2016-07-08:

Fri:
Let's see, how did today go?

Cleaned up the lab, i.e. tossed the two tables worth of paper hire buddy had left strewn all around. Turned the table around, and set myself up a nice little work space. I should get a picture to contrast being squished under that printer. Maybe Wednesday.

Got a new/old version of software and gave it a going over… well, the one email app, anyway. The major fix isn't even ours, but we may have broken some things in the build. Yeah. It's a very odd situation, never mind.

Also went through the print from email test cases, and got them up to the "gold" standard I employ because they were all over the place. I got them in order, following the format of the rest of the test cases, added the missing bypass tray test cases (did you even run them? I don't think so, what were you even doing over there?) and put the more free form ones at the bottom. Didn't have a chance to really read them over and make corrections, but that's what Wednesday is for.

Bought the stuff for the 4th at Wegmans, went to the bank, got regular groceries, and went home because I had forgotten the goodie bag. Then went to my parent's house and had yummy dinner, watched outdoor birdies and got yelled at by a chipmunk. Silly chipmunk! Got tasty snacks, and the coolest Luna plush. I might need to lower the shelf one more notch, she's so massive! I love her! Huh, have to get a picture of her too.

Back here I made my calls, (only the one) and tried to update the firmware on the SSD drives to see if that would improve things. Can't do it! Tore the bracket out of the machine, brought it upstairs (oh yeah, replaced the RAM in the vista machine I spoke of last time. Running okay now. Go figure) so it could be just the one drive, and the utility can't find it. Apparently I would have to reformat the thing (all four of them) to update the firmware.

Glad to not have any traditional drives on the new system! (Apart from the blue ray drive, of course)

So put that back together. Got ready for tomorrow, ordered a birthday gift for my sister (and a fairly clever one at that, based on what she was crushing on) and then wrote this up.

A few more minutes and I'll get ready for bed.

Sat:
Work was better than expected today because there was 1/3 less of it.

Went to see the "email trouble" guy and found he couldn't launch chrome or live mail. Weird. I tried to reload them, but that didn't work out very well either. So I did some minor cleanup stuff and rebooted the machine to see an odd message he had pointed out when it booted.

No message. And the two apps launched just fine. Go figure.

Called my 1:00, no answer.

Successfully transplanted the current gaming machine into the new case. Put the old sound and video card back in because they're not the issue. Reseated everything, even cleaned off the old paste and put new paste on the processor. Booted right up, whew. While reading Sean's disk it hung, so it wasn't anything easily cured. Sigh.

Got some PCs ready for the sale.

Ate lunch.

Then out to password guy. He didn't know the password to his machines. MA-chines. Really! And the password reset wasn't working on the one, so I did it another way and that worked. Of course he lost his keychain, but that's the breaks. (That took from 1:00 to 3:00)

Back here, set the car up to cool off so I could change the oil later, and finished up another PC. Cleaned out one that's been sitting there needing a HD, but I think it's too far gone. The fan and heatsink are seemingly one unit, I can't separate them to oil the fan. And it spins pretty poorly. So that one seems a bust. Tore apart the smoker's machine.

Did the oil change. Oh my goodness that was easier than the first time. Mainly, (and this is just conjecture and everything) because I didn't tighten the oil filter as though the fate of the world depended upon it! Just gently undid it, and boom, done. Very relaxing.

Ate dinner.

Finally watched some of that star wars stuff Sean gave me.
Got the parts and cases and things cleaned up for the big install (wednesday at the earliest, sigh) and decided to bring the video card up from the basement. "Oh yeah, that huge mouse pad that came with it, I'll stick that back in the box."

Nowhere to be found.

How do you lose a huge freaking mouse pad? How I ask you? I remember not wanting to get it all dusty (can't imagine how that would happen) so I flipped it upside down but it was still right there. But where, that's the main point. I can't find it anyplace. aargh.

Looked at the Lenovo, see if it was worth saving. Some weird video glitch happened after I got it booted. Strange. Once Memtest is run a bit I'll try a video card. I think I have two or three PCI ones, no sense wasting a good PCI-E one on it.

Oh, and I found this random fortune cookie paper on the floor. Just, boom, what's this? Fortune cookie paper. Where did you come from little one? Last fortune cookie I had was months ago at Sean's.

It reads: "Your spirit of adventure leads you down an exciting new path."
Wait, I have a spirit of adventure? Sweet!

Maybe some fickle fey creature inhabiting my house traded me that for the mouse pad?

Sun:
Found the mouse pad! It was in the laundry basket somehow.

