Fri:
More moving type activities at work today. Moving machines around, putting plastic over everything, boxing stuff up. The whole works.
I may or may not have accidentally finished Out of the Flood at 82,521 words. How did that happen? Now to proofread. I like all the characters, but I wanted Everest to be more of a know it all. I didn't make that come through enough, have to do some edits.
The lab is pretty torn apart now, but the machine I primarily use is staying behind. This means I'm staying behind I guess. We'll see how it works out.
Went to the bank, went shopping, and then over to see about the wi-fi issue. Stupid windows, it's just windows being stupid. I think she'll continue to have problems with the one. oh well.
Wasn't far from my parent's house so I checked up on everybody and came back here.
Got the tiny laptop I ordered as a replacement for my XP era briefcase laptop, so I got that up and running. Made beans for tomorrow.
One call, importing pictures and showing her how to make a new folder. It's the "new folder" button. It's right there. See it? Right there. There it is. Right- you found it.
Sat:
Went to feed everybody, did so! Gabe turned his nose up at food? Awful picky for a cat that thin. Odd.
Did not have to sit as 10.12 downloaded, she had already done it the day before! Yay! Did have to set for 2 hours as the person redoing their website explained she was redoing their website. Apparently they had two different ideas about what that meant.
But we finally got that straightened out and I could come home.
Ate lunch.
Messed about, thought about continuing the Out of the Flood story with another volume, basically splitting it into two stories, one where he becomes a wanderer and the other where he stays. I just like the characters and have set up a few things for down the road for my main character. I guess we'll see.
Delayed leaving by an hour and played some FF3, Sean's mower slipped a belt and he was trying to fix it.
Did the Shadowrun game. Didn't contribute much, but then the mission was fairly simple and nothing really went wrong.
Hopefully it's just a setup for something to go further wrong at some point in the future.
Sun:
Got up and went over to feed everybody, then back here to eat lunch and then over to set up the iMac. Yes, I got up fairly late, sue me.
Setting up the Mac went smoothly, it copied everything from the backup as it is supposed to.
Came back here and watch a bunch of stuff Sean gave me.
Talked to the iMac guy a bunch of times because he had stupid questions.
Two calls. One cleanout (I guess, she gave some "oh it's virus" spiel and I didn't get further details) and the lady I just saw a couple of weeks ago that I thought had the registry password. Remember the one, with the iTunes gift cards? Yeah, her. She somehow got the registry password back on. She claims the machine has been off for a week and she hasn't spoken to anybody but who knows.
So that's tomorrow and Tuesday! Yay!
Time to get ready for bed.
Mon:
So did we make the big move? We sure did!
Only took about half the morning, somewhat surprising given the amount of stuff but there where three movers and they got it all done.
So now I'm all alone. They moved the 60-70 machines into place, or at least into the room. They're still all wrapped up. He's going to unwrap them tomorrow and make sure he got everything. I moved my machine over to where I am and put myself even more in the corner than I already was.
Started the whole test sequence again. Didn't find anything new, but did find they fixed one thing so that's good.
Just continuing tomorrow, I guess.
Went out though the really bad rain to the afternoon appointment. She had some weird network settings, let me tell you. Got that straightened out and ran the usual stuff.
Coming home was very slow. Two traffic lights out and an accident on 104 made the trip take about twice as long.
Ate dinner, checked my sites.
Did some dishes and tried to figure out why Ulysses was not opening on the laptop. If I throw away the preferences files and say no to not auto updating, it works fine. Weird.
Still thinking about next steps for Lysanias.
Got 5 phone calls for today. Where were you people last week? Didn't reach one, booked Wednesday, one person I'm pretty sure I can help over the phone. One person supposed to call me back. One person dropping it off. Sheesh.
Tues:
Ended on a sour note.
Did more testing at work. Even wrote up a new bug, or really an extension of a bug already there. May have accidentally typed a bunch of words that, taken together, comprise 2/3 the first chapter of the next Lysanias book? It happens. I think I have enough plot ideas for the whole thing, but of course we'll see.
