "oh, according to the spec..." and "oh, really the thing is..." and such.
Super.
Haven't heard a peep from the voice folks, hope they all didn't decide to
quit or something.
Got cat food and such, why are pet store shelves so bare? But they still
have little chickens 50% off! Still cute.
Then the shopping, which I actually remembered my list for! Nice.
Came back here, the third pour came out fine, why is there always a weird
divot at the top? Can't sand it out, it's a divot. Sigh. I pour enough that
it juuuust pops out the top and I can sand the extra but when I
do, there's a divot! Searches didn't lead to any solutions. It's odd.
Then did the usual stuff to get ready for tomorrow. It's Friday already,
this week has gone by super fast. Somehow.
One call, dentist guy with his stupid quickbooks some more. He wants Tuesday,
which is days away so that's fine.
Didn't reach him yet though.
So what's in the future? Tomorrow I'll be working more on the new scan to
home app. I don't know if the voice thing or the hand wash thing will come
in, but that's the biggest project at the moment. See my parents, and
hopefully do something in game this week. Or not, you know how it
goes.
I don't think the lawn will need cutting, and as of yet I don't have any
jobs for the weekend. I'll have my father over for dinner Saturday for
Father's day. I will plant my little sprouts, they look like they're doing
good! I even have unripe berries out there, so turn red soon! Or not, as
that means it's almost winter again. Huh. Otherwise not much planned. More
work on the gift of course. I did some more sanding while I was watching
videos, you can sand out the divot. It's not really a perfect orb anymore,
but then, it never was going to be. Sigh.
That's it for this week. Only a little bit more than a week left in June.
And then another day off from work. I'll take it.
See you all next time, stay safe out there.
