2017-08-04:

Fri:
Another day of not understanding where TLS 1.2 is hiding. Had a meeting with another person, no answers. Getting to be a theme.

Did a bit more tablet stuff, and a bit of proofreading.

Got to the bank, did the shopping, forgot the bag so went home. Hey, the gift arrived. The front is amazing! The back, eh, maybe I should reverse it? It should be a bit thicker too. Otherwise it could work.

Got the back, back out to my parent's house.

Back here I had dad over to watch the last 2 Dr Who and that was that. Checked my sites, got ready for tomorrow.

Still going to Sean's tomorrow to help with the deck, but no gaming. Something happened I guess. That's okay.

Sat:
Did some proofreading and then work on the gift. I think it'll look a lot better, and it got the "ok" mark despite it having "problems" before. I didn't change it that much. Oh well.

Out at 11:00 to see the car guy, cleaned all four of his laptops out. At least they all have SSDs, you're welcome past me.

Back here, ate lunch, watched some videos until it was time to leave for Sean's.

Got the rest of the deck floor torn up. Of course the weather would choose that exact time to be nice and sunny. Ha!

Watched a sort of odd zombie movie, where he zombies actually win? Wha?

And a cute little co-op spaceship controlling game. That was pretty fun.

Sun:
Up to hopefully finish the third book. Got to work at 10:00.

The chapter was finished at 5:00. Stupid combats with a dozen zombies. Why you take so long? Ten whole seconds in game time.

Wrote up the Epilog. That took until 5:30, making the final word count (before editing) 94,477. The previous one was 94,928 so with a bit of stretching, it can be longer. Whew.

Did the usual sunday stuff after that. Cleaned a little, got ready for tomorrow, made phone calls. Oh look, I've booked the entire week tonight. Two from last week, the woman in hilton and the outreach prison place. Then two tonight. So great.

Mon:
We got Gaseppe back! Yay! Just to be clear, that was-
Oh, you got it before? Anyway, he's baaaack.

Got a demo of the new… tablet? Sorta? Not much was really working. In fact they didn't really show us anything about it. So that was a thing.

Wrote up a few more things to write as bugs once I get the okay to do so.

Then went back to my lab. ThinPrint stuff isn't in the daily build, but I did update my test cases with the latest spec stuff. I may have done some proofreading, but you can't prove it.

Made the long drive to hilton, did a pretty standard cleanout. Her frontier connection was awful, taking about a half hour to get ccleaner and malwarebytes, a total of about a hundred megs. That should download in less than a minute.

Anyway, ran it, 210 things detected. How can you let it get so bad?

Got back here at 7:00, made my calls, and booked one for Saturday.

Put in the changes to volume 3. Ended with 96,020 words which does beat the previous by just a bit. Goal accomplished! Now to put them all on the e-reader and read them all again. If they pass again I can start on the covers and physical books.

Tues:
Little bit of both projects today. No build until tomorrow so nothing really serious got done but I teased out a few more bugs. Went to the thinprint meeting, no code there until at least another week, as the next demo is next friday. So I guess they need some time to get that last feature working.

Had a retirement party for a guy that wasn't there. Yup, the lab manager's last day was today, but HIS last day was yesterday. This is perfectly in character and what I would have done. He missed pizza and other yummies. Dummy. At least come for the food.

Went over to the outreach place, minor cleanup.

Back here ate dinner, checked my sites, watched a little Korra to think about the next stage in Lysainas' life but it's too early. Need to get the books done. Did more proofreading.

Also transferred files to a new laptop that had been dropped off.

Wed:
Prepare yourself for a very odd story a bit later. Are you prepared? You have some time, get prepared.

Now, at work we got the latest demo, which was a bunch of developers hooking their tablets up in sequence to show off tiny pieces of code work. I guess that's fine. We did get the new build, two different directives about writing bugs, and not many fixes in the new build. It's only been two weeks, but still.

So I mostly did tablet stuff, no new thinprint news.

Now for the odd story. I hope you are mentally prepared. I wasn't.
Long time readers may recall, or not, that some time ago I pulled into a house for sale while looking for a certain address. I forget if I wrote about this, but something made me get out of the car and take a look. It was a super nice house, with a very nice indoor pool (that was all torn up and had nasty water and a tear in the lining and weird stuff thrown into it.) I was lusting after the house, I think I looked up what they wanted for it.

Now fast forward today. I was approaching the same street and thinking "this street looks so familiar." Well, I pulled into the SAME house thinking "this is the house I was lusting after! This person is the same person I was looking for before? Couldn't be. But the house I am looking for…" Got out of the car to look at the house number. "…is this one. WAAAAAAAAAT?"
Yes, it was the indoor pool house. A long time customer of mine had bought a house I randomly stopped at and looked inside of. So crazy! They had fixed the pool up, it was a nice house. So bizarre though.

Lady came to get the laptop I did last night. Didn't sign the paperwork yet still managed to steal my pen? I mean, who does that? She filled out the top, and the pen was gone. Jerk.

Ate dinner, checked my sites. Did more proofreading. Finding a surprising number of typos, and some further dialog written in volume 2 as I realized they would have mentioned something that happened in volume 1. I'm not surprised about the typos, we still find them in Paragon and it's been around for years now.

Got a postcard in the mail from suncommon about signing up 100 people by the end of July 24th. Uh, I got this yesterday, July 31st. I think you missed it!

Thus:
Bug writing day I guess. After getting two different sets of instructions we decided to just go for it. So I wrote 15 bugs. The others started going through the database looking for older bugs still around from the staples program, and should they be brought forward into the new program? (Spoiler- yes, probably)

Anyway, that was fun. I mean testing is stupid, but bug writing is what it's all about.

Saw the two crazy ladies, got their issues solved. When you put the toner in for her printer and there's paper, it messes up? Huh? How did that get by QA? And I made some changes to her site, and answered questions.

Came back, checked sites, ate dinner, the usual. Rained pretty hard a little while ago. Haven't seen that before this year!

Made my calls, I now have four places to go Saturday, which will be a real treat let me tell you.

So let's look to the future, as usual for this portion of our entry. Tomorrow, write up all the bugs I didn't get to today. At 2:00 I have to go to the orthodontist, so I'll head there. On the way back I'll hit the bank I guess, not many checks though. Then I'll just stay a bit later as no parents this week. Hope they'll be selling lots! Then do the shopping, drop stuff off there, and come back here.

Saturday the four jobs, then maybe Sean's? Haven't heard one way or the other at this time.

Then probably more proofreading on Sunday. Gotta finish books!

I did finish proofing Volume 1, so I started making it into book form. My goodness that's boring. Anyway, didn't get too far, but I made a start. That's all you can do. Make a start, do the work in the middle, then finish. Right?

Anyway, welcome to August, don't let it fool you, fall is peaking around the corner saying "is it time to come out and play yet?"

See you all next week.
