2016-11-18:
Fri:
Leaves, leaves, and more leaves. Though actually it's probably only about half.
Did that in the morning before I left at 10:45.
And then the rest of the day began.
Item one for review is the people that moved and were having trouble "with email." Well, that was certainly true, it was the windows live mail not able to open bug I had recently worked out for someone else. Also they had chrome open about 20 times but no chrome widows were showing. Odd. So I ran the repair and that seemed to do it. (as well as mbam and ccleaner, the usual.)
Once it opened mail started downloading, all 5000+ messages, uh, no?
But I couldn't send. It was giving me an error like it couldn't connect to the SMTP server. Bizarre. I did various things, turning the firewall off, and connecting them to a "private" network (because everything in windows has to be super complex and annoying) but nothing worked. They insisted up and down they still had RR when I asked, but after an hour of trying stuff I looked at the router they were using.
It was frontier.
It's one thing to not have a high rating in computer use, but quite another to not know what internet service you're actually using.
So I made them gmail accounts.
It now being almost 2:00 and I had two more places to go, I simply went to York. I was at least looking forward to seeing the cute girl that worked there. Nope. Just the older, uncute girl instead. Sigh. Did some stuff for her, got rid of a bunch of wires, hopefully that will solve her issue but it's hard to say. It shouldn't have been the hub she was using, because the other machine would have been doing the same thing. Who knows.
Made it to the 3:00 only a bit late, did the standard check after someone is scammed. Why do people keep falling for that? At least he didn't give them any money.
Back here at 5:00 to finally eat… lunch.
Then did some more witcher 1. Really not feeling the game, honestly.
Sun:
Got an early start to get some stuff done!
Baked my cornbread and while that was going on, worked on Mizzy's gift. Got it all done and looking great. I'll post pictures after Christmas of course. (6 weeks by the way)
While that was going I printed two more books for book guy. Only four more to go, ugh.
I am NOT A PRINT SHOP.
Drove the long screws into the door frame, so the storm door is one again secured and closes by itself. Hope it holds this time.
Then did the hated paperwork while I had an Oliver on my lap. So far behind last year, in terms of both people and money it's not even amusing. Good thing I have a full time job that "pays so well." Oh wait my fingers accidentally slipped and put quotes there? How could that happen? Oh well, can't go back and correct it.
Then put the latest changes in for the Susan story, and started cooking my fish for lunch.
While that cooked I started wrapping the gift, and then when it was done (I ate it) and wrapped Sean's and Neil's too. Done!
That finished the list of things I wanted to accomplish and it wasn't even 2:00.
Started, and finished, chapter 231. Combats always take a long time to get though. Took most of the rest of the day.
Had only one call to make, from yesterday. Didn't reach him.
Mon:
Didn't reach him today, either. But I did help Cliff with his stupid Act! problem. Hate that program. Updated it, still was stupid. Checked permission of database files- incorrect? Changed. Still stupid. Poked around their diagnostics utility. Still stupid. Restarted SQL service.
WORKS FINE.
Okay, whatever.
Anyway, did the disable admin service today with the newest build. They seem to have broken entering the keys from the local UI at least in places. Odd. That service takes pretty much all day but didn't have any meetings or anything so it went okay.
Stopped at Staples on the way home, bought batteries because my phones were dying. Then went to see the lady with the win10 laptop that she had forgotten the password to. She had remembered it and wanted it hooked up to the printer.
But wait, it already is! Dummy.
Got back here, ate dinner, checked my sites, the aforementioned calls- and it was 9:00.
Went over the last Susan chapter as I hadn't read it over before.
Tues:
Pretty standard day, actually wrote up some new bugs.
Had my early morning 8:00 meeting, discussed certain things.
Then had my work all lined up. Finished two new test cases, checked the old bugs to see if any were fixed, installed the new build, looked it over. Very short program meeting, didn't even have anyone come, odd.
Started the cloning web service again as it's now oldest. Got through only part of it, but that's fine.
No job after work, got home while it was still light outside. Ate dinner, started chapter 323. Got almost 2000 words into it when I had to make calls.
