2017-01-06:
Seriously though, he's shooting for 18 months, and a very reasonable $6000 for the job. Sigh.
That's more than half what I paid for the car! Good thing we get that christmas bon- oh wait.
Went into work, rebooted the printers about 40 times each to make sure they came up each time. Ran into the red screen of not being able to come up twice, and one very odd situation where it hung, and then recovered, and then showed jobs in the cart that didn't exist anymore, and it didn't time out anymore. Oh well.
Out to the bank. Snowing very heavily, was quite nasty out.
Got the certified check for the dental work. Still need to go over to the brighton office to have the 3D scan done of the teeth. Then they can send away for the overlays. This takes a month. So with luck I can enjoy June 2019 with straightened teeth.
Got to my parent's house after shopping. Did you know they make vegetarian baked beans? Looks like I can accommodate Kate after all.
Had a nice dinner and came back here. Worked over the phone with a few people, and told a lady to make sure her machine was plugged in (it wasn't) so I didn't make any new work for tomorrow. Yes! Started the dish, cooked the bacon and chopped the onion. I'll need to make two, one without the meat, but that shouldn't be a problem.
Was too late to finish tonight, it would have been 11:00 by the time it finished. As I have the morning I'll do it then.
Need a new water heater? The top is all wet! It's leaking I guess. I mailed an expert I trust some pictures and turned it off. Just what I needed.
Watched an episode of Lost Girl.
Sat:
Big thank you to my father who came and installed my new water heater. It was leaking out the top the night before so we went and got another one. It was from the mid 90s so I doubt it owed me anything.
Finished up just in time to leave for the job. It was an odd one. Apparently he had hired someone else to investigate some issue and they sold him a new drive? And then didn't really do any setup so the machine was still useless. So I had to do the normal setup stuff. I checked his old drive, and it still spun up and I could copy off it. So what was wrong with it? Moron.
Once that was done I went over to Sean's. We got quite silly playing Snake Oil at the end, probably because of the lateness of the hour.
Sun:
Didn't do much, watched more lost girl. So many episodes!
Basically enjoyed a day off.
Mon:
Got some things done today though.
Cleaned the mouse. Did more house straightening. Moved the stuff on the calendar forward to this year. Tried to set up linux on my larger flash drive. My PC just locks up trying to boot it. CD or flash. One of the junk ones boots but wigs out and hangs. One of them is 32bit. So not having much luck.
Did the paperwork. I did less business this year than I did in 2003. The year I STARTED the business. Half of what I did last year. Wild.
Sent in my estimated tax, and have probably still sent far too much to them.
Finished Lost Girl season 2.
Spent an hour and a half on the phone with the guy from Saturday, because when asked "is there anything else?" did not reply "could you make sure the printer works?" but said "nope!" Naturally the windows add printer "wizard" couldn't find it, so I assumed it wasn't connected to the wireless. No, it was, it just had a weird IP address. Usually I assign .50 but that one had .51???? But I finally got the lexmark software downloaded and he managed to install it.
Quickly called my other people back, another printer issue. That one seems to have an IP but I couldn't talk to it. Only 9 months old, she's calling best buy about it. And I didn't reach two others. Oddly, I have nothing for tomorrow!
Just back to the daily grind.
Tues:
Turns out the ID change is the gift that keeps on giving. Couldn't get into the place in the morning, and it didn't work for the lab across the hall either. Super.
Had to get that taken care of before I left.
Pretty boring at work, nothing new to test. Loaded the AT&T stuff but apart from a few bugs I verified are now fixed, the new log feature has yet to be added.
Stayed late. I'm going to the Brighton office for my scan on Thursday at 3:00, so I figure stay late tonight when I have no second job, and I can put 8 hours into every day.
Set my alarm early for tomorrow, I'll go drop the check off so that's done. Don't know how late they're open, so better to get it done early I guess. Where did the card go I was using for the directions? I lost a bookmark somewhat mysteriously too just recently. Odd.
Ate dinner, had enough time to watch one episode of JoJo's before I made phone calls.
Got the replacement 250GB HDs. Looking at them I see the one is 9 years old, and the other is 10 years old! Great! The old ones were 7. Gee, wonder why they failed?
