2019-05-03:
Fri:
Fairly busy again today, I started with feeding the kitties over at my parent's house.
Then another round of the USB port testing, there's only one more family to go unless they want every single model of every family done.
In the afternoon I looked through the admin screens on the tablet and noted down all the discrepancies and the new strings we will need to translate. Apparently our developers can't make their software look like the pretty pictures we provide, but then we already knew that much.
Then it was off to do the shopping, which I did, then came home and checked my sites, ate dinner, and then was off to Sean's.
We only got through the first room, mainly because there are very few direct attack spells in the new rules, which is all we were using. Ah well, that's okay.
Sat:
Got up fairly late and then went to see the kitties. It was snowing. Isn't it almost May?
Back here I checked the sites, worked on making a spreadsheet modification for the spells that may be more useful than what Sean gave us, and then called the two people who called me today. Neither answered, which is somewhat hilarious because one of them was "oh, my machine has been running slow all week can you come today or tomorrow because I leave Monday."
First, not if you don't pick up your stupid phone! Second, if it was happing all week, why did you leave it to the absolute last second to call me? I'm not sitting there by the phone waiting your call. Third: You have a spinning rust HD, of course your machine is slow. It will always be slow. Change it, and your problem is solved forever.
While waiting for people to call me back I won Warcraft III. Managed to totally defend the human position for the entire 45 minutes. I had like two dryads left as the final seconds counted down. The orcs weren't even bothered, thanks for nothing you green skinned freaks.
It was a combination of dryads and hippogryph riders that did the trick. Just as youtube told me.
So now what do I play? Go back to Skyrim, maybe actually finish the DLC… er, start the main quest?
Finish FF7 mod challenge I was in the middle of?
Watched Dragon Ball Super Broly that Sean gave me, and Atlantis (aka nadia of blue water)
Then worked on plot a little, more putting the last 2 chapters in the main file honestly, then back to thinking about what to throw at them next.
I think I figured it out?
Sun:
Today was pretty crappy, overall. Allow me to regale you. Odd how the worst days are always the ones with the most… but I'm getting ahead of myself.
It starts innocently enough. I go to my parent's house and take care of everyone. Give them all the pettings or snuggling they can take, and come back here. I check my sites, watched videos, and made myself some lunch.
After that I called the lady from yesterday, who wanted "6 or 7" tonight. Lady, I'm not coming to your house at seven o'clock on a Sunday for any amount of money. But 6 I can manage I suppose.
So I call another guy, who called today. He says come on over. It's now 1:00. He's a half hour away and I head over there. I get there. I ring the bell. No answer. I call him. No answer. I wait. I ring the bell. I knock. I call. I ring the bell, I look up the address to make sure I have the right place and number. I call.
Nothing.
I go home.
I decide to take my frustration out on the filth that is my bathroom and get it all nice and pretty again. It's now 3:00. He calls.
He. Fell. Asleep. Yeah, he fell asleep. In the half hour it took me to get there, he fell so deeply asleep he didn't hear the multiple times I called him.
I go back over there, because I love having my time wasted. His issue is that windows boots, but displays nothing. I can see his machine isn't hung because the caps lock comes on. Booting with linux shows his video card is fine. Replacing it and booting to windows shows it's not a driver issue. It's just windows being it's usual derpy self. Oh, and I cut my thumb trying to get the new video card in, so I'm bleeding now which is all kinds of fun.
So I use system restore to yesterday and the machine, for a wonder, boots all right. I run the usual scans, in the usual way, and by now it's 5:15. (He gives me no more money for my trouble. Two hours of driving and a half hour waiting around for him for $50. Worth it? I think not.)
I head directly over to the 6:00 and have only about 15 minutes to wait before 6:00.
That one goes fine, no complaints I guess. We backed up her iPhones, (why do you have two, again? Personal and business? It's just a phone, you can give anyone the number… whatever)
I got home around 7:00, call printer lady who still does not answer, finally get to eat dinner, and write all that.
So that was my day. Oh, my parents got home safely, so there's that.
Mon:
Work continues to be work. We got the next build of the AT&T software so I loaded that and ran at least a partial test of the USB on two machines and the audit log stuff on another. Also went to the usual monday meeting which reminds me I wonder how John's interview went?
Anyway, did a little tablet stuff after all that, we got the translation work back so I have the "honor" of going through it and figuring out what bugs actually remain because what we sent them is months old now and I've already found a bunch of crap just looking at google translate and looking between screens to make sure everything is consistent. (It wasn't)
So I wanted to figure out how to exactly go about doing that, and I think I have some idea, it's still not going to be pleasant though.
