2013-11-14:
Fri:
And so another week comes to a close. Went to the lawyer guy, and as with 80% of the times I go there, she "rebooted the server" and "everything seems to be working." Of course she called to tell me this at 9:30, and I walked in the door about 9:35, having left a few minutes before that. Thanks!
So I went to see my parents, who were not there?! WHERE COULD THEY BE? Sigh, needed to talk to mom about Sean's gift, darn it!
Came back, messed about with Neil's gift, and why it wasn't being accepted by the service. Oh, I selected millimeters instead of meters as the scale for the file. Whoops.
Ate lunch, then out to the three appointments I had for the day.
Went back to "laptop crashing guy" and saw his problem. Wasn't overheating, I think it was hardware acceleration in some videos. I updated his driver and that seemed to do it. I hope so.
Then slightly early to a clean out. Machine was actually running pretty well, but I took care of some stuff, so I drove for 30 minutes, worked for 30 minutes, and then drove home for 30 minutes. Huh.
Worked on a putting a design up I had made in Shapeways, but didn't finish.
Out at 4:15 to my last job, a machine that didn't seem to have much wrong yet still sat around doing "nothing" rather then perform the scans I requested. So it turned out I was there 1.5 hours for a .5 hours job. I vacuumed the machine and everything, may as well make some kind of effort. And it did need it. Got barked at by dogs. Also, oddly, windows has failed in yet another interesting way, hurray. You can open zip files as normal. But try to copying something out of the zip file and it goes through the motions all right. But does it actually copy the thing? Nope! Looking it up didn't find much, just many others with the same problem and to use a different method of unzipping. That's what I left them with.
Windows- you've surprised me yet again. Well done.
And that was the day. Came back, finished the design and got it posted on shapeways.
There will be game tomorrow, apparently, so that's good.
Ugh, a week of November gone already?
Sat:
No jobs, or so I thought. I did go out in the afternoon as the accountant guy called saying his wife had been scammed and I needed to check the machine over to make sure he hadn't left anything bad in it. So I did. Otherwise that day I finished the latest chapter in the Harry Potter story and talked with mom about Sean's gift. Doesn't seem too difficult, but then, what does before you've begun?
Went over to Sean's for Shadowrun at 5:00, which went pretty well. It worked out rather unexpectedly but we got the teacup (yes, a teacup) out of the secure facility thanks to some clever hacking by yours truly and some bluffing by the onsite members of the team.
And then it'll be two weeks again.
Sun:
Wanted to rake the yard, finally, but it was sort of raining. I managed to get the front done and then packed up. Played Remember Me for an hour and checked again. It had let up, so I went to go do the back, and it started up again. But as I watched, the clouds were whipping past in the sky and off in the distance it was clearer. So I waited, and it was really windy, and finally my patience paid off and I got the lawnmower out.
Which wouldn't start.
Finally took the spark plug out, cleaned it off, and it started right up after that. Going to look into electric lawn mowers or something.
So I chopped up the leaves and got them to the front before it rained again. I think only about a quarter are still on the tree, and it's still windy, so maybe they'll just blow away naturally?
Then went back to playing Remember Me. An interesting idea, marred by some technical and story bizarreness. Almost won it.
Mon:
No jobs??? Aarg.
Went shopping, no bank of course, Veteran's Day, so thank a vet. Not that kind of vet. Got some new shoes, mom basically shoved money down my pants (kidding) and told me to go do it. I'm keeping the old pair for when I do painting and stuff. *points to head* Guts!
Then got what I needed for Sean's gift, and forgot to buy salad. I mean who forgets to write salad down on their shopping list? It's what I eat for lunch, how could I miss it? I bought salad dressing, but nothing to put it on? Sheesh.
Then back here, worked on winning Remember Me so I could give it back. Of course I now remember I won't see Sean this week. Oh well, it's won.
Remember Me- The game that has you pressing the X button one milllllion times.
I counted.
Got a few calls today, and it was still windy and raining and cold and nasty. Super!
To finish the day I worked on Sean's gift, got it ready for assembly!
Tues:
*Gets up*
thinking: I'll just look out the window here, see what's going on out- WHY DO I SEE SNOW ON THE GROUND?