Paul got the machines out of their packaging. So many machines.
Was pretty much by myself the whole afternoon.
Left work, went to see the lady about her encrypted registry. It was encrypted all right! Reloaded it while I was there. Figured that would be faster than bringing it back here and doing it. She didn't get any updates, but too bad so sad.
It was just 7:00 so I began my 2 hour and 45 minute journey of calling people from yesterday. The first one was moving the profile as the tips read about yesterday did not work. It still gave her an error message when she logged in, but only on one account. Great job, MS, as usual.
The other call, and yes there were no new calls today but just the two from yesterday, was about programs no longer working in Win10 that used to. Really! Quickbooks won't work on one but will on the other (2009) and Print Shop 21 won't work on one but will the other. Good old MS, keeping everyone on their toes.
So I ate a hasty dinner at 9:45 and now it's time for bed.
Yay?
The guy dropped his machine off, didn't even get to look at it.
Tomorrow is just setting up the modem day, so hopefully I should get back here swiftly (it's even on the way home, yay) and get to that.
Wed:
Got an email about my internet speed changing, actually getting a consistent 20mb/s now. Neat. It's not greenlight, but I guess 20 is better than 15, right?
More testing at work, but nothing changed. More machines were set up by Paul, he's got the ones he's tested marked by taping the config page to the front. Supposedly the B series of machines, the black only ones have had their loss of network problem fixed. We'll see what machine we can get on tomorrow and if that's true.
May have accidentally written more words that completed chapter 1 and chapter 2 of the new story. I may not have though.
Went to set up the new modem, took out her router, got that done.
Came back to look at the PC that got dropped off yesterday. Very odd issue, Windows 10 or 8 wouldn't boot. BUT windows 7 would? Huh? Tried 8 from the CD, 10 from the CD and the flash. And of course the SSD. Nothing. But 7 booted just fine.
Updated the BIOS (from 2007) to the latest (2009, sigh) and it started booting just fine. Weird.
No calls, but the iMac guy called about 4 times. Did not get a new job for tomorrow.
Thurs:
Lots of actual work today at work. As promised, I worked on the black only product. Flew through the test cases, honestly I've been performing them endlessly now for months, so I'm pretty good at them. Ran into the same issue where it reboots and takes a self assigned IP. So that bug is not fixed.
Otherwise didn't find anything. It ships I guess on the 25th so we're in good shape for it.
Mitch emailed me like "can you start on the test plan for this thing we've vaguely defined and you know nothing about? Great, ktnksbye"
I was like, uh, no? No I can't? Apparently the company that wanted us to do this work, which is a minor change to our software I believe, didn't sign the paperwork that they would actually pay us for the effort. So, yeah. Also there are no specs, so I have nothing to test TO. If all this sounds somewhat familiar it's what I went through when starting the AT&T project. So business as usual I guess?
We're meeting about it tomorrow, maybe I'll get some more answers then.
Did put in the edits for Volume 1 the last half hour after the meeting today. One more proofread of that should be okay I figure.
Came back home, ate dinner, got ready for tomorrow.
Rainy and cold, won't even be near 60 for many days.
Two calls, so I have a very busy Saturday coming up. 4 appointments. Oh and plugging in a fax machine because the last man on the Earth with dial up finally got cable internet and now his fax doesn't work. Baby steps, we go with baby steps.
That's tomorrow after work, he's just down the street and I figure it won't take more than a second.
No Sean this week I guess.
So upcoming, tomorrow is the meeting about the next feature I'll be testing in the morning then ??? in the afternoon. Going to the bank, shopping, and then my parent's house as usual.
Then the four jobs saturday and nothing for Sunday as of yet.
Looks like it's going to rain the next four days so that'll be nice.
Anyway, may the forth be with you, enjoy your Cinco De Mayo if that's the kinda thing you dig, and I'll see you all next week.
