2018-07-13:
Fri:
Lots of people missing from work today. Wonder what the reason could be?
Meanwhile, those of us in the metaphorical trenches got right back to work. Wrote up 3 things, all sharepoint related. There may have been a couple of other bugs written? Actually when I got there my tablet was hung trying to boot, which was just delightful. Wrote that one up right away.
Certainly didn't write the next chapter.
Did shopping, saw my parents, got stories of PA.
Came back, made calls, or at least one. So nothing but dentist guy tomorrow.
A bit more DBSuper and time for bed.
Sat:
Got up and went right over to dentist guy. As expected, a two and a half hour long list of crap nobody else in their right mind wants to do. How many devices do you need, by the way? On the table he had a laptop, two android tablets and two iPhones. Must be nice to have money I guess?
Came back here and ate lunch. Checked my sites and went out to pick berries. Have a lot of them, that's for sure.
Took an hour and played more arcade games, found some more good ones and favorited more of the from my past.
Cleaned a bit before the parents come for the movie, the ants are now coming in from below, which I'm not sure how to deal with. They're coming in from behind the cabinets, then up onto the counter. There isn't anything on the counter, so what's attracting them? I'll have to get more traps I guess. Stupid things. Just stay outside and we're fine!
Watched more Dragon Ball.
Ordered some new backup drives, mine are getting full thanks to all the, er, legal entertainment files I possess. Yeah, that's it. Legal. Fully legal. Every bit of it.
I'm also going to move things around a bit. I have a 4TB and 2x2TB drives. I'm going to move the "temp" drive to one of the 2TB and move the stuff I use more often onto the new 4TB and the 4TB I have now. That'll take awhile, but at least I'll have some breathing room.
Then my parents came and we watched The Gamers 3, my favorite of the series.
Sun:
Got up at 7:00 and wondered what the heck I was doing up at 7:00!
But I figured I would get a start on it, and picked a lot more berries. Enough for a pie, leaving probably 2 pies still to come.
And there's more ripe out there if I was being honest with myself.
That done I made the pie. Cleaned up after making the pie.
[[image file="2018-07/p1016952.jpg" alt="the latest pie" ]]
Cut the front lawn, and moved a few more berry bushes around.
Checked my sites, ate lunch.
Finished Dragon Ball.
Dug up some milkweed for my mother and brought it over to her. Probably killed two of them, sigh. They have a funny root I didn't expect, and getting them out of where they are was tricker than I expected and they're awfully brittle. I was trying to get the first one and it just came off in my hand, with no root.
I've stuck them both in a pail of water, we'll see if they root out again.
Ate dinner. May have had a second piece of pie, who can tell? Read a bit, tried to reach the lady from last week, still no answer.
Got someone back into their email.
Got ready for tomorrow. No days off again for two months. When it'll be labor day and I have to do a bunch of work.
Mon:
So I got into work, knowing it would be a wonderful time all around. I was right.
Poked around, wrote up 3 of the 3 bugs for today. Go me.
Then had the 10:30 meeting, and apparently we're starting over. Again! So she dolled out our assignments, for all the good they will do us. I got scan to sharepoint, so after lunch I sat and finished that. No new bugs written. Honestly, doing test cases at this point is pointless. But I guess it's something for us to do?
Had a little time, was reading Book 5 to make sure I didn't forget anything.
Came back, picked berries for like 40 minutes so there will be more pies in my future. Had pie. Had dinner.
Checked my sites, no new videos I wanted to watch, did a little reading.
Made one call, so I have a job tomorrow. Down by book guy, it's not far away. Security system, ugh, I hate those things.
Then worked on chapter 19, haven't written anything here at home in super long.
Finished it!
Tues:
Went full steam ahead on the print from USB service and got that finished. Nothing really new found, what a shock I know. I did reopen a bug though, about corrupt files hanging the system up.
Then put the new payment app on, hopefully to fix the fact we believe 5+5=11. Yes, we can't do math right. After 3 years. It's pathetic, it really is. (I think they're using float instead of double myself, I made the same mistake on the checkbook program.)
Then to a 3 hour torture session trying to get some cameras to work. He swore up and down that both the "main" system and the little handheld "window" were at one time working simultaneously. This, I now believe, was a flat out lie. The cameras seem to only want to connect to one thing. I should have given up earlier.
