2014-11-27:
Fri:
Pretty successful close to the week, actually. Got the NAS all put in and working with no trouble. Had to hunt around to figure out how exactly the backup function worked on it, but I figured it out and turned the anti-virus part on. Eh, why not.
So I got the money for that, thank you very much.
Went to my 12:00, some weird issue with Second Life. The client would get to VFS and just crash. The forum posts about it were all the same, reinstall, throw away folders, etc. Didn't help. Found a different client and that was that. Wow, people still use Second Life.
My 1:30 had canceled on me so I got gas, dropped off the 2 CDs I had made a few days ago, and went to see my parents.
Then to my 3:30 where I moved the files from her desktop over to her laptop, and she gave me the desktop. One SSD and some work later and I'll have a system to sell.
Didn't really snow, the sun was out, who could ask for more?
Me, that's who.
Sat:
Got ingredients for cake!
Baked cake!
Frosted cake!
Worked on the reorganization project and then went to Sean's house. Gave him his gifts and I can finally show you what I made him. It's Starbug from Red Dwarf!
[[image file="2014-11/starbug.jpg" alt="A bug for the stars" ]]
This one is my crappy one, that the legs got broken and repaired on. I think I painted Sean's a little better, as this was my practice one, basically. This one and the one with the busted fin were my practice ones. I think it came out okay, really.
As for game, we stayed on task pretty well, and things went okay so that was all to the good. Got the last part I needed for Mizzy's gift, so I can start working on that.
Sun:
All the snow had melted and it was not freezing cold so I finished up the leaves. Hope they get picked up, but all down the street are leaf piles so they should be.
Worked on Mizzy's gift. Got all the detail work done and went to do the main part of it. So I opened up the Shapeways page to see about the material restrictions, and they don't offer that material anymore. They're going to replace it with something else, but that something else isn't ready yet. Super. Apparently only 30% were shipping on time, and they had raised the estimate to 45 days! Which I guess they didn't like. So I had to come up with something else, and hopefully I can make her what I wanted next year. Sigh.
Worked on the latest chapter of Susan's Chronicles. Big fight!
Finished it. Took until about 10:00, man, 3000+ words for five seconds of combat. Of course, it had 14 enemies and a bunch of cops and a few regular people running around. Still, not bad.
Mon:
Did the shopping, gave the instructions for what I wanted to happen to my CDs when they came up next month.
When I got home, the leaves were gone, so that's good that they got out one last time on the nice day and took care of that.
Went at 11:00 to see the psychiatrist lady, she had since booked that time. But at least she explained the issue, and… craigslist was down? Couldn't get to it, but she was complaining about how slow the system was. I said I had the Win7 system I got last week that just needed a hard drive, so she said that one would be fine.
On the way back I got a proper check from the account, who wrote it out wrong. He wrote only three hundred, leaving out the $67 that came after that. They had moved it (why? Why?) and knocked it offline, so I went through with them how to activate it.
Nothing much else until 3:30 when I left for Hilton. She couldn't articulate what was wrong ("my internet is down") but I'm giving her a pass because she's the victim of a stroke. Ran mbam and the normal stuff, but her main issue was just that her router needed to be reset.
And the accountant office called me, oh, it's so slow, and I need to reinstall all this stuff, whaa, whaa. This is crap, because I opened the program she was talking about while I was there and it was fine. So now I get to go back there and see what other crap they've done to a brand new NAS.
I hate my job.
Talked a guy through getting rid of the crap he downloaded trying to get the weather. Like yeah, you need to download something to see the weather on any number of websites that deal with that. Like, I don't know, weather.com?
Didn't reach the other person that called. So I just have the lady with the dead machine, who claims the laptop doesn't do anything, from last week. That's at 10:00 tomorrow.
Warm, but windy. Going to get colder.
Tues:
Thought I wouldn't have much to do today, but the day proved me wrong.
Went over to the laptop lady, she did have a legit claim. It wasn't just her. Somehow the panda process was taking 100% of the CPU and not letting anything else happen. Huh. Took it out, reloaded it. Also set up her old external wireless adapter. Her printer I couldn't get on the network because the LCD was busted so I couldn't see what it was trying to tell me, or tell it to do anything.
After lunch I went over to install the power button for the guy, which it turned out to be was the issue. How about that? Took me some time, the cable was routed across the monitor to the other side, for some other button opposite the power button. But his laptop is working again, and that's the main thing.
Then stopped in to see about giving the guy the HDMI->DVI cable I ordered him. Windows multi display is really weird. It didn't help he had two video cards in that machine, that seemed to work differently. Finally got it squared away in the end though.
After that, over to the accountant guy (again) to see their latest crisis. Which was averted. The stupid proseries product took the pathname to the server, hard coded it, and of course couldn't find it now. I changed the .ini file to just point to the drive letter (which it should have been in the first place) and that was that.
And that was the day.
Didn't get many calls today, just the psychiatrist lady who now says her machine is blue screening. Sigh. Oh well, the part will be in tomorrow, anyway.
I do have two places to go. One person with a possible virus on an Android tablet of all things and some guy who totally messed up his router, and may be paying for a RR one, and who knows what he's doing? Baka.
Thought we might play some Borderlands, but no luck. Sigh.
And my 9:30 canceled at 10:45. Sigh.
Wed:
So I worked on the reorganization project most of the day.
Did my one job, get the guy's router squared away. Man did he have the longest password known to man in there for some bizarre reason. Not any more.
Snowy. It's cold enough, and has been cold enough, that it's sticking around now. Looks like we'll have a white thanksgiving.
Thurs:
We DID!
Had a great Thanksgiving with my family, even got to see my Grandfather, something I usually only do at Christmas. So that was nice.
A big thanks to my family for a great day, let's do the same next year.
Friday plans: deliver the eMachine to the psychiatrist lady at 9:30. Shouldn't take too long, I hope. Then back here to plug a laptop into a monitor to see if it's dead. (The laptop, not the monitor) Then at 1:00 hooking up a printer for a lady. Ugh, that'll be a short one too, probably take me longer to drive there.
Probably no game this weekend, I haven't heard anything. So nothing for Saturday, wonder what I'll do?
Hope you all had a good day, see you all… in December.
