2020-05-07:
Fri:
Tearing through the testing again, so it's all good. Ran the one D5.4 test I
could run, the edge to edge fix, and threw in the white text fix as well
just for good measure. It didn't make the printer crash and burn so that's a
good sign. It looked identical to the previous results so I call it a win.
Then went on with the card test and the reader test. Having most of the
machines already set up for it so I only needed to upgrade helped me get
through 4 of the 6 models I plan on testing. I did one "different" machine,
a 25 instead of a 00 but whatever. I upgraded the other two I'll do monday.
Made Don a bunch of folders with weird permissions. Hopefully that's the end
of that for a while.
And at the every end of the day altbooted the one printer I had killed two
days ago to hopefully bring it back.
Left, went to the store, waved at the gas station as I went by, and saw my
parents.
Back here checked my sites, and we got through the next leg of the
adventure. They're back in space baby, on the road to saving some layenhopt.
Sat:
Sites, videos. Modified the svg so we didn't have to try tracking the paper
representation of the orbs. It was getting difficult because I don't
actually have anything that can mark on this page I printed. It's mostly
black toner so I would need some kind of white marker. I found my gold paint
pen some time ago but only in passing looking for something else. I didn't
want to tear the house apart looking for it again so I figured this was
easier.
Thought about Mother's Day.
The idea I had didn't pan out. Back to thinking.
Cleaned a bit, my parents are coming over for a movie but of course I would
have anyway. I mean of course I would have, it obvious isn't it?
Paperwork. Another 4 jobs! Nice. Actually 5, I still had the invoice from
delivering the system Thursday but I didn't get it until later. It can go in
next month.
Started watching pony episodes. I've had them to watch since 2018 so I
figure it's about time to finish that up.
Parents came, we watched a movie.
Sun:
Fairly boring to write about, I just finished up all zillion episodes of
ponies. I have some special holiday one to watch that I missed that I found
when I was moving them to their rightful place, but otherwise all 222
episodes across 9 seasons are watched. I'll miss you girls! Bring on G5
already!
Otherwise just did the Sunday stuff. Watered the plants, put the comics in
but I had to be careful that last shelf was a mishmash of random stuff. As I
was looking them over I realized I had put in some twice already! Silly.
Went and made sure they were only in once, then sorted out any I had already
done. So I only have a few more to go. Fianally back to regular books I
guess. I have over a thousand comics. I know, some comic people out there
are going "is that all?"
Not much else.
At least it was nice out.
Mon:
That didn't last long. Went back to being rainy and yucky, and there's a
freeze warning in effect for tonight. I brought in the little sprouts I took
from the pregnant plant at work so it didn't freeze.
Finished up the card tests at work. Then, and this is key, did other card
tests at work. I know! See, I was done with the first card tests, and
wondering what to do now and I updated some machines with what was the
latest current build to see if a sleep bug was fixed. It seemed to be, and
then Christina was "are you going to do the D4.0 tests I'm still doing this
other thing" and she figured we should do the tests again because it's a new
pre-release to fix the bug. So having nothing else to do I did the cards
test, the blackboard reader tests, and the edge to edge tests on both models
of Altalink.
And now I have nothing to do for tomorrow.
Well, that's tomorrow's problem.
Oh right, the amusing story continues. I had loaded 12120 build but the
official release was 12100 build. They rebuilt 121 twice, but then chose to
take the first one, not the last? That's weird. So I had to reload what I
had just reloaded with an ever so slightly older version which
was fine.
Came back here, looked into my Discord problem because of the crashing and
the burning. Checked sites. Rick and Morty is back! Yay! Watched the next
episode of that, very good! Tried to set up Tinker's vet appointment, but I
guess it was too much for them, they're not doing wellness appointments
anymore. Ah well. We'll get you later, Tink.
Then spent 45 minutes with a guy on the phone who could get on the internet
with his PC, but not on wireless. I got onto his PC, saw his router said it
wasn't connected, saw his PC had a real IP address from Spectrum... this all
points to it being plugged in wrong. When he finally got it working he still
wouldn't admit he had it plugged in wrong, insisting he changed nothing and
it was just the reboot that did it. Uh huh. No, it doesn't work that way
don't lie to me.
So I managed to get online to play with the others just in time. Push to
Talk works in Discord, which is odd, but workable.
