Fri:
Don't know how I forgot the mention this before: the leaves are starting to turn colors already. Yeah. Looking forward to that snow. (Or dreading it… but we won't go there)
Finished up the last machine and had two meetings (I told you I had plenty of questions) about the remote UI stuff. Adnan is getting tasked with some new tablet thing, so see ya, chump. Chumpster. Chumpinator. Chumptakula. Sorry, did I go too far?
Anyway, don't know what I'll do Monday now that this work is done but that's future Me's problem.
Went to the bank, shopping, forgot the cooler again and it was really hot out, and saw my parents.
Yummy "say goodbye to summer" dinner and then back here.
Two calls, and book guy has more pages but it turned out the first caller just lost their email icon, or something? I don't know. Anyway dentist guy with a new phone that apparently isn't syncing his calendar? Hopefully he won't have a list a mile long. But that's the afternoon.
My parents are coming for the movie tomorrow.
But back to today, there was a point where rain was really coming down and the wind was blowing and it was horrible…. for about a minute. Nothing like days of storms and months of rain in an hour. No.
Put in some notes in the Wheel of Time section for how the characters can come up with spells they don't know sometimes, and what it means when they do. Checked my sites, the usual.
Sat:
Cleaned in the morning. Parents are coming, you know how that is. Then left for the 2 jobs, horrible as I expected. Book guy had more to put into the book. Yay. Plus a bunch of other stuff that took an hour even before the book.
Dentist guy just didn't have the "right" calendar turned on, it was syncing just fine. But he had other stuff, like "hook up my blue ray player" and "Get the printer working with the phone."
I got off on exit 2 instead of exit 1 and had to go a slightly different way than I wanted. But it worked out, I saw an aquarium there and was like "I need an aquarium!" It's larger and taller than the two I have but that's okay. No it's not because the top won't fit I'm just realizing. Shoot. Well, I was going to use it with my two mice but now I'm not sure it'll work out. I'll have to buy a top I guess.
Stopped at stores on the way home, got popcorn because I forgot to get some. No kitty stuff at good will, thinking about the Christmas game.
Movie with my parents, it's the last one I had in the list so I'll have to come up with a few more we can watch together.
And finally some Halo. That one stage just goes on and on, it's my least favorite. Similar corridors, more flood, more corridor, more flood. We can teleport anywhere in the installation, we're seen doing it. Why not just do it there?
Sun:
Busy day. Started with cleaning up the upstairs room and putting the plants up there. It was sparked by a kitten getting at the tiny sunflower seed plant I had been tending. It was growing so fast! But today it was gone. Rather than deal with the plants in the kitchen I made space by the window and put them up there. I actually have a plan to get rid of some stuff.
Read a web comic I had read a long time ago but lost track of.
Worked on Sean's gift. Painting but some cutting as well.
Read more, finished book 3.
Ordered my monthly snacks.
Put 32 comics into the database, all of Justice!
Mon:
Quite a busy day today. Back on the remoteUI stuff, and it's quite strange. I had a bunch of bugs to write up from the previous testing so I figured I would get my screenshots/movies/logs first and then see how the newer version was looking. So I loaded a different machine than I had before.
And it was busted.
Wouldn't work at all. Nothing doing. Just gave an error. Huh?
So I loaded the old release onto a different machine but the same model and that was fine. Got my screenshots and such from there. Then upgraded it to the later release. That worked for awhile, I did some stuff with it, working on test cases and such (doing someone else job for them, I might add.)
Then it stopped working! Out of the blue, it just didn't want to work anymore. Same error. So I wrote that up too. Got a lot of progress on the test cases, but it'll be days before there's a new release, so now what?
Alone in the lab again, Adnan is off doing temperature tests I guess. Because we put a very hot tablet into a very confined space! Whoops! The fan is pathetic? You don't say.
So it was blessedly quiet in the lab today. All day. So nice.
Back here I checked my sites, ate dinner, more Dice comic, made two appointments. One guy tomorrow that "his bank" said he "had stuff" "on his machine" so that could mean anything, literally anything at all. And camera guy is back! Remember how I went over there because "they weren't recording" but they actually were? Yeah, same deal. How much are you willing to bet that oh look, it's working just fine. Can you even turn a security system off? Stop it from recording? I don't think so. Honestly, just give it up. You say "this kid" has been vandalizing the neighborhood for years, and your stupid grainy cameras aren't going to help the police identify him so forget it. It's not worth the effort.
Tues:
You know what else isn't worth the effort? Oh, I think you do. Don't lie.
Now, work. What happened? Not much. I worked on the spec, filling in the holes because hey, may as well do someone else's job. Sure, it's fine, no problem.
Otherwise I certainly didn't work on notes for the book. Nope.
Went to my second job, had to get back into the spirit of it. Okay, it didn't take long. It's like Christmas spirit, it just comes right back to you. Cleaned his machine out. How do people get so many extensions in their browser? Bizarre.
Came back here, the usual stuff, reading more Dice. Talked to a few people, but no appointment for tomorrow. Yet.
Wed:
Pretty busy all morning, somehow. Had to verify a few bugs so I was looking for a printer that still had the software I had loaded. The one still had it, but it's a versa link so of course it was faulted. I threw three resets at it (different one obviously) before it started to behave again.
Went to the tablet demo, they've localized another service and it's really rough.
All of the bugs Sue emailed me about today were basically "FX isn't going to fix this" and usually their reasoning is "But it's too haaaaarrrrrrrrrd. WAAAAAA"
You know to read the above line. Don't tell me you don't.
So yeah, so glad I put the effort in.
Loaded the new tablet release, but first had to get my machine back online, as someone had stolen the DMZ out from under me.
Pretty busy, right?
The afternoon was too, but certainly not with writing most of chapter 9, because that would be wrong.
Stopped in to my parent's house, make sure everyone was okay (it had only been a few hours) and petted a Gabe. Came back here, sites, videos, dinner. No calls, thank you very much, but I do have to get up early tomorrow to feed everybody so I'm going to bed early.
Tomorrow is the picnic so it's a half day at work. If the pattern holds we might get a new release for the remoteUI stuff. Maybe it'll even work.
Rumors of more layoffs? What do they think they're doing?
Thurs:
Today I got to help Boris with Thinprint! Apparently there's some customer… wait, I already wrote this didn't I? Somewhere? I don't know how Jen got off it (lucky her) and Boris got on it, but anyway that's the story. So after the meeting I set him up there.
Loaded the build, started the next test of the remoteUI. It didn't work on one machine but then did work another, so I factory reset the one and it started working. Weird. Didn't get very far, because picnic.
Had food, my fellow testers came, at least some of them, but left again fairly rapidly after that. The very nerve.
Came home, checked my sites and watched videos, then went out to camera guy. Hey, look at that, they're recording aren't they? Just the time was wrong. That's all.
Dropped off the toner cart, it still said low toner. Huh, I put the gear on right, didn't I? Sigh.
Came back again. One call, the guy I already told I was coming this Saturday. Did he… forget we spoke just yesterday?
Read more, and finished up Sean's gift. Wrapped it to take Saturday, if the stuff I ordered comes so I go see wi-fi guy.
Let's see, tomorrow will be the same, feeding the kids. I'll work on the remoteUI tests, hopefully get the full test done on at least one machine.
Then bank, I got a "tax relief" check I'll want to deposit. Only one other check so normally I wouldn't have bothered.
Then back here. Just the one for Saturday at this point, but no Sean so I'll just drop off his gift and the printout of Pyre so he can put the corrections in.
And then it'll be October. It's getting chillier, so summer is gone bye bye.
Have a good weekend everyone, see you next time.
