Fri:
Finished up the minor ending admin tests at work, emailed Susan about the bug I had written up and did more research. Turns out if you do one thing on the machine, it works like it should. But if you do another, unrelated thing, it doesn't. So weird.
Went to the bank, put more money into IRA and then did the shopping.
Had dinner with my parents, and then my mother did my taxes until 9:00. Sorry about depreciation mom! Thanks a lot for your hard work.
Came back here, installed the other video card and played around with super resolution. I don't know if I see a difference or not?
Sat:
Got set up to start writing the big battle, but kept finding bugs.
So instead of writing I fixed bugs all morning, and finally got it set up correctly and the battle runner works as I want. It wasn't all bugs, it was a bit of feature enhancement too. Still, was somewhat annoying to think I had it all done and then see, oops, something else didn't work.
My one call from yesterday just hung up, so fine. Didn't have to call them back.
Ate lunch, decided to play fallout some more. Why is it so crashy? It loves to crash when I'm going through a door. Grrrrr. I'll write tomorrow.
Left for Sean's. We stayed mostly on track, but we did not get to the adventure we were supposed to. We spent the night fighting a single monster and I played up my magic paranoia to the max. Good times.
Sun:
Got up a little late, but got straight to work finishing Chapter 271. Watched Eragon and Stardust, and of the two I liked Stardust better. Wonder why? It's odd, when two things that are good why is one judged to be better? Could I really point to one thing or another and say 'oh that's it, that's the thing that makes this one better.' ? I don't think so. But what make a work good, that's something mysterious to me.
Wrote a bunch of Chapter 272 in the evening, it was a long combat, taking a chapter and a half to finish. But they're down in the hallway leading to the prison now so it won't be long.
No calls today, and one hang up yesterday, so I made no calls. Get to come back home on time tomorrow. Finish up my taxes so I can get them sent out.
Did do a little cleaning, have to clean the mouse now and the cat boxes. Then bedtime.
Mon:
Not too much to tell about work today. I did actually write a new bug though, maybe two if memory serves. I was verifying bugs were fixed and ran across some new things.
Came back here, ate dinner, got the laptop ready because I had received it. Checked my sites, wrote Sean a long email about the mages guild, got ready for tomorrow, and finally wrote a bit.
Finished Chapter 272 and half 273. Susan finally comes face to face with her father. And someone else she didn't expect. Spoilers!
Tues:
More of the same, but we did have a meeting about some future code. Looked at more closed bugs (I'm around 110 total now) and looked into future stuff to test. Oddly the AT&T code wasn't working so I erased the machine and put everything back. Then it worked. Weird.
Came back here after going to the vet and the post office. The vet's office is all different now, they renovated the place. The post office, eh it was the same. Got my taxes sent in. Yay.
Ate dinner, finished Chapter 273. The final fight, Susan vs her dad and (spoiler). Got though every character's first action in Chapter 274, and it's going to be a very, very, tough fight for our heroines.
Made a few calls, worked on the PC that was dropped off. Ran the usual stuff on it, didn't see what he was talking about. Have a job tomorrow, a machine not turning on. Then at 6:00 is Squeaker's vet appointment. The job is just off browncroft, so it's not far and I would have to come this way anyway.
Still, going to be a busy afternoon tomorrow.
Wed:
Nothing new at work, though Mitch was asking about how testing was going and told Don I could probably work on something else. He didn't come see me though, so I don't know if there is anything else at the moment.
Found a weird bug right before I left. If the machine is in power saver mode it can't change certain settings. It shows a page to wake it up. But this one area wanted a page with a different extension on the end, so I just got a message about the page not being available. I'll write that up tomorrow.
Went to my after work job. It was a laptop, not a desktop, so thanks for clarifying despite the several times I asked you because your story kept changing. Tore the thing apart and looked at the button. Didn't really see why it wasn't depressing the actual power button underneath it. (It was depressing me) I tore the plastic "button" off and she'll just have to hit the real button herself.
Then took Squeaker in. Still doing okay, though with his heart thing they don't want to risk doing his teeth. At least they aren't too bad yet. Maybe I should get some of that stuff you put in their water to help with that.
