2018-12-21:
Tablet stuff today, it was just as boring as I recalled.
I did write up some bugs. One but that had been but he didn't use the term I searched for so I didn't find it. Oops.
Someone brought in bagels, someone in the other lab brought in donuts, Chris was just eating breakfast all day.
I only had a bagel.
And some leftover chips.
And took the rest of the bagels home because I was basically the last one out.
Had dinner with my parents, came back here, checked my sites and did the usual stuff.
My father had a great success gluing the inner rings to the snake ring, it's fitting really well now.
Lost $220 in the market today. Not impressing me lately, market!
Sat:
Started right into it by getting stuff off the list done.
I cut out the "questions" for the game and applied pony pictures to the gifts (which is the style at the time).
Oh, my father glued the ring too well. I can't actually get it off. So that's a thing. It does stab me a little bit, maybe cutting the ends off might help? On both counts? Hard to say. It's stuck there for now though. How did it go on so well if it won't come off?
Downloaded the rest of the She Ra reboot, see what that's about.
Made a few changes to the objects for the game so the smallest among my new recruits can use more of the items I've made.
Laptop guy came to get his laptop. Said his daughter was going to take care of it. Oh really? She's going to order and install a new drive, then reload windows 7 (from where?) using a sticker that has no serial number. Really? REALLY? You have to pay for the part anyway, I've already got the machine, and I told you I could probably scrounge up a serial number for you. So why not just let me do it?
Oh, you're a moron, I get it. Right, forgot that for a second.
Made a list of things to buy in the afternoon, ate lunch, and went out at 12:00.
Made a lot of things mine.
Got a few more gifts for the game.
Got a 1085 air filter. Why is my old 1085 air filter 25 inches long but this one is only 20 inches long? It doesn't make sense to me.
Dropped off the laptops at staples, and as I was there decided to get a new appointment book. I was standing there holding it my hand, when Brain pipped up.
"You know, you only do one appointment per day now."
"I know that."
"Good, good, that's real good man. Thing is, why do you need a book for $30 when the Staples one is right over there for $20?"
"Good thinking Brain!"
"Naturally."
*Got the cheaper one*
"Wait a second."
"Now what, Brain?"
"You really do only do one per day, and a few at most on weekends."
"We established this."
"So why not a simple desk calendar? They're only $12 and have lines, you could write down a time or two if you needed to."
"Brilliant Brain, thanks for coming through!"
"Of course."
*Puts book back, picks up desk style calendar.*
*Walks to end of isle*
"Wait, what's that?"
"Now what, Brain? Oh, I see what you mean. The same thing for only $5.00, the Staples branded one."
"You know what to do."
So I walked in expecting to pay $30 and walked out paying $5.00, and it does the same thing.
Got gas. Oh, and first I went to get cat food. Decided I might as well, I was going that way.
Got back, put things away.
Puttered around until it was time to leave.
We stayed on track fairly well, making it through the first encounter with the two zombies. Next time we can just pick up from there and start exploring the tower.
We might do an "alternate" game this Friday, we'll see, as I'm going to see my parents Saturday instead.
Sun:
Got up and looked at my sites, started putting the entries in for the book. He put the last two as duplicates, so that's par for the course.
Went to set up the router, that was fine, then came back for lunch.
Wrapped the gifts for the game.
Investigated why a certain process on my Mac was taking up loads of CPU time.
Got the leaves out of my driveway as it was raining, not snowing, and so the ice that had trapped them was finally gone.
Can't figure out the CPU thing. There's nothing in the log at the time just before it starts to happen. And it doesn't happen right at boot either, it waits maybe 10 minutes. I've turned off all launchd stuff, I have no cron jobs, where is it coming from?
Managed to get the ring off, maybe my hands were colder? Made a slight modification, cut the very ends off the inner rings. Seems a bit more comfortable now.
Watched more She Ra, it's okay. Very Princess of Jemworld reboot, actually.
Mon:
*Crosses fingers*
I think I figured out the CPU issue. Yeah, it's my Firewire 800 cable of all things, totally unlike anything the forums said to even check. But with nothing left to remove internally I had to start looking externally. And when I unplugged that, the CPU went back to doing nothing. Sweet. Let's hope it holds up but so far so good.
What else was good today? Not the snow that started to fall as I left work.
Not book guy, who still managed to complain about everything despite my simply being able to say "yup, here's your stupid book." He says he's almost done with it. HA! I've heard that before, but it continued. So yeah, don't make me laugh.
Work was fine, I got some christmas goodies shoved in my face. So yummy.
Wrote 6 of the, uh, 6 bugs for today, so I must be testing the tablet again. A few minor things to be sure, but every little bit helps.
