2015-03-12:

Fri:
Another busy day, starting with the mortgage company. Oh, well, starting with making the appointment to go get my car inspected. Ugh, 7:30 in the morning. Yuck.

Anyway, during the office rearrangement they reset the router so the printer didn't work. I put it back to the ip address they had previously. (Someone long ago chose 10.0.0.1 as the base address)

Not far away to the place I sold the gaming PC to. Turns out to be some capacitors, so the kid got lucky that I can replace them now. Of course two of them are short ones right under the video card. In my huge pile 'o motherboards I found… one. So I had to order some. I got five, I'll replace all in that area, might as well.

Back here to eat, then out to the prison outreach place. Looked at three… no four machines there. One had only 1GB of RAM (and some weird RAM it was, too. It had blinken lights on it!) Others just needed my loving touch.

Then over to see about some odd internet issues. Her laptop antenna was crazy bad. Couldn't get out of the room before signal strength went to near zero. So I sold her an external antenna.

Then over to see my parents.

Back here, watched more Naruto!

Sat:
Cleaned up around here so if my father comes over, it's less apparent to him I'm a total slob.

Started the install on the hard drive I bought for the lenovo, but chose the machine I got more recently which seems faster and has more RAM to begin with.

Watched more Naruto, and had my father over. Got through all but one episode, the last episode, the one I haven't seen myself! aargh! Oh well, maybe next week?

Sun:
Lazy, watched more Naruto. My goodness, even at double speed there are a lot of episodes.

Got a few calls, but more people wanted Tuesday than Monday so, what are you going to do?

Mon:
"Warm." At least the snow started to melt, so that's a good sign, right? Oh, it's going to be even "warmer" tomorrow? Bring it on.

Did the shopping, bought my ink cartridge like a good little Staples shopper so I keep getting my ink rewards.

Other than that, normal.

Watched… oh, you know.

Did my one job, basically scanning some pictures for him. Apparently he's on a lot of dating sites. For foreign women who have pictures taken by pros. Uh, no, it's not a scam why do you ask?

I didn't. None of my business.

Had a machine dropped off, the second (or third?) use of the syskey registry encryption by scammers I've seen. I managed to restore the backup which hadn't been erased, and his machine came back to life. Did the usual stuff, it wasn't too badly infected.

Two calls today, so I have three for tomorrow and one for Wednesday already. Super.

Tues:
Went out for my morning one, turned out to be a Safari issue. Yahoo didn't really like her old version (running on 10.6.8) so I installed firefox for her. So that didn't take long.

Had some time before my 2:00. Got the capacitors changed on the gaming machine, that seemed to go well.

Out at 2:00, her hard drive is pretty much toast, and not the "you're not busying eating…" kind either. She's going to get a new machine, and there was some question as to laptop or desktop. Then out to the ice cream place to put in the ethernet card. Hope that helps.

Some calls today, so tomorrow should be pretty busy. Watched more Naruto, still tons of episodes to go. (And I'm skipping the filler!)

Didn't actually make any money today… gurr

Wed:
Made a little more today. And it was melty all day today, but Friday is the next melty day to look forward to.

Another 10:00 one today, a Mac Pro that goes all whobbly after you turn it on. I examined the video card after trying another monitor, two capacitors are a bit bulgy. Sheesh, it's cap city around here lately. Brought it home and changed them, seemed to run the rest of the day fine. Go me.

Afternoon, taking a look at a year old win8 laptop. Got it booted, left it running the long HD test. 1.5ghz machine, sometimes running a .78 ghz. Ugh. Slow piece of junk.

Then a cleanout for some new customers. That went fine, nothing really surprising.

Then dropped the gaming PC back off and collected my money there.

Back home at 6:00, ate dinner and watched more Naruto.

Got though all the episodes I have. Turns out it isn't over yet. I thought it was. AARG. Oh well.

Thurs:
A very long day. Stay with me here.

First lady had two machines that needed cleaning. They were pretty bad. Last time I had looked at the one was 3 years or so ago, so yeah, don't let it go that long next time. After that I returned the Mac and he was happy.

Went to staples to get the router I would later sell.

Came back here, ate, out for my 1:00. That machine was blue screening or hanging after boot, and what do you know, I saw a bunch of leaking capacitors. Figuring that was it, I brought it back here and painstakingly removed them. It took way longer than it should have, for various reasons, but I got the new ones in and it ran all afternoon without fail.

Then out to the wood guy, a couple of minor issues I solved by looking the problem up on google. He gave me a tiny laptop to reload as it boots for about 3 seconds and then reboots itself.

Then to see Ellen, set up her new router. Did that.

Back here, ate dinner.

Then back out again for my 6:00, she was having trouble with windows update, so I got that machine straightened out.

Back here, only one call today, the lady from a few days ago got her new machine. So that's for Saturday.

So the plan for the next few days is:

tomorrow: take car in. Reload laptop. See my parents. Play borderlands with crew.
Saturday: Take PC back, set up new pc. No news on game.
Sunday: usual laying about.

Going to bed super early tonight to get up at 6:30 tomorrow, take my car in by 7:30. Should be fun, on a friday the 13th.

Should be the warmest it's been for a while tomorrow, looking forward to that. Maybe almost 50? And it's so light out at night again, it's great.
