2019-02-15:
Back to just poking stuff at work, nothing really exciting to report. We did get a newer "official" build of the printer software, why didn't we just wait for that? I have no idea. Upgraded to it, that went fine. That was the biggest excitement. At least over in my side. The others were all atwitter over some power supply stuff, something about some tablets not liking the 5amp one?
Otherwise, no parents so after work I did the shopping, dropped off some stuff at their house, petted a kitty or two, and came back. No Sean either, so it's a stay in night.
I made more tea, leaving the bags in for 15 minutes, not 12. It's a bit stronger but not all that much. I think I like it a bit better though.
Checked my sites, finished up the next chapter. They got 3 bodies, an electrocuted guy, and 4 regular guys in armor pinned under the mountain spirit to deal with. Before someone comes to investigate all the noise. Should be easy.
Po was having a windy day, by the way. Power was fluctuating around here, but never went off. The ice is gone from everything at least.
Sat:
Got up and finished chapter 25.
Then went right into chapter 26.
Finished it at 2:30.
Cleaned the house a little.
Made some changes to the site.
Watched some movies. I know how the current book is going to end. I thought about just demons, but no, I can work in one more world, and it leads in nicely to where I wanted the story to go anyway. Sweet!
Sun:
checked sites
worked on chapter 28
then went over to Heather's
One call, another person that called a random number they found on the internet believing it to be Yahoo, who has no support number unless you're paying them $5.00 a month. Nice job! He still wants me to come over though, which is fine except for the half an hour of driving I'll have to do one way.
People, please, if you want to get a support number:
1) Go to the site you want support for
2) Look for their support or help link
Do not just google it and call a random scammer in India.
At least when the guy asked for $300 he said no. Seriously, why would Yahoo want that kind of money to fix their own problem?
Book guy emailed me. He got a new machine, despite my telling him there was nothing wrong with his. He does typing, you don't need a new machine. Prediction: A month later he says "this new machine does the same things as the old machine." Why do I predict this? Because the last person I told they didn't need a machine said it. Well, whatever, you like spending a thousand dollars on something you will see absolutely no benefit from? You go ahead and do that. Have fun with that.
Mon:
Things are really heating up around here. Or no wait, what's the opposite of that?
Bad weather incoming for tomorrow, but you want to hear about today? You do want to hear about today, don't you? (Spoiler: you really don't)
Because nothing exciting happened. We had our monday meeting, it took "only" an hour today because she had another meeting. Honestly, when do people do work? They're just in meetings continuously. Very odd.
No bugs were written today by anyone. What were we all doing? Who can say, who can say.
Went out to see 2 laptop guy, left work late and still had to wait in the car (it's 26 whole degrees, it was fine)
Nothing really wrong, he had pro Mbam so scans had been done within the last 24 hours. I checked it over anyway, ran updates. Useless.
Got back, sites, ate dinner.
One call, changed Thunderbird (she said Firefox so I thought she was using webmail) encryption type to Oauth, and it was fine. Yay!
Don't know if I'm seeing Book Guy tomorrow with the snow and the rain and the nasty.
Worked on the plot for the next segment.
Tues:
Today was somewhat the opposite, there were a bunch of bugs written. I even wrote some, go me. Nothing all that interesting, but we will get a new build tomorrow (with demo) and I have plenty of bugs to verify so that should keep me busy.
Didn't snow as much as I feared, but we did get a lot. It's wet and heavy, so maybe light and fluffy it would have been more? It was fairly nasty out.
Went over to see book guy. The transfer took a bit longer than I expected, but that was fine.
What isn't fine is his call tonight at 7:00 that he "can't figure out how to use" the new machine. He can't "shut it off." Uh, what? The Mac OS look and feel hasn't actually changed since Mac OS X came out in… the late 90s? Early 2000? So now I have to go back over there, because "something" "is wrong" with the new machine. Le Sigh.
Wed:
I didn't have to go over there after all. He emailed me.
"I was doing something wrong.Thanks."
No, really? What a shock.
Hey, want another example of people's stupidity? You would?! Fantastic!
I went to my usual lunch eating spot today and found something curious. You see, we've been replacing our projectors with TVs that have this wireless USB thing (rather than a wireless HDMI thing, but okay) which is dumb for another reason. The projectors still work. Replace them when they die, certainly, but not before time. Anyway! My room got one of those TVs a little while ago and today, I was greeted with this amusing sight.
[[image file="2019-02/coverthattv.jpg" alt="cover it" ]]
Yes, the TV has been covered, creating a huge bulge in the screen. Are people really so unwilling to try "the new thing" that they will put up with something like this to use the "old thing?"
I turned it around because there's a screen on the other side of the wall too, and put this screen up. Morons, I mean honestly, can we try a little? Just a little, that's all I ask.
Having taken that picture off my phone I can also show you a picture from a bit ago, a jeep with a jurassic park/star wars crossover. Neat!
Anyway, today! I did upgrade to the latest release and go to the demo. The first thing shown was my multi-page TIFF bug, so that's nice. A few other things fixed, go to it.
I did so. I had 28 bugs to verify, I got through most of them. And wrote today's only 4 new bugs as well. My coworkers must be hard at work doing something over there, but what I cannot say.
With no after work job I came home. Driveway is a sheet of ice, that'll take a while to get rid of. It's snowing pretty hard now, by the way.
Checked the sites, the usual. Forever alone day tomorrow, made sure I put the chocolate stuff out so I don't forget it. I think it'll stay frozen out there, it's 28 degrees and the breezeway can't be that much warmer.
Decided to increase my 401k from 10% to 14%. This only reduces my paycheck by $50 but according to my calculations puts $24364 more into my savings and saves me $6500 in taxes. Over the next 20 years, that is. Make of that what you will.
98,898 words on the book. I'm not making this up.
Spoke to a lady on the phone for 40 minutes. In the course of looking for a USB cable into her printer she unplugged her router. When I asked if there were lights on the router I was lied to, with a "yes" answer. The real answer was "no." So it took 30 minutes of messing around to discover the router was, in fact, unplugged and once plugged in and I was finally on remotely, it took me 2 minutes to actually solve her problem. Brilliant. 38 minutes of setup, 2 minutes of solution.
Worked on the next chapter, Jason reaches closer!
Thurs:
Had the choice between making up a new performance test or working on the screenshots of the alert messages for the translation team.
I chose… poorly.
Spent much of the day on them, in between eating chocolate goodies, and got only 1/4 of the way done.
Anyway, happy Forever Alone Day!
Tomorrow it's back to getting more screenshots of alerts. Ah well, it's something to do.
Came back, had three calls today? Huh? I haven't had that many calls all week, where did you all crawl out of? Made one appointment for Saturday at 11:00, one person was talking to the manufacturer of their router (I hope!!) and one person said they weren't available tonight.
Router lady never did call back, so she must have gotten it squared away.
Checked my sites, got ready for tomorrow.
Played a little Chroro Cross, to see how Kid talked. I remembered correctly.
Looking to the future it's more Monster Mash tomorrow after work, shopping, and seeing my parents. I'll go to the bank though there's not much reason to.
I'll probably call the lady I didn't get to talk to in the morning. It's in her office, so I don't know about her getting me access to it. Maybe I'll try to call her Friday night when I stop here to drop stuff off before Sean's?
Oh, I have to do my paperwork from January too, by the way. There's only 6 people to put in, so I forgot up until now. Whoops.
So that's half of Febtober gone already. How about that?
Stay warm out there, everyone.
