2018-08-31:

It's not.

Fri:
Really, really hate SNMP.
Spent the day on it, at least the script works (after I figured out the stupid mistake I made the twas keeping it from working) and I made one tiny step towards understanding and getting the tests right. I finally found a value that changed when I changed it. Two values, even. Image overwrite and the schedule for it. Too bad the one setting can't be set with SNMP and the other probably isn't what will generate an event anyway. Maybe?

I wrote up some notes, I have a few more to write up, like a general "here is how you can sort of find things?" to give to Adnan when he starts looking at this crap on Monday. I wish him luck.

Went to the bank, put in the last IRA money. Must be most people don't do it, nobody knows how to. Took about 20 minutes. Then shopping, and over to see my parents.

Back here I had one call, worked it out over the phone.
Sites and youtube, got ready for tomorrow. Made another fairy for the next adventure if we do my game. Did more proofreading. My <sean's gift> shipped, hope they look good.

Got another call at 10:00, the laptop I got dropped off, something about the charging light? Does it not go on? I have no idea, she wasn't clear. Sigh. How did you screw it up already? It ran perfectly.

Got invited to Allysa's house for games next Friday. 7:00 so it's late enough, should be able to do everything though I'll have to make any calls before I leave, or if I'm not going anywhere Saturday make them then. I reserve one night a week to not do them.

And book guy emailed me, wants to see me "after 3" so you know what that's about! That's right, his stupid book! Yay! Maybe he's stayed away from the rtf version so it's not messed up, at least? I locked it to be sure.

Sat:
Got up, went straight to work. Delivered the new PC, got everything moved over and his ancient software programs going on it.

On the way back was a few things just down the street so I picked them up. Some metal for my father because he doesn't have nearly enough of that stuff sitting by his garage. A poker that was quite rusty that I sanded down and painted with some of that high temp paint I had left over from the head engine. A shelf I cleaned up and had to glue partly together. Not sure where I'll put it but I'm sure I'll have something to put on it sooner rather than later. And a new trash can. One of mine the bottom is just rotting out of it. This one is rather a bit taller but whatever.

Ate lunch, checked my sites. Did some proofreading.

Went over to Sean's, listened to gunfire for half an hour.

Then did game. Still didn't get through the current adventure, they are taking the long-long way around the adventure which is just fine with me.

They were taking care of a kitten Kim had found, she didn't want it around the baby. It was pretty scared. Hope things work out for you little one!

Did some Woolly World and got to world 2, but we missed a yarn!

Got home and went to bed.

Was awoken by cats chasing a mouse. Now I have two mice. One in a very small tank to make sure he survived the night.

Sun:
Things I did today:

Mouse survived the night! Now I have to figure out what to do with him. Release him? Set up the other tank someplace? I don't know. Anyone want a mouse?
Mowed the lawn.
Took the stuff out of the car and took my cans in. A whole $6.00, nice. What shall I buy with it?
Got the driveway stuff.
Watched an episode of Hero Academia.
Looked at my sites, videos of the day.
More proofreading.
Went to see book guy at 4:00. Finally got back at 6:30.
Made a home for second mouse. I'll have to just clean each one and put them into the smaller "holding" tank as I do. Not a problem.
Cleaned a little.

Mon:
Not much exciting at work, Adnan was still doing the project that never ends, tablet stuff, until quite late. He didn't ask me anything so he must know it all now.

Upgraded my machine, verified a few bugs are fixed. Poked at things.

Went to my after work job. Didn't know his machine password, had to reset it. Got in, thanks for immediately slowing the machine down by downloading updates, MS. It was great. Did the usual. I have his email backed up on dropbox but it's too big. Possibly because of the 20,000 fake messages from asian dating sites. But I could be wrong. Tried to get Dropbox to ignore this one folder of messages. Nope, didn't want to happen. Finally gave up after 2 hours.

Got home at 7:30, made my calls. No job tomorrow, I need a new tire, so that's my fun for tomorrow. It's leaking and I don't want to find myself with a flat somewhere. Out there. Beneath the pale moonlight.

I hope mouse is okay, he just sits there. Doesn't run in the wheel, doesn't burrow and hide the Mystery Mouse. Is he just traumatized? He was eating in the little cage. I think he ate something today, but he's still just sitting there.

Got ready for tomorrow.

