2018-10-05:

Fri:
Work work work.

That's what I did today, strangely enough. Went to feed the kitties first, saw Gabe and a deer in the yard, so it was a double whammy.

Went to work, with the release loaded I dove in, wrote a few bugs but for the most part it works fairly well. When the machine isn't faulting out, that is. Day went fairly quickly, there's just a few more tests to do, the various browser tests for the most part.

Went to the bank, shopping, went to buy corn and bedding for the mice, then stopped to drop the corn off. Put some out, come eat it… uh, squirrels. That's right, squirrels. And nothing else. Saw a Gabe again, twice in one day? Stay safe out there little one.

Back here I checked my sites, had dinner, the antenna only shipped today? I ordered it Monday. What the heck? So no going out there this week. Next week though. It's fine, I don't need to get Sean his gift for a few weeks yet.

Made a different appointment for 12:00 though, but it shouldn't be too bad.

Sat:
It wasn't as she had nothing really wrong.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Got up and went over to see about the kitties. No Gabe today. Be safe out there Gabey-chan!

Came back here, checked my sites, put in a new option into the optional rules.

Went out at 11:30 ish to the new place. She did need her printer connected to the new wireless, but that was about it. She was going on about passwords, but her machine didn't have a password. Huh? I don't know.

Back here I completed a long standing project related to a bottle of pomegranate juice I can't show you because after having done it, I was so pleased with how it came out I suddenly realized it could be expanded into Mizzy's christmas gift!

So I ordered parts of that, and thank goodness I knew I would think of something. Have to keep it fairly generic for her, I don't really know what she's into. I was also thinking some sort of custom xbox controller as I once got for Sean. But now there is no need.

Looked into wheel of time stuff, I would love to craft a ring like mine of the snake. And there was a neat pendent I found. How do you make silver black? My ring has the spots of the leopard as black. Did someone sit there and tarnish each one individually? But they've never un-tarnished, I've cleaned it and polished it many time. Weird.

Was sitting down to read, had a cat, then took a nap. Whoops. Oh well.

Played Halo, and watched the Death of Superman.

Sun:
Went over to feed kitties one last time. No Gabe.
Then came back here and got into my day. With many important things done, like:

Playing more arcade games.
Reading.
Making and eating lunch.
Cleaning the house.
Finishing chapter 9.
Checking my sites and watching youtube videos.
Put the toner into the other cartridge.
Talked to a guy for 40 minutes to get his wi-fi extender set up. He had previously called some random number on the internet (despite lying and saying he had gotten the page by going to netgear and going to their support page directly) and let some random dude on his machine. His WORK machine, mind you. Smart! We followed the steps in the manual. You know, that thing you read to tell you how to do stuff about the product you just bought? Hard, I know.
Watched Ready Player 1.
Eating dinner.

My parents are back safe, my mother is packing packages. Huh, wasn't sure what I expected.

Mon:
But I knew what I was expecting today. Work.

Did a few things. The majority was setting up for the audit log test with 1.3, once I learned that the other branch hadn't changed at all. In other words, they touched nothing, fixed nothing, and just released the previous version as the final. Saves my testing it again, I guess.

So I ran though the test, and the results were exactly the same. At least they weren't worse. Also tested an old driver because a client doesn't want to install windows updates I guess. Seems fairly stupid to me, but hey, whatever. They're using a 3 year old driver? Seriously? You can't see but I'm shaking my head.

Wrote up the fact the remoteUI icon seems to vanish a lot now. Weird, it didn't do that before.

Wrote up a new spell, something I thought of from Kashimashi. The "fate entwined" spell.

Had some meetings, talked about the stupid way you have to go about getting the translated config report. Sue wants me to check the translation? Uh, no, there's like 25 languages on the printer. I only did one for discovery, and it was annoying. If they aren't getting the right strings then where are the strings coming from? They have to use what the printer already has, so further testing that is pointless.

We'll see.

Came back here, checked my sites, ate dinner, worked on chapter 10. Mickey's gonna get it!

And read some more. Rainy today, looks like a rainy week. Hey, it's October. It's Sean's birthday, Tinker was 2012, Oliver was 2016, and I'll be back 3 years at Xerox on the 26th. Wow, I've had Oliver two years now?

Tues:
More plugging away, we're in that mode now I fear. Have like all of this month to test the feature which works fairly well already. But I persevere, what else can one do? Did write up one thing, changing the language makes some blank spaces appear in the language list. Weird. Otherwise did most of the test on another model, I'll finish it up and probably start yet another model tomorrow.

What a model guy.

Wrote up a new spell, something I mentioned in the Susan story and never actually did. Just something to keep the rain off yourself. It was raining today. And some ideas I had for causing a lot more damage with low level spells.

Came back here, ate dinner and checked sites. No calls. There was a chipmunk just standing there on the deck, tried to take some pictures of him/her. Wasn't sure I got the focus right but actually I did!

[[image file="2018-10/chipsmonks.jpg" alt="tiny monk" ]]

Stay warm out there little chip.

Worked on chapter 10 some more. Finished it apart from the little blurb at the top.

Wed:
More pointless- I mean extremely important testing was performed today! No meetings, no excitement, just a slow plodding towards more models being checked off the list.

Mitch emailed me about what my "sense" was that the bugs I had found would get fixed. Dude, how would I know? Seriously though, how would I know? Not the person to ask.

Finding a lot of typos in the original Susan story though. Ugh, how is that even possible at this point? But we do find stuff in the Paragon books from years ago so it's not completely out of the question.

Came back, dinner, got in the antenna so that's fine. One call, someone with an XP system they got from their father. Okay, throw it away and I'll get you a real machine.
He's right out by Sean and antenna guy so I'll go out there and do all those things in that one area Saturday. Neat.

Thurs:
The first week of Octogre comes to a close. You read that right.

Got a new build, loaded it and finished the test on the machine I was doing. So it's half and half, fine. The language stuff got fixed, not much else. But at least it didn't get worse.

Loaded the other branch (one version ago) and then upgraded via CWW to see what the audit log said. It was fine. Then loaded that machine up with the branch I'm on, in prep for tomorrow and doing the whole test again. Yay!

Still finding tons of typos with the Susan story. Weird.

Had the two meetings today, and some lemon bread baked by Gina. Thanks Gina!

Thinking about it the machine isn't faulting at all, maybe that got cleared up too.

Came back here, the usual. Had one call. Spent a half an hour getting the guy to go to a website, hit the link to download the app, and get me on his machine. A half. Hour. To go to one website. His problem? He sorted his mail by subject not date. That's all. Of course he couldn't articulate this, and of course was clueless to solve it. Sorting. Oh, and he has 4000 messages in his inbox. I guess he like reading old spam messages years later?

Otherwise worked on chapter 11. They met the tomb keeper, but I still have a thousand words to go. I'm actually at 35,000 words for this story so far, which is more than I thought. I think I should actually have enough plot, almost for two books? Maybe just one long one, I don't see this being more than one book.

Was thinking about permanent spells. Imagine making the Legion spell, that can get you 25 (if done by an NPC) flaming soldiers- permanently. They would just be hanging out with you all the time. Sort of the same concept as Anton but a little different.

Anyway, looking forward. More of the same at work tomorrow. Then shopping, my parents are home so I'll see them.

Then Saturday afternoon is the two jobs, selling an antenna and a refurb system. Then Sean's to drop stuff off.

75, should be a nice day. Rain for Sunday though it looks like.

So that's it. Seven weeks until Thanksgiving. It'll go fast, believe me people. (And any puppies that happen to be reading this.)

See you next week!
