2012-12-06:

*cue mad laughter*

Ahem. Sorry about that.

So what did we miss? Friday, yes, there was a friday. Set up an all in one Lenovo. Windows 8 has apparently lost its time waster games of solitaire and minesweeper unless you want to go through the eighteen steps to enable them through the interface formally known as "Metro". Some sort of xbox 360 tie in apparently. As I disable that crap first thing (so as to not field over 9000 questions about "why does windows not look like windows anymore" you're out of luck.)

Took a laptop to reload rather then cleanout because we wants to give it to his granddaughter. Got another laptop on the way home to cleanout, because he doesn't. Went to see My Buddy and sell him his printer. Tried him at 1:10. No answer over the intercom. Tried again at 1:25. No answer. Gave up and went home. He called me later, apparently there's a problem with the intercom? By that time I was inside both machines (oh yeah,  a threesome!) so I said "too bad". Finished both machines. Got response from company, they are sending me replacement part.
More borderlands 2, because.

Saturday I trudged back (uphill, both ways in the snow) to My Buddy to give him his printer. Not much else exciting, but game in the evening with The Crew. It went well but started slowly (as usual) so the exciting stuff started happening when the Stan/Sean part of the crew wanted to bail. Heinous. But we'll pick it up next week, so win.

Sunday: Two episodes of Red Dwarf X and started season 2 of Thundercats. Worked on a very minor gift I'm happy to tell you about later. Got 9 calls over the weekend, two of which were scheduled for the next day at 5:00 and 7:00. Super. Driving in the dark, love that. Got a 1:00 from an email. Parents bought new house, closing in January. It's already empty, why such a far out closing date, one wondered to himself? Wow, homes from my past are disappearing… fast.

Getting closer to level 50 in borderlands 2, if you cared?

Normal routine monday morning. The 1:00 was just answering some questions. The 5:00 was a "cleanout" but as people can't tell the difference between their Road Runner Lite at 1.13 mbps and their machine being slow, I was not needed. His machine was fine. I talked to him about bandwidth. The 7:00 was not far down the street with a broken printer, which I guess worked out. Played the next chapter in Halo 4 and went to bed early in case the roof guys showed up at 7:00 or something. I shouldn't have worried.

Tuesday I saw another brave soul exploring the boundaries of 1300kpbs DSL speeds. Again, the machine was fine. Went to see the printing guy I work for in Hilton, who apparently couldn't follow the simple three step process I gave him the night before to transfer one Mac into another. He successfully attached the two machines together. He successfully mounted the old machine on the new. But he just didn't follow through with opening "Migration Assistant" but instead just started copying stuff from one to the other. And then you wonder why nothing works? So now I have to go back there tomorrow because it was going to take three hours. 80 minutes of driving? It's fine! No really!
At home the roof job is shaping up pretty well! No metal underside, I guess that was an assumption on my part. I must have read that online and just thought they all worked that way? They just put wooden slats up there, and are attaching it that way.

That shows it pretty well. Looking goooood.

Out to give some small assistance to a lady but at least set up a time for next monday to bring her a printer. Also fixing a corrupt windows profile, in Win7 of all things. Saw that all the time with XP, not so much anymore. Thought they fixed that little bug, guess not. Thanks MS!

Oh, and did my paperwork.

Wednesday was kind of a big day. The roof got about 75% done I estimate. Got the part in for the mystery machine, and it actually solved the problem! Made a tiny something for someone because they lost that something somehow. Did it two different ways, and started learning dos and don'ts for this thing. There's many settings and no real guide as to "if you're doing this, use these settings!" so I'll keep some notes and throw them up on my site for others.

If others visited my site. *sadface*

I offered to send the defective one back but he just said chuck it. Weird, I would want to talk to my manufacturer about that… Anyway, started playing around with it, see what I can do, and hopefully get my xmas gifts all made now. More in 20 days when the big reveal happens.

Seems I've misplaced my "rainbow shell" knife someplace. It's always clipped to my pocket, and when I use it, back it goes. I don't set it down. But where it is? WHERE??? Sigh, have to use my huge knife I guess. You could kill a gator with this thing.

Got a dead G4 laptop, I guess someone thought I could do something with it. No.

Then today the roof got 98% done. They all packed up and left, but two ladders remain. I notice some finishing at the very tippy top of the breezeway needs to be applied. Did they run out or something?  No knock on the door "hey we'll be back to finish up tomorrow" or anything. Weird. I would post more pictures but they left just as it was getting dark so by the time I put my car in, got the ladder to have a closer look, etc it was too dark. I'll take some later.
Otherwise did two quick jobs in the morning. One person just setting up a new skype account and a more worthwhile use of my skills, getting into a machine with an unknown password. She was hiring a Deaf man because they were going through paperwork. I haven't done ASL in… wow, 13 years now. Sure came in handy, thanks for forcing me to do it, RIT.

Sean's gift is coming along nicely! The major work is done, now to create the place it'll exist. Neil's is getting there too. Used one trick I read about online to really improve the experience, so I'm pretty happy with the machine. There's still some work to do, like can I even make Mizzy's? My first try failed but maybe with the trick… I'll try it again.

Game tomorrow and Saturday. Going to make calls now, sorry Squeaker on the Lap, you cats always come at the worst times, I swear. So I don't know what jobs I'll exactly have. No Mom again this week, craft show.
