2019-05-24:

Fri:

Finished up USB service in the morning, nothing really unexpected to be found. 

Then had a tablet dropped off so I couldn't work on the reloading stuff. Oh, and I couldn't find it at first either. Seems the version of software we’re running vanished from the ftp site for some reason. What, are we getting low on space or something? Weird. But Joe had it, but then it didn’t matter anyway. Sigh. But yeah, the tablet came back from Staples because it needed to have some wires changed. Louis wanted me to hook it up and make sure it had been done properly. It had, it worked the same as the ones we had. Took some time to get it working through, it didn’t want to register on our system despite me following the directions. It just took longer than it should have.

The staples software looks way better than ours. Jealous! Their “beta” version was loaded and it’s really nice. Like a real android app, not a bunch of thrown together separate apps that have to try and talk back and forth and only some are native. Ugh, didn’t realize just how bad it was until now. I mean I knew it was bad, don’t get me wrong. Everything was animated, it was super responsive, it looked better.

Anyway, once I got that working it was 3:00 and I had an extra hour in from yesterday so I left. Did the shopping, went home, checked my sites, went to my parent’s house, came back here, then left for Sean's.

I was a bridge! Finally used my shapeshift power I paid good points for. It’s just too expensive energy wise (even with energy boost) to really bother with. But we tested more spells, which was the point, so that was fine. Maybe Gloomhaven next week? 

Sat:

Really needed to cut the lawn before it rained (or snowed I suppose) again so I cut a small strip of the front, moved the remaining sticks out there, and then did the rest. Should help when my parents come to get them, it’ll be less walking. 

Cleaned up as my parents were coming for the movie, had lunch, then did some reading.

Even played a few arcade games, what with the museum fresh in my mind. 

Then had the movie, and my parents offered some suggestions on fixing my door handle so it worked. Blackbeard’s Ghost, an old, old, Disney movie that proves the existence of magic, the soul, and the afterlife. No one seems to notice. 

I mean the whole point of the movie is to get money to save the inn. But the spellbook the guy finds lists a spell to turn mercury into gold. Oh really? That could be useful, no? If you need money?

Sun:

Mostly reading, finished a whole Dresden book. While I had Oliver on my lap. I guess it was his turn?

But I did do one other thing. Fixed my doorknob. I took the thing apart, poured some oil into the thing, and it was freed up immediately. Neat. Good call, oh parents mine.

No calls, but I did try to reach the lady who called me Sunday. Still no answer. 

Thunderstorm for a bit today. The cats were all like “what’s that?” I guess they forgot it’s a thing. 

Short week this week, looking forward to it. 

Mon:

Had the morning meeting but did a bit of the audit log stuff before that. As before we got a new build, and as before nothing in it changed. But I wanted to get it out of the way.

After the meeting I finished that up, then as we are "keeping" the machine until the developer needs it again I did the last of the MFD requirements tests, an upgrade test. While that was going on I was looking through to see what screenshots I would need to take for the next translation effort, because they want to get that in as soon as possible after Wednesday. 

We were offered overtime because we're so far "behind" on the non-staples tablet stuff, but ahead on the staples tablet stuff, but then late in the day Adnan said he was told not to do non-staples tablet stuff the other team was going to so I'm confused. 

Stayed an hour late because after finishing Scan to Email test cases in the afternoon he wanted the machine and I went to do more translation investigation. 

So I don't know what's going on tomorrow or what I'll be doing. Tablets? We didn't get any today, where are they all?

Came back here, checked sites, the usual, videos and dinner. 

Then spent 45 minutes getting someone their Roku set up and switching them back to firefox. She did a google search (of course) went to a fake Roku site, called the random number she saw there and spoke to a scammer. That's the best version of events I could piece together from her insane ramblings.

Tues:

Went back on the staples testing again in the morning. Covered fax, because nobody does yesterday's technology like Xerox. Or something like that. Went fine, wrote up a few things because I feel it's my duty to become more and more strict in my interpretation of the specs as time goes on.