Going out to lunch with "the gang" again tomorrow, I guess it's the season for that too.
Back here I worked on the CPU thing, got ready for tomorrow, checked sites, no calls!
Made some of the monsters for the game, it's kinda annoying trying to do it on the fly.
Tues;
Didn't get much accomplished today, work wise. We had the team lunch, thoughtfully provided by Gina, thanks Gina! So that cut into the day. And we had our usual Thursday meeting today because managers love meetings. They don't want to miss out on a single one.
So that cut into the day as well.
I did manage to get more monsters down I mean more work done!
Obviously, that's what I meant.
Made a few modifications to the items potentially taken from the dragon's treasure. Some are good, some are bad.
It's going to be a long two more days. So long.
Came back here, finished up She-Ra, made some calls but one person didn't answer and the other had solved their issue.
Checked sites, the usual there.
As I had purchased a nice silver frame at the goodwill I started that 3D Ladybug project I've wanted to do for months now. I'll have to get more paper, I don't have all the colors I need.
Then I watched an episode of Season 2. Of Ladybug, if that wasn't clear.
Wed:
I'm down only another $161.54 dollars in the markets today. Yes! I can feel America being made GREAT again.
It won't be long before I've actually lost money in the market, as of now I'm simply erasing any gains. How does that work, exactly? At tax time, I mean? If I've now got less money in the stock market than when I started, can I take that as a loss somehow? Huh.
Anyway, Mitch brought in bagels and part of the celling collapsed today due to water damage in the lab so it was pretty eventful. Wrote some bugs, counted the hours until it was only one day left.
May have been roped into a project setting up a bunch of stuff I have no experience with, like Equitrac and domain servers and users, and cards! But they may have the setup they need elsewhere, so bullet dodged? We'll see tomorrow, there's a *gasp* meeting about it.
What else? Not too much I guess. The water thing was hilarious. The people in the other room were whooping it up and I heard, like, rain from over there. Curious I got up and peeked around the corner in time to see another section of ceiling crash down. There was a lot of water in there.
Went to do the tuneup, it was fine, no real problems but those made by the manufacturer themselves, putting in crappy spinning rust, and her paying the absolute minimum for her internet so her speed is crap. Honestly, Greenlight gives me how much bandwidth for only $50? Spectrum could give even the minimal accounts 20-30Mb/sec. No?
Came back, did the usual stuff around here like sites and giving a cat medicine.
Book guy said he was done with the book, so I put his last few entries in.
Talked to a guy for 30-40 minutes to close and whack AOL Desktop. For some reason it was starting when his machine booted, and it wouldn't close. Even I tried it! No luck. So I got on there and removed all 6 copies he had installed. Just getting him to get to the website and not do a web *search* was a trial.
Seems we'll do my game this Friday after all. Well, depending on how quickly we get through making characters for the Monster Mash game, that is. We'll see how it goes.
Thurs:
More bugs written today, because I do my job to the bitter, bitter end.
Had the meeting with the team about the 9,000 machine issue, with Chris and Christina. Neither is actually sure what they want from us. I guess just to make sure the setup is okay? The equipment is someone else's. I don't know. But I don't have to worry about it, because I'm not going back to work until the 27th. So there.
But yes, more visual and translation bugs were written, I'm a good worker.
Then I come home. Did the usual of eating and sites.
Cleaned up a bit, made sure I knew what I was doing tomorrow.
Finished the outline for the 3D Ladybug picture. Had a thought while doing it. What if I cut them out as normal, but on just thick *white* paper. Then painted them? I mean I could print them reversed, so the lines would be on the other side. Then a light coat of paint in the needed color. I have plenty of paint, wouldn't that be cheaper than buying a bunch of colored paper I'll cut one tiny square out of? I think so. I suppose I could whack the lines and just print the color too. I'll have to see which method looks best.
No calls, so it should be a quiet Holiday weekend.
Then watched a movie.
To the future: Tomorrow I'm taking off so I'll have to find something fun to do. In the afternoon I'll go shopping as normal, and put my few checks into the bank. Then back here, and at some point out to Sean's.
Saturday is my mother's birthday, so in the evening I'll go over to my sister's house to celebrate that.
Sunday a free day.
Then Christmas eve for the game, and Christmas day. Another day off of work, I'll see about my wrapping paper situation, buy discounted lights if I can find them for my tree, take the tree down, and put Christmas away. Then it's back to work and another entry. Four days and it's new years.
Whew.
Should keep me busy. Hope you all have a good holiday if you are so inclined, and I'll see you next time.
Say hi to Santa for me.