Came back here, ate dinner. Checked sites, worked on chapter 274 and made calls. One for Sunday, if she doesn't take it to best buy because I can't come immediately. Sorry lady, you needed a machine that worked, should have gotten a Mac. And I only do this part time now, so…
Got a call from a lady with a new scam I've never heard of. I guess it's been common for a few years now though. Some "HP" rep called her and showed her "virus" activity on her machine (and conveniently encrypted the registry, thanks again MS for that fun little bit of software trickery). Then to make matters worse, she actually drove to a store, bought 100$ worth of iTunes gift cards, yes, you read that right, and then dutifully called this scammer back and told them the numbers on the back.
Of course now her computer is useless because she don't know the password, and I have to go (this sunday, always loved working Sunday) and see if he erased the backups of the registry or I get the fun hours and hours of work reloading her machine.
Honestly, iTunes gift cards? These scammers are insane. But look at that, it worked! You convinced an old woman that somehow paying "HP" with an iTunes gift card was a thing. At least she doesn't have to cancel her credit card, so that's a plus right?
She's getting a call from Apple (because they won't give out a phone number for some bizarre reason?) and hopefully at the very least they can freeze the number so while she might not get the money back, at least the scammers won't get it either. In the brief read I had about this that's about all they can do. Which is about right, actually, what else could they do?
Huh, only Apple makes out in this situation. They get a free $100. This doesn't seem right to me, does it seem right to you?
Answered an email from a guy. "My mouse seems to be acting up."
"So try a different mouse."
"Hey I tried a different mouse. It's fine now."
"OH REALLY? WHAT A SHOCK!"
Really coludn't have figured that out on your own?
What am I being punished for? It must be something, there's no other explanation. Maybe I should figure it out... on my own.
Thurs:
Came in to work, verified the updates had gone in that morning, was writing up the bug from yesterday. Noticed something odd. Hey, the new code is finally in!
So I spent most of today going over that. Only one difference between the older and newer machines thank goodness. You can get to a page differently, and it doesn't redirect to being https. Hopefully easy to solve?
Left at 4:00, drove a half hour. Stupid windows 10, this machine is so slow. Spent an hour and a half going over it, there's no problems. But oh look, updates are failing. That's odd.
One of them was a video driver. Okay, I try it manually. It gives me an error about registry corruption or something. Google it. Great, let's reload widows!
So I got back at 7:00 just in time to make phone calls. Another Saturday and another Sunday. So great. By the way when I write things like "so great" can you tell I'm being sarcastic? Should I use a different font? Let me know. I want to be clear.
Got home and there was a laptop on my breezeway with this rambling note (handwritten) like I have time to decode that crap. Doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it though. I'll call him when the mbam scan is done.
Anyway, get to reload win10, her stuff is copying off now. Then I get to copy it back. Yay.
Huh, he isn't on the internet? That's weird, thanks for telling me you couldn't update, mbam. He wants an SSD too, gee, people are getting fed up with how slow windows is, what a shock. So I'll just reload windows onto that instead of cloning the drive, get rid of his ip problem. It works fine in safe mode with networking, so it's something bizarre. As usual.
The copy is done and win10 is reloaded on the desktop. Guess that went better then expected? AT least I got it finished, no writing today though.
So tomorrow: Work??? Then shopping, no bank I only have one check to mail out. Then seeing my parents.
Saturday is at least two jobs and then maybe Shadowrun at last? Or more likely my game. Calling the sewing lady, see if she needs me the next day. Shoot, I forgot to get back to ms. iTunes gift card scammed lady, she was suppose to call me back yesterday but didn't. I wanted to make sure 10:00 was okay, we sort of left it as Apple was calling her. Well, tomorrow I guess.
Then Sunday more work, probably her, maybe sewing lady, and someone down off Klem at 1:00 with a printer issue. So fun.
Maybe in-between I'll finally get to finish Susan's Chronicles? Doesn't look good for this weekend though.
Well, stay warm everyone, spring isn't here yet. See you in April.
