2014-09-04:
Fri:
Did the morning job, nothing too strenuous. Cleaned out the one machine, installed the printer software so she could scan, then reloaded it on another machine that lost it somehow. The installer wanted to "install additional software" so that showed it had been installed once before. So where did it go?
Went to the store for some things for Monday, like mix. Baked brownies for Monday with the mix.
Then did writing. Got through chapter 17 and I know what the beginning of chapter 18 is going to be.
Watched the rest of Korra, that was only put on the web, not broadcast.
Metallic poison? I don't know, that's a bit of a stretch. Oh well, I'm not the writer for that show.
Sat:
Got ready for Labor Day. Looks like rain the next couple of days, but they say it's supposed to rain today, too, and it's been sunny and nice all day.
Scraped the driveway off, hopefully resealing it will not cause peeling this year. Washed the deck. Cleaned out the garage a bit.
Ate lunch, then went back to writing. Sparkle had her conversation with Susan and the plot is back on track with the show.
Got 1000+ words into chapter 20, and kept the plot somewhat on track, given the weird stuff that goes on after this point. Hopefully the foundation laid in 20 will serve for the next 20 chapters. As I'm halfway through the series, it makes sense there should be about as many now as there was. Right?
Sun:
More cleaning up for tomorrow. Dry, but cloudy. Wonder if things will be dry enough to work on outside?
More writing, because I'm an exciting and wonderful person.
Mon:
Did our usual Labor Day stuff, and another thank you to my parents who make it all take half a day rather than three.
Did my paperwork, tried to send the gobmint my estimated tax money, but they couldn't take it because of a "scheduled power outage." Oh, okay?
Tried to figure out what else to do in the story, as the three void mages are together way ahead of schedule, and Louise has not needed world door so Susan is never getting out of there! So now what? I have no idea.
Figured out what the ending was going to be and wrote it up so I don't forget. Only took me two hours. Ah well, it's logical and gets the things I wanted done, done.
And played some FF7, because I've got that itch again.
Tues:
Shopping, but a few different things were done. Closed that Chase account I've had sitting doing nothing closed. Cider is back, yay! Which means it's almost fall. Boo! Got a replacement handle for my blacktop spreader, as I broke mine backing out of the garage. Set it by the door, backed the car out, must have caught it on the mirror because it just snapped right off. Sigh.
Ate lunch, then headed out for my three jobs for the day.
The first was a cleanout, the mortgage guy who just bought that machine. He had in infected already. Go him.
That one went fine. The next two, however…
The next one was a laptop that couldn't get online. Well, it has problems. I've been working on it for about 4 hours now, and while I've run all kinds of tools I can't get it to accept that yes, it is on the Internet so please go to the address I have specified. In other words I can nslookup something, and I can ping by IP address, but not by name. So the internet is basically useless on it.
I downloaded combofix and I'm running that. As mbam doesn't seem to provide an offline database one can just download, I'm now going to reboot into my windows disk, update it there, and then copy the rules file onto the other machine to run it. I don't think it's a virus but at this point I'm flailing around trying anything. She has about 6 users on this machine and I really don't want to have to reload it.
The next one actually got the machine running before I got there, but two of his capacitors are leaking, so that machine isn't long for the world. So I did sod all there.
Anyway, rebooting now, bye.
Okay, that showed nothing, as I expected.
After more looking stuff up and crap, I found (I hope) a way to reload win7 like XP of old. The trick is to tell the installer (via their awful compatibility nonsense) to run it in "Vista mode" and it'll go over top of 7. Shouldn't lose anything, according to the website. Of course, it doesn't like my win7 flash drive for some bizarre reason. And it claims my CD is 32 bit. AARG. I'm copying the win7 files to another flash drive and we'll see if it likes that.
Okay, it seems to, and is copying files. Woohoo?
And oh my goodness is it going slowly. I didn't think it would go any slower than a normal install, but I was wrong.
I'm going to go play some more FF7.
Oh, and I have five jobs for tomorrow, and unlike last Tuesday where two of the jobs were nothing jobs, I think tomorrow is going to be very, very tricky. I really hope everything goes well.
Wed:
The morning has gone pretty well. Even did I job I didn't know I had.
The first one was pretty easy, he just have a few minor issues. His neighbor wanted some stuff done, so I went over there. Called time warner, her internet was down, and wiped out her husband's laptop account. Late husband. He was trying to run windows 7 on a crappy laptop with 512mb of RAM. I'm surprised it even let him install.
Oh, and the laptop from yesterday- worked out great. The "upgrade" solved the issue, that little technique is going in the file, let me tell you.
Then down to see my neighbor, he also had just various questions and such.
Back here to eat lunch, and out again for the last 3 (4 if I return the laptop)
Which I did. The afternoon went pretty well, all things considered. The first person just had some general issues. Reloaded office for him as it was acting up ("something went wrong") Oh really mikysoft? Next up was the car salesman guy, and I had no clue how to help him, as I expected. He thinks he has another programmer unit at home, so I'm going back tomorrow to test if that's the issue. Also he's bringing his laptop, we'll test it with that too.
Dropped the laptop off, and finally the cleanout. She has 15+ wireless networks around. Couple that with RR "lite" and she was getting .2mb/s which went up to .9 when I plugged it in. Ouch.
Came back here, no phone calls today? I do have two for tomorrow though.
Thurs:
Turned out the car guy's little units were bad, not the programmer or the computer. He said he tried three, I tried them all. I only found four that still actually worked. Some didn't beep, to let you know they were active. One beeped continuously, two gave weird error messages about not being programmed properly. So there.
Came back here, washed the little plastic stove I found yesterday for the garage sale, and got some other things around for it.
Ate lunch, and went back out for the machine that won't turn on right.
Okay, the machine was fine, the monitor was busted. It would show the logo when it was turned on, but nothing else. Tried a laptop and a DVD player, no luck. She had a small TV in the kitchen she said she wasn't using, so we hooked that up and she said that would be fine.
So that didn't take long.
Did some writing. Got another chapter done, one more and it'll be 80,000+ words. Already. I'm going back to playing FF7 I guess.
Got three calls today, reached nobody. So I'll be doing some calling tomorrow I guess.
Lost $18.00 on my funds already. Huh? Maybe I'm going to be wishing I had that .14 every two weeks back now?
I know, I know, you're in it for twenty years, you can't use one day's worth of "gains" as any metric. But that could have been positive, you know. Giving someone money and saying "here, make this more money" and they say "Whoops, I made it less money" not even a week later is rather disheartening. Making $18 would have given me a little more confidence is this company than losing that much.
Ah, who am I kidding. *Krillen Voice* We all know how it's going to go for me, don't we?
No game this week either, by the looks. There's a garage sale, and that's about it.
Have a good weekend everyone.
