Fri:
Best news today! My manager came and said he wants to keep me on for at least another six months. Yes! But he can't keep us both, so hire buddy will probably have to go. Unless he finds some opening for him, anyway. Where do I sign?
Otherwise, as planned did some reduce and enlarge, enough to know that not much about it changed, and finished print from google. Nothing changed there, either. But I got through the day.
Went to the bank, the new pet store that had twenty different types of food but not the kind I wanted, the old pet store, Staples to use my 15% off coupon and last $9 of my rewards so I got the item free, and got food.
Dinner with my parents, then back here.
One call, so I have three jobs total tomorrow.
Checked my sites, emailed Sean about the corrections to the Pyre document.
Jumped through hoops to get at $10 rebate, had to use an actual stamp. Like it was the 90s or something.
Sat:
Straightened up around here a bit, and had the bright idea to install the SSD into my machine, install it, and then I would just have to pop it inside the machine it was going to live in saving myself time later. So I did that. Try that with windows, right?
So I left for my 10:00 and got it installed, then showed her how to put music on her iPod because she said everyone had trouble doing it. I just clicked a checkbox and hit "apply." Not really all that tough I thought.
Back here I watched some videos, then had lunch and left again.
Pretty simple stuff for the next one. A laptop with only 2GB of RAM? And it was running Win8 before? That's odd. So I pepped that up and answered some questions. Did a minor cleanout of the desktop, just some firefox toolbars and such. Installed chrome too. They handed me some money but later called me that was only part of it so… yeah. It was, only for the RAM. That's what I get for not counting it before I leave, not that I would have gone back.
Then over to the car dealer guy. He had a bunch of stuff. His one laptop needed to be cleaned out. Hooked to the printer. His wireless mouse wasn't working for some reason, and I couldn't get it to work. The desktop had a few issues. He wants the laptop to be as fast as the other one I got him, so I'm putting an SSD into it so glad I did all that work cleaning it out. And I took two systems he wants taken back to 8.1 for some bizarre reason. I think he's worried about the telemetry, but is it really that big a deal?
Had a couple of calls today, but at least one person said they would drop the machine off.
So spent a few hours trying to get this stupid acer 10 thing to boot off the DVD/USB and then found out it only supports 32 bit windows. Despite having a 64 bit processor. So I download a 32 bit version of windows 8, and it still won't work.
While doing my research, it seems this thing came with a "with bing" OS? Which MS doesn't make available for download, so you're just kinda plumb out of luck. You might ask "but what about that stupid restore partition included by every manufacturer because they're too cheep to provide media for the last ten years?" Seems to have been wiped out, I hit the key combo for it and it blue screens the stupid thing.
So I've given up. He can have them back and suck it up. Suck up that beautiful Win10 telemetry he's so worried about. Because I JUST DON'T CARE ANYMORE.
Whew, that was negative. Sorry about that. Maybe I should post a cute kitty picture or something to balance it out. I saw a bunny hopping around today, does that count?
I'm going to bed. I hate this stupid pc repair business.
And PCs. Don't forget that.
Like I could let you forget! :-)
Sun:
Did a bunch of FF7 of course, got down to my favorite area in the game. The Left/Up route in the final dungeon. Why? Movers and Magic Pots, of course. They give so much AP and XP and gold (who cares at that point?) it's a paradise for a person like myself that wants to get a ton of Materia to a high level. And my characters to a high level to boot.
Looked at a system that was dropped off, think I got it all set actually.
Only one call, but she said she had figured it out.
Did have one job, at 10:00, just some questions and straightening some things out for them. No big deal.
Probably finish FF7 tomorrow and maybe get back to writing? Or do more Skyrim, then write Tuesday? That could be a plan.
Mon:
Won FF7 as expected. I did have one hang though, and the sound card was not in. Am I fighting multiple problems here? I don't get it. I've disabled or removed everything I can, including the old HD and the DVD drive. USB 3. I guess to really know I'll have to play skyrim some more, see if it blue screens or not. Sigh.
Attempted to take on Emerald Weapon using the "just bash him until he dies" strategy I successfully employed before. Whoops. Breaking the 9999 damage limit was fun when I was the one dealing the majority of damage in battles. In this one I… wasn't. So I was swiftly annihilated and just did the last boss, which was far easier.
Worked on the pc that had been dropped off.
Good old "side-by-side configuration is incorrect." Like what does that even mean? Come on MS, you really can't do better than that?
Oh, what am I saying, of course you can't.
Ran sfc /scannow and was told it couldn't fix some of the problems. Wait, isn't that like building a hammer, going to use it on nails, and finding you can only hit your foot with it? The tool is meant to repair system files. It's the only job this tool has. To say then that it cannot… Upon reboot it showed me some repair screen, but no mouse cursor so I couldn't do anything but turn it off. Great. I tried another mouse but that didn't help. Looked it up. Oh look, like every other MS issue it's well known. And it has the usual solution.
Reload windows!
Super, thanks a lot.
I'm trying the 10 boot disk.
Amazing, the auto repair couldn't do anything. What a shock.
So that was also a bust.
Tried putting it into another machine, in case it was a machine issue somehow? (the keyboard and mouse both work in the BIOS… well, the keyboard does I can't test the mouse obviously) Nope! Same issue.