Tues:
Some measure of success was had. Armed with the hard won knowledge of last week I furiously attacked the SNMP cases, while Adnan did the same… in the other lab. I mean it's fine for me to sequester myself and not talk to anyone. It's almost expected at this point. But he should have come to see what I had done and worked with me to figure things out. Oh well.

In any case I wrote some minor scripts as it seems each table has their own way of doing things, because reasons. Standards? Pasha, what's that?

One minor setback was the fact the example in the spec document was incorrect. Chris spotted it, of course. Good old Chris.

I was planning to have a simple loop structure but given how different all these things are, I'll probably have to physically write out all the tests in the script, simply calling a function with the values as needed. Best of both worlds I guess.

Went to see about my tire. They found like a half a bent nail in there. Sheesh. They patched it for free and gave me a quote on new tires, which I do need before my inspection. I'll probably do that after Labor day, then the inspection the next week.

Then got some new stuff for new mouse. He still just hangs out on/by the wheel. Very odd. No burrowing, no hiding, he ate his peanut butter at least so I gave him more. He moves, doesn't seem hurt. But he's funny, hanging half on and half off the wheel like a chilling mouse.

Oh, maybe that can be his name. Chillinmouse.

He/she is washing themselves at the moment. Grooming? Whatever. Still alive so may hopefully perk up at some point?

Talked a few people through some things. Guy from yesterday with the "internet issue" actually just couldn't turn their machine on. Not the same thing! Unplugging fixed that. Shocker.

And a relative of mine having "permission issues" did not evidence such when I looked, but I did explain having no .doc on the end was messing with Word, and that's why it was saving another copy of the file with it when they closed.

And the iMac artist guy with a printing issue he said fixed itself.

Great, seems like nothing for tomorrow! I'm going to try making that grape pie.

Did proofreading the rest of the time, because I would like it to be done.

Wed:
Progress! I believe I've finished all the SNMP lookup stuff I can do, and started building the script. The script seemed to, for the most part, work! I had one error I didn't get to fix because meetings. I also went over the process for redoing the tablets that come back from the field as John is off Friday. Wish I was off Friday. Ah well, I'll just check out mentally, it's the same thing.

Otherwise, meetings, saw a demo of the new features, put the new version of the software on, and immediately "time set error" came up. Whoops. Didn't get a chance to really look into that.

So tomorrow I'll finish the script and can begin testing on time. Go me.

Came home, made pie. Or more accurately squeezed tiny grapes for 3 hours. And didn't have much to show for it, quite honestly. But we did as instructed, added some berries to make up the rest, and it's in baking now. I hope it's good, but we'll find out over the weekend as the cutting will be for my parents.
Oh, have to remember to buy them food for the great clean. Have to keep the help happy and that's the only way I know how!

Er, did some more proofreading. It was basically time for bed once the pie was done.

Oh, made some calls, and now that I think about it, I know the pie is going to be good. How do I know? Because it was balanced by needing to go see Dentist Guy tomorrow for my usual 2+ hours of agony doing crap no one in their right mind would think to do. And those that would, smart enough to figure out how to do it themselves. But it could be normal stuff. It could. Against all odds and history.

It could.

Hot today. Rainy too. Love it.

Cooler tomorrow then getting warmer again. Summer isn't over!

Thurs:
But I'm glad today is.

The first part was fine. I finished the script as far as I can take it, I don't think there are any more SNMP values that will be found to do anything. But I leave that to my coworker.

I can start the SNMP3 version script now, which will hopefully be just fine.

It was stupid dentist guy and his stupid things as usual that were stupid.

Got back at 7:30, had two calls. Made the first so I have a job Saturday. As I'm going to be at Alyssa's tomorrow I made it for fairly late (morning.) Then hopefully in the afternoon I can clean the driveway/deck.

Because we may do Labor day sunday, who knows.

Then it was the "oh the computer is at fault/buys new computer/computer wasn't at fault" guy. He somehow had a duplicate printer and I got him thought that. Then team viewer decided I was "commercial" despite not really doing many jobs this way and not taking any money for it.

So I looked into a different solution, briefly. That brought us up to about 9:00.

Oh good, the phone is ringing again. That took us to 9:15.

Get ready for tomorrow, open the mail.

So tomorrow is work, then bank, shopping, go to get cat food and litter, have dinner with my parents, bring groceries home, check calls, then go out for board games. Yeah, should be great.

Think I'll go eat dinner now. Yeah, that'll do it.

Anyway, enjoy your last day of August, and have a good labor day. See you next time.
