2014-09-25:
Fri:
Morning one was about what I expected. He said he was having router issues and hooked up his old one.
I hooked the newer one back up, and oh look, it was fine.
Sigh.
Put the PC on craigslist.
Sat:
Finished the events of the last world for Susan, read the book that's the world I want to put her in next.
Did a cleanout job in the early afternoon, so I made a little money there.
No game, and it turns out Stan/Sean were in some kind of accident! Glad you're okay, guys.
Tried watching Cuba Crossing, but the transfer was terrible. The audio was terrible. And half the time I didn't know what was going on. So I only got halfway through. Watched Advent's Children again (and spotted all the red ribbons I now knew were for Aerith) and then the Dr Who episode.
Sun:
Odd weather. It was raining quite hard when I got up. Then very hard. Then sunny. Then rain. Then sunny again.
Mostly wrote, thought about how to put Susan in the next world.
Not many calls over the weekend. Nonetheless I did schedule two appointments for tomorrow, in addition to the normal shopping, so that's a spot of good news. If they go well, of course.
Finally glued the sensors for my picture windows in, not that I believe they can really be opened at this point from the outside. But you never know. I've just been meaning to do it since the window was replaced.
Even got one call about the PC on craigslist. Hope I sell it to the guy.
Mon:
You know, there's always so many ways to look at things. No matter how "bad" things get for me, at least I can say I'm not Sony. They've seemingly lost 12 billion dollars in the last several years, and just warned of a 2.14 billion annual loss this year.
How does a company lose 12 billion dollars and still operate? So yeah, my fund has only steadily gone down, but not 2.14 billion dollars worth.
Right, so shopping as always. Got yummy dry food for kitties that I had to put in the metal container because they wouldn't leave the bag alone. Despite the bag sitting right next to their bowl… that had the exact same food in it. Silly kitties.
Used my Staples money to buy a router, which I'm glad I did. See below.
Ate lunch, went to my two jobs for the day. Both just cleaning them out, the first person had 3 machines! which would have been nice if he had mentioned before I got there. But I got them all done in 1.5 hours, and made it early to the second one, rather than late as I feared.
They had two, and I noticed while updating the laptop's stuff the machine was really dragging. Well, did a speed test against the desktop, and the wireless was at about 5 mb/s while the desktop was getting the proper 16. Changed the router out (see, told you) and what do you know, the wireless jumped up to where it should be.
It was a pretty old linksys, so I got paid for that the same day I bought it. How's that for convenience?
Came back, called the guy for the PC, no call back. Sigh.
Watched Agents of Shield series 1 because I heard season 2 was coming out, and realized I had only seen 10 episodes of it.
No calls today, no work tomorrow.
Did some thinking about Sean's birthday gift. Of course the 3d file I submitted didn't have "think enough walls" so crap.
Tues:
Thickened the walls of the b-day gift and resubmitted it. Guess we'll see if that helps.
More Agents of Shield.
Got the SSD in for the system I looked at last week. PC hardware continues to "impress" me. Installing windows gave me a weird error message I had never seen before. "Windows Setup could not configure Windows on this computer’s hardware" Fun! Looked it up, the first article was about win7 but it mentioned maybe having the HD system set to RAID mode, which was actually true! Huh. So I changed that and tried again.
That worked. Yay!
Or not. Kept giving me problems. Changed it to IDE mode, trying the install that way. Basically it would just hang at boot. I mean it's a quad core machine, with 6 GB of RAM and a brand new SSD. It should take seconds to boot, not sit there for minutes without even HD light activity.
Fund is still losing money rapidly, down $125. But I guess the whole market was down today. The highest it's been is +.05. Why did I think trying to get more then .14 ever two weeks was a good idea?
Only one job for tomorrow, and maybe returning this desktop if it ever behaves itself. Oddly enough that seems to have worked, it boots much faster now. Huh, thought that was the older "compatibility" mode but maybe the SSD has issues… or windows sucks. Yeah, that one. It's been updating for… like two hours now, and it's at 147 of 161. Sigh. You know, you get like one update when you install a Mac system. One big update. Not almost 200. But it's not hanging and acting strange like it did so that's a good sign.
I did get one for Monday of next week though.
Tiny bit of writing, I was frustrated with windows and kept going back and forth and just didn't get back to it.
And my model came back with "too thin" walls again, but that's impossible. I'll email them and see what they say.
Wed:
Finished up the last couple of things on the desktop and returned it.
Finally cleaned out the right extruder on my makerbot. Something had really gotten lodged in there! So that's put back together and everything. (It was sort of all over.) Now I can finally use it again.
By the way, happy fall everyone. It's only been a day but I'm seeing trees that have already started to turn.
And then at 2:00 did my second one for the day, just getting rid of some junk programs (good old PC Backup and that "optimizer" I see everywhere now) Answered some questions, that sort of thing.
Got through chapter 47 (a very good one in my humble opinion) before I went over to feed mom's cats.
Got only one call today, so I have only one job for tomorrow. Afternoon. Sigh.
Thurs:
Spent most of the day working on Sean's gift. Of course shape ways "Is not a design facility" which I suppose I understand. If they tried to help people they would probably do nothing but that. They have to just plop it into the printer and box up what comes out. But they pointed me to a much better way to do the walls then I was doing, so I had to remove the walls I had made and do it the other way. I also cleaned up a few more things that hopefully will get it a bit more through the process.
Then went to do my one job!
Two for tomorrow, one that's a half hour away that I think is probably a motherboard problem so I'll be able to do sod all, and one laptop the screen is acting up on, so I'll probably be able to do sod all. She says I replaced it once before, and I think I recall that, but I can't find the invoice for it. Sigh.
Nope, four tomorrow, as two people called (as usual) within minutes of each other. Maybe I will make some money tomorrow after all. Of course the last guy couldn't articulate his problem, as usual. Ah well, he's only 8 minutes from the one before, so at least that's going for me.
Might do board games with Sean this Saturday again. Try to get through a whole game of Eclipse, see if I like it any better.
Otherwise, going to see my parent's kitties in about an hour, and then home to a bit more reading and bed.
So there. Did have a rather brilliant idea about who to make The Darkness in the latest Susan world. A slight departure from the original plan, but I was like, "that would be soooooo good!" in my head and I knew I had to do it. So there. I'm reading more of the books to get a sense for what their magic can do. It's quite different than Susan's.
Nearly October…
