2012-08-30:
I got called by four people named John this week, and worked for all four. I worked for no one else tuesday and wednesday. What's up with that?
It's been pretty busy here, with one great giant jerk to tell you about.
My monday afternoon one canceled, so I did a different one instead. Shopping as usual, of course.
Tuesday I set up the new system for the people with the ancient Sony machine. Don't see too many Sony PCs. Hey, did you see Lexmark is getting out of the print business? I think my mother has a lexmark. Well, she probably buys clone ink anyway. I have a laser printer by them, but it's just inkjet printers that will be a problem.
Anyway, the second one is great giant jerk. I called him around 7:00 the night before and made an appointment for 1:30 the next day. When I get there (15 minutes of driving) and ring his bell, he's all like "Can I help you?"
Here is the extent of our conversation:
"This is 241 Hemmingway Drive, is it not?"
"It is."
"And it is one thirty as agreed. I'm Robert Z and I'm here about your computer."
"Oh. I'm sorry. I had someone else take care of it. I guess I didn't call you to let you know."
At this point, Brain was like "Let me burn him with powers! Set his hair on fire, yeah. That's the ticket."
I held Brain back and left. Idiot. And a new number goes on the blacklist. Haven't added one in quite a while. It was lonely. Not anymore! Now it's like a happy puppy. Honestly, you make an appointment with someone, then with someone else, and then have the audacity to be surprised when the first guy shows up (on time I might add). Sir, you are a horrible person and I hope you die in a fire. Soon. Yeah?
He kept saying that in his message. Yeah? Like he was a bit yeah? off. In the head.
But I forgive him. Yeah? Wait, no I don't. Because I'm a horrible person. Yeah?
Yesterday I sold the 60GB SSD I had ordered for Ellen, finally, to a person with a dead drive. SSD are so great. And a cleanout. and I stopped in to see someone because I was in the area. So that all worked out well.
Today another cleanout, and another dead hard drive! Huh. Ordered another SSD, but a bigger one, she stored more. Another case of "Plug it into a PC and get noplace. Plug it into a Mac and it works perfectly!" Stupid PCs. Honestly. You can't even read your own file system. Your own NATIVE file system. How dumb are you?
Don't answer that, I already know.
Only a little progress has been made on the book. 35,789 words now. Been tweaking my next Demongate High character because Sean is talking about that game. That we'll play in another six months. If then. But I have her future all planned out, so we'll see how well I did.
Tuesday was more Gears de War 3, we're stuck at this one part and it makes us sad.
Labor day is of course coming up. Looks like we're having our "get together" this Sunday instead, and it's a doozy. Lots of things to do on the list. But they aren't long tasks for the most part, so it should be fine.
Get to see My Buddy tomorrow and give him his new power cord to replace the one he destroyed. Honestly, you saw his machine, you know how he treats stuff. But he's all "oh, this was a used machine and it's junk." No Bruce, it was a used machine two years ago, and it was perfectly fine. It would still be perfectly fine if you weren't such a *every bad word imaginable*.
Then over to the hotel tomorrow. Apparently one of the systems I sold them is booting from the other hard drive. Hummmm.
One person I didn't reach and the other wants me to call around 9:00, so there may be another.
No mention of game this week, so I have no idea what's going on there, if anything.
Picked up a sweet, sweet piece of glass that used to be a sliding door. Nice and thick, it'll really keep the heat in. I'm talking of course about my heat engine. I'm going to remake it with this enormous piece of glass so that it doesn't come all apart like my old one in the summer. But I need a larger vehicle for the wood. I was lucky to get the glass home with my back door open. It was just up the street, so that made it possible. Well, science made it possible. Or perhaps you could say my car was intelligently designed? It was. By the Japanese. I'm going to try and make it so the glass fits snuggly into the box rather then sitting atop it, if possible. It will require precise measurements, but it may be that I am perhaps almost up to the task. I'm not sure how intelligently it will be designed, but with Dad's help (in looking over the figures if nothing else) perhaps it can be done. After all, if he could be turned he could be a powerful- wait, sorry, slipped into Star Wars mode for a second there.
And that's it. This month is done. We are spiriting towards cooler weather (20% cooler?) and it'll soon be time for a rapid barrage of holidays based around pagan traditions and usurped by others. There's only 4 months left in 2012, you know.
How are those resolutions from this year going? Don't worry, in four months you can make them again. And THIS year you'll really stick- oh who are you kidding?
And to all those going back to school, I have two words.