Mailed the company to return them. Morons.
Booked the rest of the week and one for Saturday. Didn't realize the orthodontist was quite that far away. Apparently Brockport is 40 minutes away! That means Thursday I have to leave work at 2:10, get there by by 3:00, then drive another 40 minutes to my appointment, then 30 minutes home. Yay!
Didn't reach book guy.
Ordered the replacement drives for the replacement drives for the replacement drives. And a 500GB for another person who had his backup drive fail.
Let's hope it's newer than 10 years old.
Wed:
A bit of hope on the horizon. They want me back on AT&T as it's supposedly going to start heating up again. Funny how that worked. So I spent today trying to load software on a machine that it was never going to load on, getting it on the machine it was supposed to load on (it failed… but succeeded?) and having a meeting.
Turns out the machine that's right next to me can be fitted with an intel board instead of PPC so the software would work that way? But we have one machine (the so called next gen machine) already available, so I got that one to sort of work. The UI looks so funny, like it was done by a kid or something. But I have to admit it's a bit faster than what I'm used to.
Otherwise the new features are not ready yet, so tomorrow I'll be diving back in, making sure the changes they made to the older product got carried over properly to the newer.
Went out to my after work work. Her router keeps resetting every couple of minutes. Correction, her modem/router. She has about 30+ wireless networks in range. Yes, I counted. Is that causing her problems? The Mac was going bananas, all 4 processors pegged at 100% when the wireless was on. Not good. I fiddled with the settings and got that to go away (the router settings) but it was still dropping every few minutes. Of course the thing is in the most inconvenient place possible so there's no way to run a cable to both? her laptops? and turn the wireless off. Pick a laptop and stick with it! (The Mac, duh) Not sure what she can do in that situation.
Came back here, ate dinner, and then made phone calls. Booked Saturday. Yay.
Tomorrow is the fun driving day. I get to leave work early! Who cares! I have 110 minutes of driving to look forward to before I get home! I want to write another sentence that ends with an exclamation point! I did it! That was another! And another! When will it end?! That was too-
Thurs:
Well I made it through somehow.
Due to a couple of bugs I didn't get quite as much testing done as I would have liked. First of all every time you reboot the machine it thinks it wants to update itself, leading to a 15+ minute romp that goes nowhere. So I didn't test anything that required a reboot because four tests and hour seems a bit, uh, not enough.
And I couldn't do any CWW testing because it doesn't know what the printer is, so it can't work with it. Oops.
But I did what I could, and I should be able to get through Admin Disablement tomorrow.
Left early to have the scan done. Told them about the check, they found it and applied it to my account so that's not a worry. The scan didn't take long. Basically just a camera on a stick she pushed deep into my mouth again and again like a thick, throbbing wand.
A magic… wand. Magic.
And just like magic, a 3D model of my teeth appeared. It was super effective. It basically took a 3D scan of each tooth from various angles and stitched the whole thing together with what can only be a metric butt ton of math.
Got to my job an hour early, and thank goodness. Her new laptop was quite slow, her wireless kept turning itself off, and the printer was ancient and didn't have 10 support. Sigh.
But I finally got home at 7:00, just in time to get to my phone calls. Only one, some windows live mail error that I finally gave up on and installed Thunderbird. Because screw you, MS. Yeah, I typed it.
Got to eat dinner at 8:30 (yes it took that long, more of that "patience" stuff I guess?) and then got ready for tomorrow.
My appointment to have the trays put in is Feb 17th, I should have all the chocolate the ladies give me eaten by then.
Wait…
1:30, which is the "last" appointment. Guess they like to go home early. Ah well, A half hour extra M-Thurs and an hour early on Friday and that will be that.
The drive home was interesting. Very, very snowy where I was, but getting into Webster it wasn't snowing at all. Usually the other way around.
No word from Sean so it's the usual stuff tomorrow, bank etc. Seeing my parents. Then a bunch of work Saturday. If no Sean I'll probably call book guy and tell him I can come then after all. Yay.
January is off to a fine beginning, hope it's treating everyone well out there.