Talked about an iPad, really not much to do but okay, I can come "set it up" or whatever.
Then lost an hour to the car salesman guy trying to move his backup of OnTime (the program that only runs on XP and the company went belly up years ago, if you'll recall) to his other machines. Why are you still using this crappy XP laptop? I set you up some very nice VMs on your new, SSD, laptop. Why was this one not tossed as far as possible and shot with a shotgun?
Oh, it's not online, you say? It's connecting but not talking to the DHCP server properly? Oh goody!
WHY? WHY? WHY?
Anyway, after an hour did NOT get it resolved. He's going to drop it off.
Back to writing!
Finished 323. Told you writing combats was way longer!
Wed:
Did all the rest of the features at work today, that's three and a half test documents. I'm getting faster at doing them, just like with the Staples stuff I was doing before. That, or the quality of my work is going down the tubes.
HA, no it's the first one.
Found a bug in CWW that somehow crept in, and they missed it because they didn't test it. "because nothing there had changed." Ahahahahah. Silly.
Had a late meeting, went over things, I'll probably write up at least one new bug tomorrow. Cleared out a few fixed one with verification status. Work work work. 325 total test cases now, by the way. I'm not counting the final service, as it's changed pretty dramatically. So I may have more or less in that one, but it'll be 400 easily? He asked so I added it up.
My after work work work work wasn't there, so I couldn't do any work work work. Sigh. I get to go back tomorrow. But this did mean I could come home. So I did.
Checked my sites, looked at the crappy old laptop that car guy dropped off (spoiler, it connected here just fine. Oh, and now I recall that dropbox doesn't support XP anymore! Whoops! hahahah)
Read over chapter 323 and made a few minor tweaks. I've been thinking about what I want Susan to do in the next chapter, just have to put it down on, well, not paper.
No calls, but I had some people to call back.
Called a guy I've been emailing, he's having trouble with (shock and surprise) windows live mail. He made an appointment for after thanksgiving.
Called car guy. He (shock and surprise) doesn't know his dropbox password. I sent the reset link and he can get back to me.
He did, and even resetting it twice (apparently) I still can't get into it.
Wrote 2/3 of the next Susan chapter.
Thurs:
The build is chosen, though there are still one or two issues with it. Mitch discovered the config report sometimes prints that the feature isn't installed, which is a bug. Tried to reproduce it, couldn't of course. Sigh.
Otherwise just more poking at it. Got the new CWW as they had found a few more bugs with it (whoops) but didn't get to use it before the end of the day.
Now they can start putting in the new feature for the network log, and clean up the rest of the bugs.
Went to the same place I was at yesterday, hurray they were there. Ran mbam on his one machine, looked at his "file server" which he said was complaining about having a degraded RAID for like a year. *rolls eyes*
Back here, checked my sites, five calls. Ugh. I need to do my leaves before it starts snowing Sunday. Give me a break here people, I had nothing to do monday or tuesday.
Talked to everybody, so I have three for Saturday (after leaves) and one for Sunday. Marvelous.
Nothing from Sean, so it looks like the plan for the next few days is work tomorrow, trying to reproduce that config report bug. Then maybe a bit of excel wizardry with vbs or vba or whatever that's called, to somewhat automate pulling the failed cases out. I don't mind doing it, but I just thought it would be cool to hit a button and have the spreadsheet magically fill in.
Then go to the bank, do the shopping, and see my parents. I'm getting a laptop with a possible dead HD dropped off, so that I'l have to do too. Yay.
Saturday up about the same time as normal to get out and do my leaves, hopefully they are still dry enough to blow around. Ugh, have to do the front probably, the weather is really going to get nasty soon. Hope I have enough time before it rains/I have to leave. I guess we'll see. Most of the back tree is down, but I may have more to do. Boo.
Then sunday the one job. (or more depending on what I get for calls tomorrow/Saturday)
Hope to do a bit of writing tonight, we'll see what I get done I guess.
I did! This will be a long one, 4,000 words and counting.
Stay warm this weekend everyone, see you next week.
