2011-10-17:
Got something to complain about before the day was even two hours old. Pulled into the ATM outside the credit union and was like, wait, what? It looked all different. Well I studied it for quite some time because I had read about cases where thieves had replaced the entire fronts of ATMs but it seemed genuine. So I stuck in my card and began my new journey towards… wait a second, what do you mean "no envelope". Their new "thang" is instead of just feeding the envelope full of cash/checks into the machine that it laboriously takes each check, scans it, shows it to me, asks me to type the amount, then moves on. After check #1 I realized this was going to take FOREVER. But I could feed in my whole stack of cash just fine.
I know, I'm in the minority, most people won't have more then one check, so saving the envelope is environmentally friendly yadda yadda but why take away a feature of the old machine? Was it that tough to just leave it there, AND put the new stupid check feeding thing as well? And it could count up that stack of cash just fine, why not just let me put everything in on one bunch and sort it out later?
So now it's actually quicker for me to leave my car, walk inside, wait for a teller, wait while the teller does her thing, leave, back outside, get back in the car, drive away then it is for me to use the ATM. Maybe it's some sinister ploy by bank tellers not to lose their jobs? Not so sure.
I'm all for the new and different, don't get me wrong. Okay, I'm for the new and better. This is new and worse. There's a difference. It's one of the 101 things Sean finds exasperating about me- I'll do something according to the rules, and then he'll change the rules so I can't do that thing. Makes Hulk angry! Leave what I can do alone, would ya, ATM designing people? New features: A-Okay! Take away features: Booooooo.
Went to the library, and thought, hey, there's a whole section of movies here! I could take out, in addition to books, a movie. And I also saw FF13, which I thought I would try, given FF8-9-10-11-12 were no so great, I don't really want to risk paying even .01¢ for it before I've tried it, so I thought that would be a good way. Score!
Otherwise, normal shopping. Then just made it to my 11:30 the last man on earth with dial up internet, and I mean really crappy dial up internet. He says he never gets above 40kbs. I extolled the benefits of even the lowest price broadband plan. And answered some questions, and hopefully got him off some crappy DOS based database program… with a spreadsheet.
Home, ate lunch. Went out to LeRoy, RR really messed them up. Gave them four IP addresses, they needed at least 6, and it wasn't a router so technically they were not all on the same "network" so they couldn't use the printer or file sharing or anything. Nice. So I sold them a router, but then he wanted to block Facebook, because hey why hire employees you can trust not to use the web all day when you can just use a technical solution? So he ordered a router at twice the cost that would block sites. Whatever.
And back home. Ate dinner. Huh. Got ready for tomorrow a bit, going now to make calls and then finish up that last battle. Three calls today, My Buddy Bruce (didn't you talk at me for twenty minutes last night?) the church saying that battery doesn't last long or something? and one actual customer. With the other actual customer I already have for tomorrow, I might have two. Plus I got a really cheap flash drive so I can drop that off too, as I got Floyd's files off his old HD.
