Fri:
Only real highlight of the day was attending a meeting about the bugs I had written and not contributing anything at all! Yay!
Otherwise I did a little tablet stuff, investigating an issue where a file didn't get saved. We think the flash drive had 70KB of free space, not 70GB. Because that's more likely.
Finished the latest build on the C400, no B400 sorry. It worked just fine. As expected.
Certainly did not write some of chapter 12. Poor Mickey. I originally wanted the tomb to survive but then was like, no, he's down there alone and I want to keep him poor. It collapses on him because he triggered a trap. That's in character for him. Am I a bad person? I mean I let him be a vampire, that's not even normally a playable character! All it's done is get him set on fire, run out of town (that was his choice actually) and now buried alive. Buried undead? Re-buried? Anyway, those weaknesses I made him take to balance his vampiric powers (that are doing him absolutely no good, by the way) are making the story more interesting.
Went to the bank, forgot I had that check for the PC. Need to get another one in.
Went to wegmans for the mac and cheese stuff.
Went to staples for a router. Met an overly enthusiastic cashier.
Shopping for normal groceries.
Then got to my parent's house, they were already there! Had dinner, then came home.
The usual stuff for a Friday night.
Er, except for the part where I lost $1,000 in the stock market between the 3rd and today. HUH? What the heck happened? I was looking at it and like, oh sweet I made $100 today! Wait, didn't I have like a thousand dollars more than I seem to have the last time I looked? Sheesh.
Gonna take a while for that to recover, me thinks.
Sat:
Did a few things today, let's see if I can remember them.
Cleaned up a little and checked my sites before leaving.
His machine was messed up, I tell you that much. It kept giving such a polite message "oh, I say chap, windows has just flat out taken a dive don't you know. It's going to reboot in just a moment so there's a good lad, save your work before the old thing pulls the rug right out from underneath you. Jolly good!"
Longest error message I ever saw! And it wouldn't connect even physically plugged into the router, oh, and why does the man have a router that doesn't act like it? It's a spectrum unit with wi-fi, 4 ports, phone, the works. But the wi-fi simply turned itself off, and it didn't give a 192 address. Crazy! I had to hook a second router up to the first one. *shakes head*
I reloaded the machine from scratch as he had literally nothing on it, and that had the added bonus of wiping out that crappy webroot "security" software. So win-win. I just hope he doesn't auto renew that garbage.
Back here I had a crazy idea to use those glass spheres I got picking up the metal for dad that was down the street a few weeks ago. Using a part of Mizzy's gift (I ordered another one) I can mount them on a board and make them light up. With some felt covering the wood I think it'll look really neat.
Drilled the holes, checked the fit, just need the fabric. Why did Jo Anne's have to go away!?
Then made the Mac and Cheese, a triumph if I do say so. Then left for the party.
There were, well, just about everyone I've ever met though Sean there. Sheesh. And someone new, Dave's new girlfriend. Portuguese, and you better believe I knew how to spell that right off, because I wouldn't lie to you. Still spoke with an accent, when she said anything because she was about as quiet as I am. It's not a competition lady! Just kidding, she was meeting like 11 new people all at once.
Dave said they met on Match.com and recommended it over OKcupid even as a paid service because of the greater response he received. You know, for all the single people in the room.
(That would be me, in case you were keeping track at home. Just me.)
Got back quite late, but a good time was had by all.
Sun:
Had some leftovers and looked around for my tasks for the day.
These were varied and included:
Vacuuming the rug and general cleaning.
Getting to the bottom of the list of games, so I now have a complete favorited list of arcade games so I don't have to scroll through 3000 every time I turn it on.
Putting 32 more comics into the database.
Trying to download an episode of Dr Who that hadn't aired yet. (whoops)
Seriously considering putting my christmas lights up because it was so sunny and nice out. Didn't though.
Usual youtube and site checking.
Brought up a bunch of stuff, well brought down some stuff too I have stuff all over the place, for the Xerox event Thursday to get rid of electronics. Getting rid of my older Lexmark printer, do I really need 3 laser printers in the house? Somehow I don't think so. Thought about the copy machine that was Grandma's but no, I guess that's not in the way. Moved the printer over and now have the table back. I put the tools that were on the floor up on the table. Because why not?