Got hold of the guy, he said to reload it.
Way to take a machine that was at least running in some capacity and reduce it to a machine that couldn't even boot, MS. Hats off. Much troubleshooting. Wow!
Reloaded it, after backing up his data of course. At least he said 10 was fine, that saves me hours of downloading 7 updates at least. Not that the machine would need me here watching that happen, of course.
Not that now doing windows 10 updates doesn't take forever, as it basically has to reload everything for the latest update it does. Seriously, takes over the screen with exactly the same look and graphics as the initial install. Goes just as "quickly" as well.
Got a couple of calls today. One about "making sure I got his message" from "him calling yesterday." Dude? Hate to tell you this, but calling me earlier today is not "Yesterday." When all my troubles seemed so far away. But now it looks at though they're- oh wait, sorry that got away from me. Today != Yesterday. While this_morning != tonight, Today = Today. *shakes head*
So that finally finished, so I can at least say I accomplished something today.
Tues:
Did some things around here that had been piling up. Like some printers I needed to see if it was worth saving. And there were some laptops sitting there. And I cleaned up the breezeway a bit.
Got lots of the games by console up on ebay, each for $4.99. Get rid of them! If they will even sell.
And even better, I didn't have to do it while paralyzed with fear with thoughts like "I haven't gotten any calls today what am I going to do my life is ruined what's going to happen to me will I be out on the street" etc etc. It was just "Well, hope that paperwork gets signed so I have another 6 months of work." It was just a day off (my last tuesday off until the 4th anyway) and I was doing stuff.
Made a pie, yes, used the last of the berries from last year as I'll soon have berries from this year. It totally spilled over the edges for some reason. I guess it was just too much pie for one pie pan to contain. Never done that before, weird. I had a pan under it so it's not all over the place.
Wed:
No new build, so not much has been going on at work. Did some more copy tests today, myself. Wrote up one new thing, while doing copy I sometimes see my favorite "ready to scan" screen randomly. The software just loves that screen! Ever since it was put in, it comes up all the time.
No word about hire buddy being found a new assignment. Tick Tock!
Of course, no paperwork on my end signed either.
Dropped off the keyboard to the guy after work. Almost didn't need it. Moron had the batteries in backwards. His delete key didn't work, so he still needed a new keyboard so at least I didn't order that for nothing. But powering it up I was like, really? You didn't put the new batteries in like the old ones came out?
Then had four calls tonight! Yes, the last three days I've gotten nothing, and now four in one day. Well, three. I got one call last night at 11:00 PM. Waking me up. Thanks a freaking lot. No really, I enjoy being awoken to the sound of my own voice talking to some idiot far too late into the night. It's true. Just wake me up whenever, I just love it, love it, love it.
Spent an hour on the phone while some guy ran mbam and babbled at me. In the end I still had to get on his machine and clean some stuff out. No, it's fine, I love doing things for free, like watching shows and writing. Oh, wait, that wasn't either of those things? Huh. Weird.
So I booked tomorrow (30 minutes away) Thursday one for Sunday and two for saturday. Looking forward to all of them. Saturday morning one most of all, some windows 10 crap about .net? At least so the heavily accented lady from yesterday claimed. Gonna be so fun.
So now it's time for bed. Glad I got to do… nothing tonight.
Thurs:
A bit boring at work today, no new build until next week but I did manage to write up a few new things. One thing that was on old thing that was closed, and filed under something different, so I didn't see it when searching. Whoops. Anyway, fix it, I don't care about your excuses and "oh, we'll fix it if staples notices." That's not how we at Xerox do things. Maybe at that other company that split off from us? Some weird C name, it's a made up word that does NOT roll off the back of a duck. I mean tongue. Tongue is what I meant there.
But I did reach 700 bugs today, which I was pretty proud off.
We also lost senpai to his Disney vacation until about two weeks from now. So we're down to three for a bit, and soon enough it'll be just the two of us? We can make it if we try? Just the two of us, him and I. Or perhaps just the one? Didn't hear anything today.
After work went to do a regular checkup, that went fine. Also got my new video card from Heather. It's on Ultra settings now! Just in time for the Skyrim "HD reboot" which is weird because it looks pretty good to me just as it is. I was sort of annoyed, actually, like "am I going to have to buy the game for a forth time now?" But then I read "if you have all the add ons, you'll get a copy free on such and such a date." and I was like, "Oh, carry on then."
Got ready for tomorrow. No news from Sean but that's okay, having my father over for Father's day for dinner, hopefully he'll be free anyway. I even know what movie we're going to watch.
Got two more calls, so I have Saturday even more solidly booked. The guy down the street is having more password issues (shock and surprise) and someone with vista and a BSOD when she boots. Sigh.
She's not that far away either, at least.
Then Sunday is one job at the moment. What happened to me time? Probably have to cut the whole lawn, but to be fair I didn't do any last week so that's fair. That's fair.
Well, maybe I'll get a chance to use my new video card at some point. I do have monday off, but of course I have a job at 9:00 already for that day, so looking forward to that too! (lie)
See you all next week, I'm certain I'll have a lot of complaining for you to catch up on so look forward to it! (that's an order)
