2012-08-09:
Good week, work wise, this week. At least up to today. Monday was just the shopping, then over to Jim's to check out his router problem. Oddly the guy just changed the name of the wireless and it started working? Huh? Hummm.
Tuesday was very busy. Set up a new machine first thing. Then a cleanout, and added 1gb of RAM to a Vista system struggling along with only 1gb of RAM. So sad. Then another cleanout, but that machine was actually fine. Then a guy who needed to borrow a DVD drive to install dragon speaking on his netbook. Yeah, that'll work out. Anyway, I had an hour before he was going to be there so I stopped into the lawyers office because one machine was having fits opening that stupid Amicus program they use. Every time it went "online", *poof* crash. I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, then waited 15 minutes for it to slowly rebuild the database from the server. 100Mb connection, 15% utilized, tops. Super. But it finished with just enough time to get me back down the street to the DVD guy. It was a ninja fix, actually. Neither of the two paralegals were there, so I just slipped in, messed about, and slipped out again. Good thing I'm not someone with bad intentions, they could have given me their whole office full of data. Next: XP gave me this stupid "Error 39" even though it knew it was an optical drive on the end of my adapter. Tried two different drives, no go. Ultimately I copied the CD to his external on another machine and installed it that way. It complained 1gb of RAM wasn't enough.
Then Ellen at 6:00. Good old Ellen. Don't remind me.
The next day, started just down Bay road, he had 30,000 photos in iPhoto. It looked like he dragged his entire application folder in there somehow. Just row after row of tiny thumbnails, pieces of programs, clip art, you name it.
Moved a HD from one machine to another, installed an ethernet card (it was that old) and hardened the thing. Dropped off the macbook pro with the new 128 GB SSD. They're coming down in price. I approve of this action.
And replaced some fans in the Spice Bazaar machines. Also worked on, and picked up Mom's machine that was acting up. Turned out to be the video card, and getting her Hackintosh to recognize the new one wasn't easy. But I managed it.
Brought it back to her today, and that was the only "work" I did. The only computer work, anyway.
I also wrote 6,449 words of "No One To Blame" the next book I'm writing. Set in 2031, the daughter of Dean and Yasui from the Dean books. She's an ESPer, and the series is kind of like the Dresden books, only she's not a wizard. It's going pretty well! I have the plot and characters all worked out, so I just have to dump it from my brain onto the page.
One job at 4:00 tomorrow. No aged one to see. Wow. Nothing planned for Saturday. No game I guess. I might still go over to see him? Who can say?
So that's it for this week. It's lazy day tomorrow, so go ahead, be lazy!
Or not, if you're too lazy.