*runs back to bed*
*humming to oneself*
thinking: can't make me go out there. Nope, not going to make me. AHAHAHAHAHAH.
I wouldn't mind, you know? A little snow, more then a month before winter officially begins, with leaves still on the trees and whatnot. That's all fine. Even put me in a little holiday mood and I heard the charlie brown christmas special song yesterday so that helped too. But to have the sun come out, right? To make me believe that maybe things would be okay after all. Then in the afternoon to start heavily snowing again, well, that's just too much don't you think?
Uploaded all the objects I've made over the… well, last year anyway, to shape ways, maybe sell them? Went to my 1:00, just setting up a router and answering some questions about what I did for her last week. No trouble there.
Got two systems delivered here so I started work on the one. It failed the quick test for the hard drive, no surprise there. It is an ancient Dell.
Went out to my last one, which was just setting up another el cheepo HP system with no real power supply. Oh well.
Came back, finished the other one with a new Malwarebytes record of 1505 things found. No wonder the machine was just sitting there like a lump.
Dentist tomorrow and two jobs. Didn't reach the last person I had to call, her phone was busy for three hours. What is she on dial up or something? Who talks on their home phone for three hours anymore?
Wed:
Got to the dentist, but she must have been running behind as I wasn't seen until 10:25. Was a bit worried I wouldn't get time for lunch before my 12:00 but she powered through and said everything looked good. I'm set for six months.
My 12:00 just wanted some questions answered, mostly about iTunes, but her internet speed was terrible. Like, less then 1Mb/sec. I reset her router, no luck, so she'll have to call Frontier.
So I got to my 2:00 a bit early, and he said whatever was going on stopped. I checked it over and did a few things, told him how to check what the highest CPU user is.
Came back here, tested an NES for Heather, and it works fine. Still got the Mario Power. Amazing I still remember the secret locations of the coin blocks and such, guess it's programmed into my muscles now?
Also popped in Zelda, the theme never sounded so good as on my (crappy, garage sale bought) surround sound speakers.
Then worked on Sean's gift. There was a tricky bit at the end, but I think it's coming along okay? Maybe? And they've finally stopped yelling about thickness over at Shapeways so maybe Neil's will finally move past the "fix it" stage.
Hardly any calls today, so only one job at 1:00 at the moment.
Buddy isn't getting the apartment, now because he's "not homeless" because he's in the nursing home. Uh, what? You would think they would want to get him out of a place like that, which is hecka expensive, and into an apartment, that is not. But what do I know? So I'm stuck with his stuff for the forceable future.
Maybe playing some left 4 dead tonight? Haven't done that in ages.
Which didn't go so well, as it was a hard level, and Sean's internet died, I guess. Oh well, we tried!
Thurs:
Only had one actual job, the guy I helped with the book is at it again, making 125 separate documents for his next one. Of course his numbers were off by 3, and somehow he turned #119 into an alias to his applications folder of all things. I put them all into one document and told him to just do it that way.
As he was down the street from the accountant guy I went to talk to them, as they were now worried about their machines after his wife got scammed. So I offered what I could (not being an expect in security stuff) and told them I would look into some things.
As I was there much too long I didn't have time to work on Sean's gift. I wanted to make stickers for The Shops, so I did that. Also did a tiny bit of raking (there is still snow on the ground) in the front. Weather icon for Sunday is rain, but sunny saturday, so I'll try and get the back ones done then. They are finally mostly off the tree. Though there are trees I can see that still have a lot of leaves on them. Also I've never heard the leaf truck go by this year. Odd. Snow again by Tuesday.
4 calls today, which thus far has equaled one job. The guy somehow got his screen sideways again, so I'm going to straighten that out tomorrow morning. One was RR mail, not knowing her password or security question to reset the password. I said to call time warner. One was no answer. The last... I forget, and I have a cat so I can't go look. Oh well, it'll come back to me.
And the phone that's been busy for two days was still busy. Who is this person talking to?
Got $8.80 in staples rewards, wonder what I shall purchase with such wealth.
IV Friday, we'll see what orders the captain can give this week.
And November is half gone. I need to get the rest of my christmas shopping done. Two weeks to thanksgiving.
And like, nine days until the new season of ponies!
So at least there's something to look forward to. :-)
