2014-02-28:
Ate lunch, went to go over various things about speech recognition and such. That was fine.
Then a cleanout, more junk programs and the standard install. No troubles there.
I was near York so I went over there, as someone from there had called just as I was leaving. It was just adding a new user, so that didn't take me any time.
Back by the old church I set up virtualbox for a guy, to run some crazy golf program on XP on his Mac. Ugh. But at least it installed quickly into the VM. Had plenty of time to go to Subway, get dinner, and go over to RIT.
Then game. Which was basically consumed with one combat, and I didn't even get to really play my character. I got to control 4 NPC soldiers. Could have been worse, one guy didn't get to do anything. Sorry about that.
And the doctor killed a guy by accident, which made him feel bad.
Sat:
Called two people. One to do skype, like that's hard, but so she knew what to do.
The other to set up something for monday morning. Ugh, hate doing Monday morning, let me shop.
Got calls at 11:01,1:02, 1:13, 1:16. Oh, and Buddy at 9:00 whining about other things I needed to bring him, now that he is back in the nursing home he should never have left. Anyway, you can't tell me three calls in the span of 15 minutes isn't some kind of conspiracy. Well, you could. But you would be lying.
Puttered about, then went over to Sean's for soup and the Demongate High game. Made sure I noticed the ingredients he used, hahaha. That went a little better, but then got consumed by our lone Cambian trying to fend off three demonic robots he couldn't harm in any way. We were 40m down the hall so for 2 hours we took 10 seconds to run down the hallway while our Cambion buddy got beat up.
And it was only because Sean derped out that our Petitioner's birdy was able to use his fire attack on them, because they're immune to fire. He justified it by saying these were prototypes, so they didn't yet have that immunity. Which is reasonable.
Still, I'm not sure what we think we're going to do once we get down the hallway. Our other two party members aren't any more combatants then our Cambian at the moment. Ah well, we'll think of something.
Sun:
Worked on a cute little program to simulate the ward book my character made in game. Only took the morning, and it works pretty good!
[[image file="2014-02/screen-shot-2014-02-23-at-1.28.18-pm_1.png" alt="Ward Book" ]]
Also watched more of Almost Human and then made phone calls. Busy day tomorrow, though not as many jobs as Friday.
Mon:
Slight change of plans in the morning, my 10:00 delayed to tomorrow, so I went shopping as usual. Having observed the ingredients for Sean's soup, I bought them myself. However, Aldi did not have the ranch powder so I had to go to Wegmans to acquire that. Got an oil filter so I can do that soon. When it's not 15 degrees out like it's supposed to be Wednesday. Also tried radio shack to get a new battery for my cell phone. He said they might be $40 and it might be cheaper to upgrade the phone. But he didn't have the right one, and said the ones he could order would be $20 and not store enough power.
So I came back here and ordered 2 of them from newegg for $7.00.
Does Radio Shack wonder why business isn't like it used to be? Maybe that's why.
Otherwise, I returned the PC to the xceed lady, and came back here.
Ate lunch, waited until 1:30 and went out to my 2:00. Got them straightened out and finally demonstrated the voice recorder for Dragon. Sucked, as expected.
Then to a guy with three machines, a laptop that's been beaten up, an ancient XP machine and a newer laptop that was infected with a bunch of the latest crap. Got that cleaned out and went over the other two for bugs. They were mostly okay.
Then came back here.
Lots of running around for tomorrow, 6 people to see, which includes My Buddy, as he's whining about the nursing home threatening to wash him or some such. He needs "his" soap. One of the others is just a pickup, another is the virtual machine guy. So they shouldn't be too big a deal. Another is just up the street, a guy with a Mac he says he spoke to apple about and messed up further. Huh?
*shakes head*
Wrote a bunch of the next chapter, but didn't finish.
Made the soup. Sooo good. Made a lot, might last me all week. Sorry salad!
Tues:
Went pretty well, actually.
Morning one went fine, just cleaning a machine out. It was fairly new so it went pretty fast. Came home to eat, then back out for my 12:00. That was down the street, and not as bad as they were making it out to be. I figured out what they needed me to figure out and got My Buddy's stuff to bring him. Which I did.
Virtualbox guy had his printer hooked up wireless, and I couldn't get the virtual environment to see it. So I ended up just plugging it in. Then he wanted to export the file and email it. Nice of him to tell me his needs when I was there the first time.
I wasn't going to change him, but he insisted. So that was nice.
The Mac guy down the street had himself all messed up, passwords wise. I got him mostly straightened out, but I think he has three different Apple accounts. I at least got the password reset on the oldest one. The reset links didn't come before I had to leave, though the first one came right away. Odd. And it's a lucky thing, he hasn't had RR for some time, but apparently his old email account is still active. Huh? Otherwise I might not have gotten the link, as he uses Frontier now. Write your passwords down, people. In a format you can read and understand later. Not on a million post it notes, various scraps of paper, and separate notebooks.
Then picked up the ancient Dell to go over.
Finally got home, started the scans on that, and ate dinner.
Made some calls, three for tomorrow, but one is a return, apparently I missed some files when I transferred his old machine last year. The other is just delivering speakers. So only one real job. 9:30, 1:00 and 5:15. Sheesh, space them out even more, why don't you?
Wrote more of the current chapter, still didn't finish, darn it. Getting long too, have to wrap it up.
Wed:
Went well, though still very cold out, and I only changed for one of the three jobs I did. Sigh.
Morning one I dropped off the speakers. I thought they were the ones I had originally given my father but they were still new. Where did the other ones go?
Then the only real one, just checking over a machine and getting it set up, as it was pretty new. She was actually the daughter of another customer, but I've never worked for her directly.
The last one was like I said, just getting the files I missed off that hard drive.
In between I read more Worm, finished up the chapter, and thought about how the book was going to end in three more chapters. Yup, should be 100,000 words give or take a few. A respectable increase for the third book.
Supposed to be 5 degrees warmer tomorrow, can't wait!
Thurs:
IT WASN'T. It 5:00 it was 10 whole degrees out, and it had snowed a bit during the day.
So the first job was fine, with one snag. Setting up a printer, and it wouldn't connect wirelessly until I turned his router off and back on. Why? Who knows.
Then over to set up a router and take care of a few little things.
Back home for lunch, checked my webstites, then over at 1:30 to drop off the tower from yesterday.
No answer at the door, and the cat wouldn't let me in. Also tried calling her twice, no answer. So I just left it on her porch. She called later at about 4:30 to apologize, saying she had a migraine and had laid down and must have gone to sleep. Sigh. It was just fifteen minutes I stood there in the cold, no big deal.
Back here I read more Worm, totally ignoring my own story. I needed to know a timing issue but now I do. So I can continue as I have been.
No others calls today? Huh. I guess everyone's bundled up against the cold.
Got the PC batteries I ordered. Of course they were the wrong size. What am I going to do with 5 too big batteries?
My cell phone battery has not yet arrived, and I ate the last of the soup. I do have problems, don't I?
One more day of February, and at least another week of winter, the forecast is cold and snowy for the forceable future.
Watched the second Star Trek continues, as I finally remembered its existence. Sean reminded me a little while ago, but I promptly forgot again.
Looks like game over at RIT tomorrow night, maybe we'll find out more about the attack from last week. No word on anything Saturday, but Stan said it would be last minute when he found out if his plans were going forward.
Did a bit more writing, finished the aftermath of the last chapter and now have 1000 words to fill on this chapter. Two more to go!
Stay warm out there.