Came back here, the usual sites, watched a movie, had one call so I called her back. A new record, only 20 minutes to connect me, allow me to remove the half dozen chrome extensions she had somehow managed to install, run mbam, and ccleaner. She can hardly double click something and tell me a number how did she get all those toolbars installed? Are sites just able to load them behind chrome's back? Because that seems like a hole they would want to close.
Got ready for tomorrow, did some writing again.
Tues:
I knew there would be bugs to write today. Oh, I knew it going in, there's no doubt. But just how many? I'll tell you. Twenty six. Yes, and I'm not even done, as the USB service crashed in a way it never had just as I wanted to leave. I reproduced it, so it's getting written up tomorrow. Along with the rest of the Spanish bugs, which were not as nicely laid out as the French ones, by the way.
Anyway, spent all day doing that. Just looking through the translation issues sent back and writing up bug after bug.
Oh, and there was a donut involved, with m&ms on it.
Came back here, did the usual still while eating dinner, and went back to chapter 13.
Finished it!
Played a littlle borderlands, for the lafs.
Wed:
Biggest news first I guess. We are losing John, he's taking the nursing position so his last day is next Friday, that would be the 10th. See ya, traitor! Ha, I'm kidding.
Or am I?????
Anyway, having a lunch, or perhaps the first of many lunches? for him tomorrow.
Busy again today. Finished up the last few bugs I needed to write, so hopefully they can have tons of fun going through them. I'm up to 999 bugs. One more to the even thousand baby!
Then went back over to the other room for another round of audit log testing. Here's a fun story- Sue and the others wanted me to try something on the C9000 relating to the old AT&T stuff we did. I did. It turned the admin off, which we all expected, and that was that. Except I went on with the test. Part of the test is to turn off IPv4 leaving just IPv6. After I did this I realized the fatal flaw in my brilliant plan: namely I couldn't get to the LDAP server anymore, and thus, couldn't log into the printer. Smooth!
So I had to put in the code to remove the feature which wipes the machine, and I must have typed it wrong several times but it finally did work. That wasted about an hour.
I stayed about 40 minutes late finishing the test, to make up for tomorrow which I'm sure will be at least an hour away for the lunch.
Back here I checked the sites and ate dinner, then worked on Chapter 14.
Got past the combat at least, then did a little more Borderlands.
Thurs:
Finished up the USB testing, at least according to Chris. Hey, if he's happy with what we've done, and he's the "lead tester" then who am I to say otherwise?
I did another round of the audit log testing and analyzed the SNMP data from the night before. There are, I think, a few events were not getting logged. I'll make sure of that tomorrow and write up a new bug.
Oh yeah, how can I forget the Boris story? He confronts me about signing "his" printer out but I insist it wasn't signed out to him when I signed up for it. He says fine and I'm giving it back to him when I'm done with the test in twenty minutes anyway. On a hunch I look at the sign out system page which does indeed have a timestamp as to when the machine was signed out. I signed it out on the 29th of last month, he signed it out a whole DAY later, on the 30th. Vindicated! And you have the gall to accuse me of not being careful enough? Get on my level, sir!
Meanwhile had the morning meeting, the afternoon meeting, went out to lunch for John who is off tomorrow and then only have 5 days left. Then started going though the test cases to make sure they're all up to date for the next regression test effort that's coming up soon. A lot of them are, some haven't been "converted" to have the new "cover sheet" that we're using now, (it's TPS based) so I'll have to do that as well tomorrow. Should be "fun."
And Gina wants to be sure I have things to do. Honestly lady, get on my… oh we did that one already.
Stayed a little late, lunch was fairly long and I wanted to do all the "easy" test cases first and get them out of the way. All I have left are ones that need tweaking at this point.
Came back, ate, sites, the usual.
Then worked on chapter 14 more, finished it. But I do have to proof it.
Let's see, looking forward tomorrow is lots of spec updates and SNMP bug perhaps then of course shopping and seeing my parents. As I have one more check I'll go to the bank, it's been long enough I better get rid of them. I may go buy cat food too, we'll see.
Then heading to Sean's? No text yet, so I don't know.
Then Saturday is Mizzy's party. Too wet we're thinking for cutting the bush down by the side of the house, so that's going to have to wait. Maybe more writing as I had no calls today either.
Then the rest of the weekend chilling. Nice.
And I mean chilling, it's cold out there! It's may for goodness sake. Next week is tinker's exam before getting teeth done on the 16th, and don't forget mother's day is coming up.
That's it for this week I guess. Hope it treated you well, see you next time.
