2017-02-03:
Fri:
Nothing too exciting at work. I did get the preview build that had the fixes we were expecting. This does solve the biggest problem we had, that of the erase data feature. Now if it gets into the main build and we get the log stuff, we'll be in good shape. Of course our release date is quickly approaching…
Did the usual stuff after work, got through the bank and aldi with speed. No orange juice? Weird.
Nice dinner with my parents, then came back here.
Several calls, reached the lady for the PC and she wants it, sigh, sunday. Fine. Nothing new for tomorrow afternoon, talked someone through installing office 2016 on a mac and more stupid ACT stuff.
That one took an hour and a half. Turns out the thing he was looking for was sorted by time of email, not time of performing the action. So we were both looking for something that was working JUST FINE. Great!
And then it's time for bed. Grr.
Sat:
As expected, the three in the morning passed like a gentle spring rain. Of course there were some snowflakes along the way but what can you do?
Checked out the laptop which it turned out was booting fine. Ran RAM test, HD test, mbam, everything said it was just hunky dory. So… yeah.
Then over to the next one. It was just dropbox being weird. For some reason it was bringing up some error message when it was opened. I just removed it, doesn't work on XP anyway.
Then past my house to hook up the printer, which was that simple. I plugged it in. That was it. She said she wasn't online but she was. And I signed her into Netflix.
Sean texted and said we were on for today, so way to leave that to the last second.
Got ready for tomorrow, watched a little Macross Delta.
Went out to Sean's. Sadly it was another case of "no one but Robert has made characters" so I did a few tweaks, and worked on the next chapter. Got it about half done. They were not quite finished when we all left at 11:00.
Sun:
Got up somewhat late for current me, and went to deliver the PC. This was followed by me driving home again because whoops, I forgot to get the tiny receiver for her wireless mouse/keyboard. Stupid thing. Drove that back and then set up the wireless adapter I had bought for her granddaughter.
Came back, watched some Supernatural to make sure their The Darkness was compatible with mine, I suppose it can be. Got the other PC loaded up. Did a bit of housework. Got the 2 for 1 burritos and shamelessly ate one for lunch. Didn't feel the need to eat dinner. (Yes, they are that huge) So I'll have the second for lunch tomorrow.
A few calls, not many. Probably a very easy one tomorrow she has moved back in with her mother (which I'm sure thrilled them both to pieces) and she needs the wireless adapter she bought hooked up. I just plugged the one I bought in and it worked instantly. So what could be with this one I don't know.
Got ready for tomorrow, and looked to February.
Mon:
Completely worthless at work today. Shhhhh don't tell anyone.
The feature was supposed to be in by the 27th, hey guess what? It wasn't. So who knows at this point. Maybe tomorrow. At least my script to update the machines overnight is still working a treat.
Worked on a list of stuff to do when I got home (that was pretty long actually) and cleaned up the livecode template I want to post.
After work job was interesting. She had some "phantom" USB wireless adapter that windows "couldn't start" but it wasn't plugged in that I could see. It was an all in one machine, maybe it's internal? Anyway, sold her the other one I had ordered and that was that.
Came back here, did a bunch of stuff off the list like figuring out a valentines day (or as I like to call it, Forever Alone Day) gift for Mom, wrapped my father's birthday gift, updated my bankbook, posted for book guy on his blog as he sent the password again, etc.
Hour long phone call trying to figure out where 7+ GB was hiding on a google drive. Turns out it has a trash? Weird. But there it was. Bizarre, did not expect that.
And answered a question for another person, wanted to connect her PC and her TV, but they're not really that close together. So she could pirate movies. Really? So I gave her the options.
No work for tomorrow! Snowed most of the day but it cleared off in the evening.
Tues:
Hey, guess what I didn't get! A build with the new feature to test? Exactly.
I got A build with it in, but one I couldn't use that day. The afternoon we used my machines for trying to replicate an AT&T problem they're seeing. Couldn't. Chris was doing most of the work, he knows way more about the domain stuff than I do. Groups and whatnot.
But I'll have plenty to do tomorrow, as I got the correct machine reserved for the code so it can go right in once I get there.
Came back here, no calls? Wow. Surprising. Watched almost all the rest of Supernatural, my version will be a bit different I think.
Finally took the broken lights off my little tree and put some new ones on for next year. Only took me a month. Ugh, it's one down, eleven to go already. How did that happen?
Oh, also baked biscuits. Important to know that.
Wed:
I have actual work to report today!
Yes, got the build loaded and took the morning to run through the test cases. Sent a list of, I think it was twenty things I noticed that were wrong. The manager of the project didn't want bugs written just yet.
Chris worked on the slow login problem, didn't get anywhere.
I worked on trying to reproduce a bug using that stupid fiddler software. Couldn't do it. If I log in at the built in admin account, it works fine. Changing just that, the name and password, makes it fail. But not in the way that it fails if I put the incorrect username or password in. No, it fails differently. Why?
I have no clue.
Finished the last Supernatural, ate dinner, and finished Chapter 242. The Darkness got what it wanted from that world, and Susan is on to the next one. Getting close to the end. "Close."
One call, but he's dropping it off so I don't have anyplace to go tomorrow. Hasn't been this slow in a long time. Not complaining.
Happy Birthday to my father. Sorry our family tradition of doing things on the Friday after they happen means I don't see you on this, National Freedom Day. Freedom from what, I wonder? Not clothes, it's too cold.
Started chapter 243. I figure, maybe another year, wrap this story up finally, maybe play some games I have piling up before I start on the next one. (Which I have already started to write in my head. Pity me.)
Thurs:
And we're back… to being useless. Started poking around the new feature again to see if there was anything I missed, and immediately found another thing to send to the developers. Well, they wrote back a bit later and said some of the stuff I mentioned was working for them.
Thinking "where have we heard this before?" I went in to see what "mode" that IE was in, and turns out it was in "7" mode instead of "edge" mode. Because that's a thing. How it's a thing when I'm using 7 which doesn't have edge I'll never know. But they were right! The stuff I saw that wasn't working started working. How about that.
But we should get the feature for realz tomorrow so let's hope so.
Helped Chris a little with the whole slow network logging in thing, but we didn't get very far.
Wrote up some notes for "out of the flood" a working title for my next series.
Figuring out what worlds to go to, that sort of thing.
Yeah, nothing too exciting. Hopefully tomorrow though!
Got back, a few calls today. Took a look at the laptop that got dropped off. Not a thing wrong with it. If you don't count running McAfee and a 1.6Ghz processor "wrong." I do, but that's a different story.
Called him back, called the others. Have to go see about a wireless connection at a place I recently was on Saturday morning. Answered questions for two people and didn't reach another. May be a quiet weekend.
Tomorrow plan, the usual yet again. Bank, shopping, get cat food, and see my parents.
No news from Sean as of yet, so it may be a very quiet weekend indeed as I have only the one thing so far. Writing?
Happy February, dig in for the, uh, shortest month. Yeah.
