2017-03-10:
Fri:
About the same as the week on the whole. Didn't get the pre-release so still just waiting around.
Sean texted that he wasn't feeling well, so we probably won't be getting together this week either. That isn't my fault!
Went shopping, didn't need to go the bank or get cat food, so just went over to my parent's house. Had dinner there, then came back here and worked on Chapter 258. One call, the bath guy who says his password doesn't work anymore. So reset it, fool!
Going there tomorrow morning.
Sat:
Got up at the normal time, did the normal things, and started chapter 259. (Normally)
Went out to the bath place. He told me the wrong password to get into his machine so I believed he didn't know it. I tried to reset it using the back door cmd method from the ease of access (or whatever it's called) but discovered he was a network user? Huh? You have like three PCs, why do you need a domain controller? So stupid.
Well he finally told me the right password so I got into it. Changed his email password, and took his phone with me to get on his home wireless. He had the right password, he really couldn't have managed typing it in? *shakes head*
Came back, worked on 259 more, ate lunch, more writing. More important than that, perhaps, is figuring out what I want to happen instead of the Bleach plot. I basically accelerate it and do way less combat.
New tray isn't bothering me at all. Is this thing even working?
Watched an anime about zombie vampires attacking a train. No really.
Sun:
What a wonderful day. It was still snowy outside, but I stayed indoors.
Worked and and finished Chapter 260 and 261. Nice.
Not much else to report. That's 60 episodes of the anime in like six chapters. Huh, that works out to something but I'm not sure what. That's division or something, right?
Mon:
Back to doing work at work? What a concept.
However it turned out that the "delay" was mere illusion, as they were supposed to be taking extra time to finish fixing one bug. But they actually chose the version from Thursday, a day before the deadline, for the release. Huh?
Well, I put that version on all the machines (rolling back at least one because I had gone past that date already) and started the full test again. Didn't get too far into it as I only started in the afternoon, but I'm testing various machines so if something broke on one I'll see it.
No job after work, so I came back to work on Chapter 262. Got it almost finished. Not sure if I want to do the "filler" stuff from Bleach.
Not many calls, but I booked tomorrow and 11:00 saturday.
Sean isn't feeling better, says he's feeling worse actually. Sorry!
Tues:
We're on a roll, more work at work. They want me to do a full test on like four models. That's not mind numbingly boring at all!
In any case, I got the first go through nearly done. Just the "erase" stuff that takes a half an hour per test to go. Then I can start over!!!!! ????
After work job was resetting someone's password on their live account. Because people really want to log into their computers using a network account.
Or wait, no they don't. In fact that's a terrible idea. Changed her password to what it was in her book, but it said "you can't use one you've used in the past" so I tried to log in with it. Nope, didn't work. Grr. Finally did get it changed though, and worked out her ebay password as well. (Thank you browser history, she was trying to order some stencil thing and couldn't tell me where she actually saw it. Sigh)
Got back here, ate dinner, checked sites. One call, so I have tomorrow booked. Cleanout and moving her stuff to another machine she doesn't like as much because it has a black keyboard.
Thought about the next arc for Luna. It's tough because the whole show timeskips basically everything but the fights, which go on for hundreds of episodes. But I wanted her in the Bleach universe so she could figure out why wands choose their owners. I'll think of something.
I thought of stuff!
Wed:
Such wind. No power. Down trees.
Yes, wind was the subject of the day. Many trees were taken down, but it was only branches at my place. Xerox lost power near the end of the day, so we all went home early. I had been testing up to that point, and we gave a demo of the new stuff to the support people. They had some good questions and concerns were raised.
I've at least done one full test. I was getting through a second on another machine when we lost power. I'm fairly concerned, like the PC monitor was on, but the PC itself wasn't turning on. And some of our printers (like a bunch of them) were on the same wall strip as one that was running, but it wasn't going on at all. Yipes.
We'll see what tomorrow brings.
Went out to see the lady with the ancient laptop and newer laptop. Ancient laptop had some variant of webroot security on it. Which I couldn't interact with or remove, apparently? Some kind of web thing? Finally managed to get rid of it, perk the machine up a bit. Got her pictures transferred and found her a white overlay for the keyboard on the new machine. (Black keys, older people hate that, and it's all you've got unless you buy a Mac. So weird.)
That took far longer than it should have, and I got back here to eat dinner. Checked my sites, just one call, the car guy. Something about his office printer.
Thurs:
I lied, we would not see what tomorrow brings. At work anyway, because the buildings were still closed because of power issues. Tomorrow too, so it must be pretty bad. The email said "Only office work is permitted. No production operations, no lab operation and no testing operations." I guess they're worried about power surges? That's why I turned everything in the lab off. Hope it's enough and they aren't already fried.
So what did I do today? If you have to read the next sentence to know, you have not been reading this blog long enough. Go back to the beginning and start over.
I wrote, duh.
A also paid $7.50 for a copy of Cities: Skylines because I do recall enjoying simcity in "my youth." I figure at that price, I'll play it eventually and even if I only play it a few hours, it would be worth it. Have to finish the story first though.
Got through chapters 263 and part of 264. Going well, the script is cooperating and I haven't needed to change it any major way.
Went out to my one job, which was totally pointless. Haven't been to his workplace in a while, it was even more crowded with junk and filth than before. Neat! Can you say… hoarder? I knew you could. He wanted his new printer, that's next to another printer, that is next to another printer hooked up the wireless. I ask, where is the router. He says, right here. But it's getting changed tomorrow to time warner.
SO WHY AM I HERE TODAY FOOL?
He wanted his stupid on time thing moved, you know the thing I carefully wrote directions to the last time I saw him. He was still trying to use dropbox, a service that has not supported XP for more than a year now, if not longer. I'm glad I printed the directions, again, and brought them.
And his most ancient printer has clogged nozzles. What a shock. Why do you have all these printers? Get ONE laser printer. ONE. One and DONE. Not two. Not three. ONE. He has three laptops there, the ancient one still running on time, another that does ??? and the third his "personal" one (I guess?)
Dude, you only need one. It's a laptop, just pick it up. Take it with you. Then you don't have to keep going back and forth with this stupid database of yours. AARG.
So I get to go back tomorrow after RR comes. Yay.
Came back, ate dinner, you know the rest.
Probably go to the bank tomorrow, shopping of course. Hopefully get gas, the pumps were closed at the place I stopped at, and then I had to turn around because they were getting trees out of the road or something. Sheesh, you would think there had been a huge wind storm or something recently.
Go see my parents, and come back here.
No calls today, so one for Saturday and then Pyre. I guess Stan got a new cat, so he canceled Saturday, so Sean tried the others and they said sure. So that was that. Not sure why new cat= can't spend time with friends but okay.
By next week it'll be an hour earlier and I'll be older. So… much… older. Like, a week older.
Hope everyone has power out there. If you don't how are you reading this? See you next week.
