2012-09-21:
It is the wise man indeed who knows which are which. I thought perhaps, as something interesting had begun this week, it might continue. But now I'm not so sure.
But is that victory, or defeat? Only the future me knows, if he can be said to exist. I can't even say I do, so he's no help.
Pretty light this week, but maybe some things to complain about.
Shopping monday, no surprises there. Set up a new machine.
Tuesday was only one as well, at 6:00. I don't seem to have an invoice for that one, so I have no clue. Oh wait, yes I do. I accidentally put the date down as the 19th when it was the 18th.
My iPod Touch battery is totally dead now, you see, so I'm still thinking about what I want to do about it. I don't have a soldering iron with a small enough tip that I can unsolder the connection and put in a new one.
If Sean ever figures out exactly how costly adding the smartphone to his plan will be, I might get Mizzy's old phone, making it irrelevant. If I don't, I might just get an older shuffle. I only use it as a clock and a calculator anyway.
But of course a new one would have that nice camera, which I would love to have with me at all times. The last generation's camera wasn't so hot, apparently.
So I'm not sure what to do about it. The point of me telling you that is not to garner sympathy, but to explain that I no longer have a working watch I can wear for the moment. I could dig out that old solar powered Mickey one I guess. Where is that thing? Box someplace, I expect. So the date is also a bit of a mystery to me.
Anyway, just a regular cleanup. Done.
Wednesday I set a machine up here, because the guy apparently doesn't have the internet. Who doesn't have the internet? Honestly.
Then at 12:30 just some questions answered, and she said she was thinking of getting a Mac. Fine by me. Then at 4:30 a bizarre printing issue with Firefox. Trying to print two pages of something will print one page, it'll show the status of printing page 2/2 but nothing actually happens. After an hour and a half of banging it I gave up and said "just print page 1 of 1, and then page 2 of 2".
Stupid windows.
Then Thursday just one again, he wanted a better router then I had, so I sold him one.
Then today at 9:30 was an old dude, still using PeoplePC of all things. They still exist? Wow. He called me later, the three step program of "open PeoplePC. Minimize the window. Open Firefox" just proved to be too much for his withered brain to retain for more then a minute. Apparently he finally figured it out. His IE6 wasn't working with ESL's website anymore, hence the need for… basically a new everything. Loading a single website over dial-up was painful! He gave the "standard old guy" reasoning, which I still feel is backwards: "I've got lots of free time, so I'm in no hurry."
No my friend, you are 87 years old, and admitted to me that you can't see or hear very well anymore. You're fading fast. Do you really want to waste what little time you have waiting five minutes for your bank website to load instead of doing something a little more worthwhile? Well, your call.
That was down the street from my parents, so I stopped in about 11:00. No one was there. Sigh. I made a lot of things mine, (including one thing I didn't expect that had a lot of zeros) and came home.
Then over to Bert's to unplug his router and cable equipment. I left him Heather's old wired router, he's going to put it in if he keeps having trouble.
Then wrote this because I realized I hadn't last night, and now it's about 3:00. Game tonight, more Demongate adventures. Been tweaking my new character, and sent Sean a whole list of questions: "What happens when she does this or this? OR this happens?" He was like, "well, I never thought of all that, what do you suggest?" and then I was like "Well, it cost me 8 background points (12 really) so maybe it's okay, but you could do this or this" and he was all "let me think about it".
So I'm letting him think about it, because that's the neighborly thing to do, right? I can never tell.
More Pyre tomorrow. What, my two favorite games right in a row? Yer kidding me!
Probably install some RAM for a girl tomorrow. Not sure what else. I've gotten a plethora of calls for some reason today. Where were all you people two days ago when I had nothing to do?
Oh yeah, last weekend. Helped with the shed. I think it went well, we got the whole roof done and I ruined my jacket getting tar all over it. But we replaced the rotted beams and boards, rolled the paper down, then the shingles. Then I left for Sean's to do Shadowrun. Nothing much fun Sunday, because I'm a nothing much fun kind of guy, you know?
Enjoying September? Only about a week left of it you know. Happy Fall by the way, it starts tomorrow.
3 months.
THREE MONTHS.