Finished it up after lunch and certainly didn't work on chapter 16 while I waited for 3:00 my time to meet with Gina about what I'm about to do tomorrow. But if I had I might have stayed a little late to make up for it and not because it had been 25 minutes or so to finish what she wanted me to finish and so I had nothing to do and couldn't claim it as a whole hour. you know how that goes. 

Back here I checked sites, ate dinner, finished the next dresden book, and talked to a man (sorta) about going over there tomorrow. Very bad connection.

Finished chapter 16, time for an attack on the students!

Wed:

And so the next version begins. Took about an hour to get started, but loaded the new version and got to work. Only had a few resolved bugs to go through, and most were translation related anyway so I took screenshots as well. Then I started the translation screenshot effort in earnest.

Got through most of it, but at 3:00 dropbox mysteriously stopped working. Just out of the blue, trying to log on? No go. It would just go back to the log on page. Weird. Went down to the other lab to see if it was happening there, Gina came and you know anything involving her is dragged out, checked the "reference" machine in my area and it was down too. So it's clearly a dropbox issue and all our kiosks are down. Whoops. 

Whoopsy!

By that time it was time to go. (Spoiler, it was working fine the next day) My job after work was cameraman, the guy obsessed with recording around his property. Trying to catch some kind of vandalist (is that a word?) he insists exists but strange how you don't have him on camera yet. He had more cameras! Tiny ones. I switched his video player over to VLC, looked at them, explained about IR LEDs, and started a long format on a card that wasn't mounting. 

Came back here, had dinner. No calls, thank goodness, did some reading. 

Last day tomorrow, should be able to finish the screenshot effort, label it, if the meetings don't go on forever, that is. 

Why no tablets at all this week? Wasn't John doing a hundred every few days according to him? Weird.

Thurs:

Fairly busy today as well, with meetings and actual work.

Started the day getting the last of the screenshots for the effort. Then had the meeting, the first meeting anyway. Did a few tests I had to go back to from before, then started labeling the lines in the spreadsheet with the names of the images.

Ate lunch, then finished up the spreadsheet. She of course wants the actual pictures separated, because apparently the translation people are too stupid to filter a spreadsheet and simply ignore the files that don't pertain to them. You have to make it super simple, barely an inconvenience for them. 

Which will be super easy, barely an inconvenience for me.

Anyway, that answer hadn't come and I was out of work, so I went over to the other lab, waited around while a machine was updated, (had the second meeting) and took some movies I started getting timing information from. I didn't finish, wait, no, I did finish getting the movies, I didn't finish getting the times out of the them. I do need to be clear. I stayed an extra hour just because, and left for 4 days. 

Oh, other news of note, someone else has officially taken over the tablet stuff. They won't be able to do all the testing we did because they don't have the equipment we have. "So why not get them equipment?" I hear you asking. Stop being logical like that, you're not fooling anyone you know.

Got back here, had supper, checked sites, etc. 

Did some reading, talked to the lady with a million photos about her options for internet. Why is she getting a paltry 40Mb/sec while paying $70? Silly.

What does the future hold? I want to clean the car out a little and apply my decals tomorrow, maybe do some writing, and work on a Sean gift if that's possible. Also going to Sean's for more magic mayhem, seeing my parents, shopping as usual.

Saturday I'm going out there again (Sean's) to try Gloomhaven again, though I'm not filled with confidence in any way about it. Stupid sunk costs fallacy.

That's the right thing, right?

My only other plan for the long weekend is… uh… I had to get up and look at the list. There isn't another plan. So there.

Maybe cut the back lawn, it's getting long. 

So have a good weekend everyone. When It's over I get to go to the dentist, and then a week (or so) from now it's June. The rain has more or less stopped coming every day, perhaps now we can work on adding a little warmth to the equation? Is that too much to ask?