But I finally got home at 7:00 and made my one call. Helping get a printer back working. Very odd really, it was a Mac and it wouldn't see it no matter what I did. Even by IP address it was like "nope, not there." But I could get to the website built into the printer so I knew it was there. Finally got it to work by switching the port type to HP Line Printer or some nonsense. It worked, so whatever.
Checked my sites, watched a video or two. It was about 9:00. Going to get ready for tomorrow.
No writing tonight I guess. Maybe a little?
Nope.
Wed:
Moved from scan to print, another service I myself tested last, and only a little more than a month ago. Shock of shocks, nothing new found. Amazing, when they don't touch the code, no new bugs develop. How does that happen?
Could have resisted the temptation to write the next chapter. I mean did. Did resist. Yes.
Tomorrow I have the enviable task of going through 1/10 of the crappy 100 USED usb to ethernet adapters Xerox (in their infinite wisdom) have purchased to see if any fail. Gives me something new to do, I guess.
Went to wegmans, got a card for the wedding. It's silver!
Came back. Picked berries. Lots of hard little lumpy ones I just left. Sigh. But I have at least 4 pies worth now I think? I froze one batch to have room in my bucket. Should probably freeze more of them.
Rescued a caterpillar from the road, turned out to be Gypsy moth caterpillar. Ah well.

Checked my sites, ate dinner. Had two calls, the print shop guy is getting kicked out of the building for reasons he did not disclose, wants his HD changed so when he moves he wants me out to do that.
Other guy needed a new version of virtual box, something I set up for him years and years ago. A new version and some tweaks, as it still crashed when he opened it. But I got on his machine and straightened it out no problem.
Started chapter 21, you know, for something to do. And boom, it's about time for bed.
Week is going fast.
Thurs:
So is the tablet stuff winding down or not? Getting conflicting information here.
Anyway, got the 10 adapters tested. Guess how many failed? No go on, guess. Guess!
4 of the 10. Nice. Great purchase Xerox.
Then went on with the testing, found a new way out to the internet from the dropbox login page because we can't do code properly. Well, whatever, no one cares I guess.
It was meeting day, so had two meetings. Gina is out next week, but if the program is over anyway why do we need to have meetings?
Other stuff is coming I guess, they want me to do some vaguely defined stuff so that's fine. I'm sure it'll be less vaguely defined as time goes on.
At least I hope.
May have done a little writing? Who can say.
Back here I noticed something was different about the back yard and there was a lot of machinery noises from back there. The neighbor took out a couple of trees, which makes it look really weird. Will the rest fall? Probably, given her yard is just grass. No trees, no plants, nothing interesting at all. The complete opposite of mine. Well, I know where I'm planting those baby pine trees I have coming up.
[[image file="2018-07/p1016964.jpg" alt="hole where trees were" ]]
Seriously though, there are wires back there, so if I did they would have to be carefully managed.
Picked berries, but most of what is left is hard lumps. Froze some so that's at least two frozen ones for later, and I have probably another pie worth to decide if I should freeze it or not.
Checked my sites. My new drive came so I'm copying stuff and moving it around. See above. Fly my files, fly! Took about 3.5 hours to copy the first 2TB drive to the 4TB. It wasn't quite as full. The other may take a bit longer. I also slotted the 4TB drives into the enclosure and it picked them up. 8TB free. Nice. Hello new backup drives.
Two calls. The guy from yesterday with no backup, who lost his contacts and hoped I would just wish them out of the ether for him. Sorry, but I can't.
And car selling guy, with the usual I suppose. So that's Saturday at 11:00, probably the only job I'll do that day so I can go home and get ready for the wedding. I could do one at 9:00 or 9:30 I suppose.
Oh, and guess the weather report for Saturday afternoon? Rain, of course. Why not, it's been dry all week so naturally it would be raining the one day we don't want it to. Huh, the current picture is thunderstorms Sat-Tues of next week. Neat.
Looking to the future no Sean this week because wedding, then who knows Sunday. Tomorrow is the usual, shopping and seeing my parents. Still no bank, maybe I'll just deposit those checks with my iPad. I was thinking about that.
So that's the week. July is about half over, so think about that one. And summer is over, according to my grandfather.
[[image file="2018-07/p1016954.jpg" alt="bloom" ]]
See you next time.