Tues:
Fairly boring day, as I expected. Certainly didn't write another chapter! I
tried another card on the products I just tested, for completeness. I did a
little USDA testing. (testing a patch to make sure a certain screen went
away when it should. It does now) I looked at the tablet, but there were no
easy bugs I could close and the new version isn't out until tomorrow. Ugh,
need something new to do.
Came back here, two calls. Ate dinner, checked sites.
Tonight was a half hour getting someone moved over to Thunderbird, and
twenty minutes getting Zoom installed for someone else. Such is life.
Downloaded the other... I mean legally acquired the other Equestria Girls
movies for later.
Tomorrow will be USDA so I'll at least have something to do, I should think.
Now what to do for the rest of tonight? Maybe another Future Cop stage? I'm
not sure what will happen in the book next, need to think about it. I did
another stage. One more to go?
Wed:
Mid week already, how are you all doing out there?
Not a lot done today, we had the USDA meeting but no new software until
Friday. Apparently the NDES stuff I talked about is coming back to haunt us,
we need it now so I'm going to have to chase down the folks who were
"helping" me before, if they're even still around? Yeah, that'll be fun,
given how "eager" they were to "help" me out before. That came in at the end
of the day. Along with "Test something we didn't do because Kathy needed to
do it, in D5.1. That's already shipped. Not 5.3, that we could still
actually fix stuff in. Oh, and Kathy doesn't remember how she tested it, nor
did she make any test cases, nor can she provide any examples today because
of the aforementioned forgetting. LOL. Good luck!"
So I installed the old build (from December of last year) onto a device and
I'll try to fight my way though that tomorrow. Honestly, it's shipped. It's
out there. Testing at this point is useless, we would have heard if they
were a) using it and b) it didn't work. Did he hear anything? Then either of
those things is false.
Between the meeting and that? Uh, some work stuff, of course. Lots of work
stuff.
Came back here, four calls? Who are all you people? One was just "do you
repair cell phones" and of course the answer is no so that's a quick one.
One was the lady I just sold the PC to. She called to tell me her audio
program, that I showed her would be empty and that she agreed it being empty
was fine, apparently it's wasn't fine. But I found the files easily enough.
(This is the one with the 500,000 temp files)
Another wants me to setup her new cable modem. Yuck, but it's Saturday and
she's probably safe. It's a retirement home! (I'm going to die, aren't I?)
And I didn't reach Cliff who I feel was going to be the longest. Neat.
Sean wanted to do Borderlands so after getting ready for tomorrow I said
that was fine.
The very minute we got into the game he called. Because that's how the
universe works. A half hour later I gave up. He can apparently only open
some programs. But not others. What? Windows... we need to talk.
Thurs:
Mostly spent today working out, writing, and then performing the tests
needed for the copy EIP service changes. I think they mostly pass, there
were some "failures" but that may be my not understanding something. I sent
the whole shooting match to Kathy to look over. And I'll be glad to wave it
goodbye if she says it's fine. Another thing off the list and behind us.
Otherwise I went to several meetings, the usual one at 2:30, and then went
around and watered the plants as normal.
Heard about the bird. The one person over in the one section started telling
me about it out of the blue. Apparently, wait a second. What does that even
mean, out of the blue? The blue... sky? Huh, weird. Anyway, apparently it
liked being in one of the plants so they moved it further and further down
towards the door until it was out the door. Glad to see it have a happy
ending.
Oh yeah, emailed the people "helping" me with the server stuff, we'll see if
any respond and provide further "help."
Got home, took a look at the laptop. There's a lot of things not working
with this piece of junk laptop. I thought it had an SSD but now, hearing it
groan on trying to reload windows I have to come to the conclusion it does
not. Maybe the drive is dying? I'm trying an in place upgrade of windows to
see if that will make a difference for anything. it's been more than an hour
and is only at 19%. Yeah, nice job.
No calls, but got ready for tomorrow. Sean wants to do more Borderlands so
why not?
Hey, the PC finally decided to do something and is now at the second 65%
mark. Maybe it will finish before tomorrow after all.
So we can talk briefly about the future. Tomorrow at work I'm going to do
blah. Who knows. Not me.
Then shopping, getting gas, and seeing my parents. Then home for Sean's
game.
Saturday, nothing yet. Sunday is of course Mother's Day and I hope my gift
gets here. The shipping date originally said it would come in plenty of time
but it just shipped today. So that's not a good sign. Sigh. Anyway I'll go
over to see her and have lunch. No flea markets for us this year.
So that's this week. Hope you are all remaining safe and far away from
anyone. Forever. See you next week!