Anyway, got up to get to my 9:00, drove half an hour there and did a standard cleanup. Answered some questions, looked into why windows didn't want to see the external as viable for backup. You know, the usual.

Came back here, started and finished rearranging my room a bit. No more gaming in the dusty basement for me! Moved everything upstairs. Speakers, PC, all of it. Left the Mac Mini down there for maps and such. Made a long ethernet cable I'll just plug in when I need it, as there wasn't an easy way to get it through the floor there.

Went back to watching Star Wars stuff after that.

Made ice cream, did more cleaning up. Mostly sweeping.

Mon:
Made more ice cream in the morning because I sort of bought cream without knowing exactly how much I needed, so I got two batches. Not complaining. Then made the salad, watched more episodes, and left for Sean's early afternoon.

Played some games, ate very yummy cupcakes (and other foods) and a good time was had by all.

Tues:
Picked berries first thing, they aren't very big this year for the most part. I think last year we had too much rain, this year too little. The ones in the near back and sort of getting ripe? Not too promising. Didn't get many yet.

Finished up Rebels season 1.

Got some paper work type stuff done, like putting in my income change for the year for my health care, and my alarm amount went up so I changed that in the bank. Seems I'll be paying about $300 per month for health care now, starting next month. Yay?

Should have done paperwork, but even I have limits on real days off. Ate leftovers.

Back to work and normal schedules for now, of course the plus there is back to normal paychecks, too. Yay!

Made calls, nothing for tomorrow which is excellent as my new PC parts should come. Got the storage unit today, it's so tiny! It's the size of a stick of gum, and transfers 2000 MB per second. That should do it. Came without any sort of packaging, just in an envelope with a foam tray around it. Odd. Couldn't find it a box to live in for the journey?

Also got the cable modem in for the guy. It was full of dead bugs! Joyful. And it doesn't work. How surprising. Ebay dispute system go!

Thursday's is way too far away. Like 45 minutes. But it's a relative of Sean, and hopefully it's just her mouse but who knows. She says it doesn't click. Drat, should have had her try right clicking to see what would happen. Sigh. I'm stupid.

Weds:
Got the parts in, hurray. They even work… after a fashion. With all 32GB of RAM in, the system doesn't POST. Just sits and spins doing nothing. However, take one 8GB chip out and put in a slower 2GB chip, and suddenly everything is just honkey dory. Odd. Not sure what I'm going to do about that. Maybe get another 8GB that's slower and just use that?

Win10 installed in 5 minutes, so that's not too shabby. It's pretty fast, mbam took less than two minutes to scan, but honestly I'm surprised it took that long. Well, that's okay. Getting stuff copied over and installed into it. There are a ton of Win10 updates to download already. So that's still going.

Three calls, but one of them was "yeah it's fixed." "whoops, it's not fixed" so it worked down to one. Spent twenty minutes on the phone with a lady restoring her shortcut to chrome. Yes, twenty minutes for 2 seconds of work.

So we're still on for the long ways away one for tomorrow. Yay.

Work was boring, there was some password issue in the morning, so we literally couldn't use the equipment. That got fixed by the afternoon, but no new build yet. Maybe tomorrow. Senpai is back from Florida though, escaped the parks intact.

Thurs:
Nope. Going backwards is the new hotness, so we're going to test the 5.1.3 build starting tomorrow instead of just pushing ahead with 6.0 which we were going to give them in like three weeks anyway? Not sure about that. But whatever, it'll finally give us all something to do.

Drove the 45 minutes after work to see the lady. Out in the country, and she had a lot of barkie doggies. What she also had was an IE issue. Her PC wasn't the problem, it was working just fine. But IE would sort of hang up. Not totally, mind you, like the menus still lit up and such. And I could open a new tab and it would work. Oddly.

I suggested firefox. Gave her the usual stuff, ran the usual things, and got home just at 7:00.

Two calls, so I have Saturday morning booked. Yay?

Looking forward, usual stuff after work tomorrow including shopping and parent's house. Not sure about the afternoon, Sean hasn't gotten back to me about doing the Wanderer game.

Then it looks like I get to go see book guy Sunday, which I know will be a real treat.

Here at home I finished up the transfer of everything. Basically I tossed off the desktop something I got working on the new machine. That way I didn't miss anything. I had gotten it pretty well set, so I think it's done. Well, when it's done downloading 22GB worth of starcraft II I'll probably never play again, that is.

Skyrim still loads kinda… slow. Gurr. What the heck? Looking into that some more when it's all said and done.

It's set up, at least. Sounds good, looks good. Done.

See you next week.
