2019-04-05:
Fri:
Boring at work, did write one bug.
Shopping, didn't need much actually, but did find my favorite candy.
Saw my parents, yummy fish for dinner, then went home to put stuff away and left for Sean's.
Stayed on track pretty well, even changed a rule or two so it's still worth doing, we're shaking things out.
Came back, went to bed.
Sat:
Got up a little later than usual, cats were hungry.
Started out with the list, top of the list was cleaning the basement. The floor really needed washing so I pulled up the rugs, rearranged them actually, and washed the floor. Twice even. And I even mopped up the stairs, so you know I was serious. Vacuumed the rugs, then vacuumed the living room. Next week we may tackle the breezeway, which in many ways is far, far worse.
Cleaned up the rest of the house, buried the mouse I had "chilling" out in cup on the breezeway.
Called Ellen at 1:00, no answer. Called at 2:00, no answer. At 2:30 she called me, said it was "too late" to come could I come tomorrow. Sigh. Two o'clock is too late? Odd.
So I called horses guy down the street, because once again he had messed up his passwords and such. Laying there was an invoice from "jeff's" computer for, get this, $400.
For doing the same thing. Passwords. Setting up fitbit, (which by the way I had done myself previous to this). I have… many questions:
1) Did he forget I exist temporarily? Given my rate is apparently 1/8 that of "jeff" why are you calling a place like that?
2) How can he get away with charging so much? I make just a touch over that in a WEEK, at my regular, real, honest to goodness job. You can buy a whole PC for that kind of money. How does he get any repeat business? Unless you're putting in a furnace or re-roofing my house, there's no way I'm paying anyone $400 to do anything, much less sit there and reset my passwords for me. (For like the fifth time in a year's span)
3) How did my business drop off so much, given my rate, at the time, was $40 an hour? Or had I moved to the flat rate by then? Either way, shouldn't I have been crazy busy given the out of sight prices charged otherwise? People should have been shouting about my service from the rooftops, given the alternative.
Looking at his website he apparently has a degree in "computer programming" whatever that is, because I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist. But no pricing information, strangely enough.
I am baffled on many levels. How does he sleep at night, having ripped people off all day long? I suppose he's not, if morons such as horse guy are paying his outrageous rates. Must be nice, not having a… what's the word? Conscience! That's the one. I just hope one day he can become a real boy.
Did more reading and my parents came for the movie. It was pretty good, I hope they liked it.
Sun:
Finished the Wheel of Time, the entire book was basically a week or two of fighting. I couldn't have written it.
Paid my estimated taxes, did a little more cleaning stuff, ate lunch.
Played some Chrono Chross.
Went to get my machine back from Ellen. That went fine, no troubles. But it was snowing really hard the whole time. Yuck.
Came back, ate dinner.
Read some more of the "the world of Robert Jordan's tWoT" book. Had 2 calls within a minute of each other, Doris and high school teacher guy. Doris just had gotten Avast with the ccleaner I guess she didn't uncheck the little box, and teacher guy wanted a smaller laptop because his 17" was too big. I found him one and that was that.
Got ready for good old Monday and wrote up an idea I had for how to make Channeling work a little bit more like we see in the books. I think I succeeded.
Mon:
Not a single bug was written. By me, anyway.
Instead, I got to work looking spec over, and then in my email was the largest documents of them all. Three of them, actually. The user guide, the "quick start" guide (93 pages) and the admin guide. I read them all over, made some corrections and suggestions so I was helpful today!
Stopped at Lowes on the way home and got two tubes of adhesive, when I got home used one to glue a lot of the milk cartons together. Tired of cats knocking into them and having to try putting it all back together. Used up the first tube, going to open the second once I have all the lemon juice bottles I need. It's one step closer at least.
Checked my sites, then made phone calls. Spent 20 minutes trying to get a guy to move his task bar from taking up half the screen. Thanks for still allowing that by the way, MS. Great idea, 10/10, would recommend implementing again.
Then some Chrono Cross.
Tues:
Nothing so noble done today I fear, though I did write a bug or two. Strangely long names seem to give the USB service trouble, never thought it did in the past. Odd. Put in a feature request to split large log files as I found my log file today at 700MB. Not even word will open a file greater than 500 so that's pretty useless. Also reopened that bug with a vengeance.
Otherwise poking, and not writing. Nope, not a word.
Came back here, ate dinner, no calls but I did talk to Ellen again. Windows, in its infinite wisdom, created a second printer so she was printing to the "old" one. Thanks Windows.
Otherwise quiet so far. Finished the "world of" book and played some more Chrono.
Wed:
The biggest excitement for today was staying a little later, so I could leave early on Friday. I don't know when Sean wants to meet at the restaurant, but at least this way I'll have plenty of time to drop stuff at my parent's house, get gas, you know, the usual.
Did the usual Wednesday stuff as well, loading the new release and then working on my bugs. Only 12, they're going back into "not fixing anything" mode. Wrote two new ones and sent a few back with some more notes on how to reproduce. The two new ones are the name changing if you do a specific set of steps, and somehow some odd words got onto an area of the screen they shouldn't be on. Naughty words.
Someone has finally worked on the ice machine, it's only been since January that it was busted. That should make people happy.
Certainly did not finish up chapter 6. If I had, Lysanias would be about to take on the three young Aiel girls to get into the dreamer class. He can take them. Right?
Came home, did the usual of eating dinner and checking sites. Windy out there.
Played some Chrono Cross and then wrote up the small battle scene with three Aiel ladies, which went fairly well. Not for them, for him.
Did get one call in the end, so I have a job for tomorrow. Something about links not working? Uh huh. And passwords, meaning he doesn’t know them. At least it’s only about 20 minutes away.
Thurs:
If meetings are an exciting part of work, then today was an excitement two parter.
Even more because it was a bonus, super long meeting. 9:30 to 11:30. Sweet.
Otherwise, I'm not sure I wrote up anything today! I did show a guy my USB with the file that shows the weird message. But only that file, and that USB. Very strange.
Certainly did not write anything.
Chris was out, he emailed that he had a plumbing emergency, but never came in. Either he died, it was worse than they thought, or he simply decided to take the rest of the day off. Which is most likely I wonder?
Went out to see Gold guy, he was somehow using version 3 of Firefox. Yeah, that might be your problem. They're up to, what, version 66 or something now? Crazy. Anyway, took it off, updated stuff, started an mbam scan but he wanted to leave and I didn't want to stand in his way so I told him to push the button and that was that.
Got back here, checked the sites, got ready for tomorrow. Figured out where we're going for Supper, and what time. I should make it easily? 2 hours to go to the bank, do the shopping, drop stuff off at my parent's house, get gas, get back here, put stuff away, feed kitties, and get out there? No problem.
Ellen figured out how to plug her speaker cable in, apparently it's built into the monitor which I didn't realized. Oops, that was my bad.
Looking towards the future I've given you a glimpse of tomorrow. Saturday should be fairly quiet, probably more Chrono Cross unless I miss my guess. Cleaning, the usual. Fairly quiet. Sunday will probably be time to tackle the breezeway if it's nice enough.
Hope your April isn't going too badly, see you all next week.
