Fri:
Saw the last dial up holdout in the world in the morning. It's not really his fault, he's on disability. But yet he can afford cable, so… Anyway, his machine just had some odd things going on, so I took care of them.
Dial up. Honestly. I had to hook into the one unsecured wireless connection (remember when they were everywhere? Pepperidge Farms remembers) to get the java and firefox updates. Also to look stuff up. Haven't had to worry about that for a while.
Then over to the ?? guy, where it turned out he had updated to windows 8.1 which whacked his Classic Shell. I put it back to rights so "modern" stayed where it belongs. Out of sight, out of mind. (No comments about microsoft being out if its mind)
Then I played a little starcraft, went over to see my parents, and then went to Sean's. Good game, mostly dominated by secret messages passed between a bunch of us and our Narrator. Isn't it sad when future aliens don't trust each other? :-)
Sat:
Won Starcraft 2 and am looking forward to the third expansion.
Started work on the skyrim quest!
Then my parents came over and watched two movies. Thanks for dinner!
Then I went back to work on the quest. Got the door working, so you can go into and out of the library. It's kind of small though, maybe I need to find a bigger building. Oh well, more time to work on it tomorrow.
Humm, along with sherlock, reading, a movie Sean gave me, a movie Mom gave me that I forgot about… Busy day.
Sun:
I did exactly as I said! Started the day trying to figure out how to remove the messed up library building from the world and plop down the new one. I had a mod that did what I wanted to do, removed Lucky's shack from the world and let you rebuild it. But the script wouldn't open, or I just don't know how to find it.
In any case, after some searching, some messing about, and a bit of luck, I figured it out, and it wasn't actually all that hard. So I worked some more on the interior, making it bigger.
Also watched Mean Girls, the Magic Emporium, and did some reading.
Not many calls this weekend, but I do have two jobs tomorrow. A cleanout, and the guy I ordered some RAM for before my vacation who lives off exit 29 and then south a bit more. At least I'm only 15 minutes from him after my 4:00, so I don't have to drive all the freak down there and back for a RAM install.
The laptop I put on ebay sold, so I'll box that up tomorrow and get it out. Shopping. No bank so it shouldn't take as long.
Mon:
Snowing like crazy most of the day. Hates it, yes we do.
Got my first bill from the "new" water supplier. I went to sign up for automatic billing, and I would have had to download a form, fill it out, attach a blank check and physically mail it into the company. Seriously? What is this, the 90s?
So I just used my credit union's billing system.
Shopping went slowly, the roads were nasty. They still are, technically.
Then watched the episode of Sherlock I forgot Sean gave me while I ate lunch.
Worked on the quest a bit, then left. Thankfully, the snow had stopped about 2:00 so the roads were getting better. Stopped at the mortgage place- guess what? Exactly, no one was there. They fooled me though, by leaving their door unlocked. I was wandering their office calling to see if anyone was there. They weren't. What the heck? How do they do any business when no one is there to do any work?
The job I went to was just a cleanout, so that went just fine. Was early to put in the RAM, which I did, and made the long drive home. Ate dinner, made the few phone calls I needed to (and didn't reach two people now) and made 2 appointments for tomorrow. A follow up on the dial up guy (joy) and a person coming here.
Went back to working on the quest. I think, at the very last second, I got the initial library looking like I wanted. Maybe I can figure out how to take screenshots and show you! I was having a problem with half the floor disappearing but I finally got it to stay put. I just have to carefully look around make sure everything is lined up like I want it.
Could be all of 7 degrees tomorrow, looking forward to it!
Tues:
Hey, it's snowing again! Tiny flakes this time rather then big flakes. I'm a big enough flake for anyone!
I'll be here all week. Try the chicken.
My 12:15 said his machine was working again "after it downloaded" something so who knows? So I was down to one appointment. Guess the rush really is over.
Didn't last that long.
I did see my 1:00, later then that, of course. He just wanted the password taken off his admin account. His anti-virus was expired, so good luck friend.
Other then that I made bookshelves and populated my greatlibraryinterierfixed cell so it looks all nice. I'm actually sort of pleased how it came out. I've gone from knowing nothing about the creation kit to being somewhat comfortable with it. It does have some issues, the mouse control is terrible, but maybe that's just windows. The first part of the beginning of the quest can now be scripted.
Otherwise, I did get some calls today. So I have two places to go, one person having trouble with VLC (which I'm sure will take no time at all) and the other who I think did some kind of restore on their system, stupidly? I'm not sure. He said his data was safe, so…
The lawyer guy got his laptop, so I need to call over there so he's there when I come. (unlike a certain mortgage company) Otherwise, a crappy week.
Wed:
Getting cold again. Single digit today.
The first guy actually had a real problem. VLC won't play DVDs on his system for some reason. If you drag and drop the video_TS folder onto VLC it'll play just fine. But it won't do the auto open thing anymore. He's not the only one, but still, what's the difference?
The second guy did the "refresh" of windows8 a machine I didn't even know he had. Thanks for having me over to set it up and everything. But it got set up properly now, you're welcome, and I straightened out his quickbooks problem. (the windows 8 firewall)
Got back at 3:00, worked on the quest some more! Had a little trouble getting the dialog options to come up, but I figured that out and got the first stage of the quest complete. You can talk to the spirit, agree or refuse the request, and come back later if you do refuse. Next stop, making an NPC to do the cleanup work on the library in exchange for gold or killing bandits.
Two jobs for tomorrow, a setup for the lawyer guy and a person with a newish computer that never got set up right, so needs some work.
Should be bit warmer too, 10 degrees instead of 7!
Thurs:
Couple of things done in the morning. Went to see the lawyer guy, he had all but one disk, of course, so I got the job mostly done. They found the disk later so I'll probably finish up tomorrow.
Went to see about the laptop for the mortgage company guy, and for a wonder they were there! I did, in fact, forget to load the drivers for most of the hardware. Whoops.
Then I went and got the PC from the credit union guy, and came home to work on it. Infected, but not too badly.
Meanwhile I snowblowed the driveway as the snow had finally stopped. Still quite cold but at least the sun came out a little.
By then it was almost time to go so I posted my weekly chapters, finishing Learning The World so now the only story I have to post is the Harry Potter one. For another year and a half.
Got to get going on Helping People Club.
But first I must finish the quest, which I didn't work on at all until my last appointment. Cleaned her machine up and gave her what she needed to not look at "modern" anymore. Came back here, started reloading the desktop machine the mortgage guy gave me. Not that I can return it tomorrow in any case, I'm booked solid. What's with everyone calling later in the week anyway? My calendar is practically empty M-T-W but I have two for Saturday even. Oh well, can't complain…
Or can I?
Not sure about game this week, nothing has come out.
Started snowing again. Weeeee.
Coming to the end of January folks, how about that? See you all next week.