Mon:
I guess on the bright side today I wrote 10 of the 14 bugs. Just did tablet stuff, obviously, as there's nothing really to do on the remoteUI side as far as I can tell. Despite not seriously testing that program for several weeks now it seems my companions are doing their usual stellar job teasing out bugs. Leaving me few to find. Oh, I did reach 700 total though, so that was a thing.
Otherwise, came back here, checked my sites, ate dinner, got ready for tomorrow.
Tues:
Man, I feel bad. I did half as much work today. I only wrote 5 bugs. Of course, I didn't work on finishing chapter 12, no that would be wrong. But I did write 2 new test plans, one for the MFD stuff, and one for the localization stuff. So did I do more or less overall? Huh.
Of course, when compared to the other three members of the "team" who wrote overall ZERO bugs for the day, one could say I did more work than 3 people combined. By our powers combined!
So there's that.
A few of my remoteUI bugs have apparently been fixed so we'll see about that on Thursday. Otherwise just keep poking along I guess.
Came back home, found a weird looking wooden thing with carpet on it. I brought it home for the cats, tried to put some little shelves in it so they could sit in there. Will they play in it? Who knows! There must be some trick to it. The nails either went too high up, too low, or split the wood and then came up at an angle. Sigh. Maybe I was using too thin a piece? I think it'll hold though. Don't want to dump a kitten.
Checked my sites, talked to the lady from yesterday about her email some more, then made another call to someone I didn't reach yesterday.
Wed:
More bugs written. My coworkers even did some. They aren't useless after all.
New build tomorrow of the remoteUI code, so back to that and seeing if the bugs are fixed. All three of them. Oddly they give a build number in the future, but a date of today. Very strange indeed. Which is it?
Back here, emptied the car, put the stuff in the car. This is because Xerox is holding a recycle event, so I can finally get the old CRT television parts out of my breezeway. It's only been a few months. Decided to give up the original laser printer too, the grindy one. Sort of hate to throw anything away, but it just sits there, uses up a ton of space, doesn't work all that well even ignoring the noises, and why do I need three printers in this house? I work for a printing company. Well, I work for a company that employs me at a printing company.
Then worked on a model for the ring I've wanted to make forever. Not going so great. I was trying to put some "scales" on manually, but looking at other shapeways rings there must be a better way. Some have crazy detail, and they're not doing it by hand. There's actually one that's almost perfect, exactly what I would want, but the snake isn't eating his tail! So it's no good. I want to be able to say "I made this ring" anyway. So there. If I can even figure out how. There must be a way to "texture" an object but make it change the geometry so it can be 3D printed. I just have to find it!
Sigh.
Thus:
Well I certainly didn't spend most of the day working on the ring, that would have been wrong. No, didn't come up with a rough base but am still unable to figure out how to make the skin look good. Before I just had one ring, now I have more of a double snake, so it's thicker and chunkier, more like a man's ring. And more like the graphic that's used with the spear. (You know what I mean) Also didn't do any reading when I got annoyed with it. Actually fairly pleased with the base, that I didn't work on, I mean.
What I did do was verify a bug after loading the most recent version of the software. It was fixed, the number keys on the side work now. And that's it. All the other bugs are fixed in the next release. Well, all the ones marked as fixed, they haven't fixed all that I found yet.
Went to the one meeting, Gina wasn't there I guess. I did remember to bring the stuff to the 208 parking lot and got rid of it. Yay!
Cold today. Like, 8 degrees from freezing cold.
Came back here, the usual, and worked on the ring some more. Mostly still annoyed, but then a breakthrough. I checked youtube rather than just looking up stuff in google. That actually worked, there was a tutorial showing exactly what I wanted, scale production in an automated manner that created geometry. It could just work.
Made one call, dentist guy but he had no actual issue so, okay. Got ready for tomorrow.
My water is hooked up to the temporary system. It's leaking all over, so that's fun. Don't notice any change in pressure. Cold though, sheesh.
And what does the future bring? No parents tomorrow, sadface. I'll go shopping, that much is clear. Otherwise, probably tablet stuff at this point. Not working on the ring. No.
Then Saturday going down to see the guy about the tuneup. It's right by jo-anne's so I'll get the material and hopefully finish my little LED project. Work on the ring. That should keep me busy.
Stay busy yourselves, we're sprinting towards the end of this year!
See you next time.
