Wasn't feeling too hot yesterday for some reason. Sneezing and running at the noise like crazy. Totally fine today. Weird.

 

So what's the news? Friday wasn't too busy, Picked up the laptop from the church, but I don't think it's really savable. I've ordered something for it, we'll see. Then got My Buddy Bruce his cartridges, and went to see grandma. Then spent the evening trying to get a system working. Yes, the entire evening. It was BSOD and hangs so I reloaded Vista and it BSOD in the middle of the setup! BOO! So I changed the processor and that let it get through the setup. Yay! Then I messed up and lost all the files from one of the user folders. BOO! (Well, I say I did it, but we all know it was windows, yes?) And then it started to BSOD of again. BOO! I left it trying to get through the 117 Vista updates because windows itself said stability would improve by applying some updates. Yay! But it got stuck on #26 so I went to bed. I woke up at 5:00 or so and went down to check it. BSOD. BOO!

 

So Saturday morning I used my thinking thing and thought some, realizing that the time it ran best was when I had the ethernet, PS/2 and sound hardware turned off. So I turned them off again. Ran the updates again. Rock. Steady. Yay! So I gave it back to them with the instruction to live without sound for awhile, (I put in a PCI ethernet card) and see if it would stop acting up. We'll see what happens in a few days. Before that I replaced the power supply for one guy and that brought his machine back, thank you very much. So I did some actual good that day at least.

 

Yesterday, weirdness, watched the last Dr Who and then Farscape for some bizarre reason.

 

Then today, shopping as usual. Just one job (sigh) and an easy one at that. One UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME that running chkdsk took care of. Oddly, usually the "windows recovery console" that's installed is small enough to boot up the machine, but not in this case. I had to come with a CD as they didn't have one. Nice job, Dell. Though it's 50% likely they had one years ago and lost it. So maybe it's not your fault.

 

And then the two years reference in the title. Wow. It was two years ago this month I signed up for okcupid. And it was tonight I deleted the account. I was going to wait until it was two years exactly, but recent events have… well, I'll start at the beginning. Just a few days ago someone mailed me. Someone perfect. Someone I hadn't seen because my search parameters were a bit restrictive. But, oh, this girl- cute. Good sense of humor. Liked a lot of the same things I did. Writer, has her own blog. Played D&D and liked it. (We could sell her on Paragon easily enough) Heck- she and I had the same favorite Sailor Scout and Doctor/Companion. This one, I thought, I might have a chance with. 

 

We exchanged two whole mails, and like the others, she disappeared.

 

And that really made me think. If I couldn't keep the interest of someone who had so much in common with me, someone I really wanted to meet, what real chance did I have?

 

Obviously, something in my approach is wrong. But what? I ask leading questions to solicit more responses. I mention things we have in common. But apart from Miss "I'm Moving To Florida" everyone I've talked to just sort of disappears. Why? 

 

I have no clue.

 

And people disappearing on me starts to wear, you know? And I refuse to be one of those people with pictures posted from five years ago because that just says "hey, I've been around for years now and I'm starting to get desperate." No. I can take a hint. At least most of the time. I think. Maybe.

 

So I closed it. I looked for two years and found no-one. And if that's the way it has to be, so be it. Oh sure, maybe in forty years I'll regret not trying harder or whatever, but honestly I have to live in the now, not in the future. I've been happy the last ten years, here on my own, so I will probably continue to be. You can stay, Squeaker. Even if last night you somehow knocked the top off the aquarium on top of the other aquarium and somehow got in and killed Bluetooth without knocking the whole thing over and waking me up. I mean, honestly, the stack was twice as tall as he is, how did he do it?

 

Too bad though, I really thought I had a chance that time. 

 

I just, I don't know. I've seen people way fatter, dumber, or jerky then me together with someone. What do they have I don't?

 

Oh right, they didn't use PERsonality as their dump stat. (An ironic usage, given that it's a stat you're not dumping points into but rather dumping the stat itself) 

 

He warned me, you know. That stork that brought me, while I was rolling up my character sheet. "A PER of 3? Ineptitude: Social? Are you nuts? Just so you could get Aptitude: Computers? It'll never work!"

 

I should'a listened.

 

Anyway, enough babble, I got things that don't need doing. Wait- strike that. Reverse it. Wait, that's not right either. 

 

One job for tomorrow, he "can't open attachments" or whatnot. Super fun.

 

Oh, and I did paperwork today too. Another banner month. Oh yes. Got ready for Sean's B-Day a bit, installed a gutter extension, you know, the usual.
