2011-06-12:
I know why you're here. Allow me to fulfill those expectations.
In no particular order Friday I did a cleanout for someone at 1:00, though really it was her crappy .158Mbps Verizon connection that was her main problem. I made some suggestions but that's about all I could do. Looked at two machines dropped off, and then gave them back. And gave back the other two machines that were sitting on the breezeway. Went to see grandma. She was asleep in her chair when I got there, she hasn't done that in quite awhile. And she kept nodding off, so we'll see.
Saw Mom, discussed having Dad over next week, and went to Sean's. Game went very well. We got through stuff, took care of the aftermath of the tournament, and actually stayed on track almost the entire time. Amazing. Carlita started learning Hardening and suggested a "training room" and found out creating a pocket dimension costs a couple million dollars. Whoops. Guess Carlita won't be setting up a secret "destroy Spirit Hunter Society" in one of those any time soon. But there may be more Sundered Spirit Hunters coming who are afraid for their lives so we need a safe place to hide them. She'll keep working on that. Then we sailed to Atlantis, yes, that one, in time to see it under attack by Angels. You silly angels. My Cheesecake was good, as was the dinner Mizzy made, and we watched a Green Lantern story, so all in all, an excellent night.
Saturday I finally got the spring installed on the garage door so it goes up and down again as it's supposed to. I just have to watch it very carefully as it still just keeps going up like it's going out of style, thus hitting the wood beam, unlocking, and slamming down again. For the moment I'll just open it while I'm in there watching it. Also learned the panel had a battery, which is probably why the keypad stopped working. Took me way longer then it probably would have taken dad, but hey. Took me awhile to figure out how to actually get the spring in place as I couldn't stretch it, and it was partially stretched on the other side even with the door open. But no-one got killed or even hurt so that must mean I did it right. I also tried installing InDesign I got from Sean. I won't bore you with the whole story, but needless to say, ADOBE YOUR INSTALLERS SUCK *EXPLETIVE*. In the end my ninja ingenuity got it installed and running, and I started moving it from Word. How it gets away with some of the things it does… like you have to click with the iBeam cursor at the BOTTOM rather then at the TOP like every other program on earth since the day computers started having mice. Burned me so many times because I start typing after clicking, only to realize, oh, I'm on the line below the line I actually wanted. This makes sense how?
Played some oblivion, oh, and put the tarp around the heat engine so it doesn't explode this summer.
Today I cleaned, and even gave the filter thing on the bottom of the dishwasher a good scrubbing with a toothbrush. Finished most of the Sprite World book, you can
see the results here. I'm pretty pleased, actually. Ordered a power supply to replace the one I sold last week and two backup hard drives for a guy. Re-ordered the shirt I got for Mizzy for her 2 year anniversary ("I heart my geek"). I got Sean "The dice are trying to kill me" because there really wasn't a male version of the "I heart my geek". And second anniversary is cotton, hence shirts. Right? Sadly, though in my brain Re: Mizzy "She's just a little slip of a girl, I shall not order the large" I still ordered the wrong size. So that's going back, and the replacement should arrive. Balanced my checkbook from two months ago because I didn't do it in April. And answered the few phone calls I got. Two for tomorrow, and one for Tuesday.
Of course, bank and shopping tomorrow. Gotta get some yummy food for Dad when he comes to watch Dr Who for father's day, and I think I'll make just regular old cookies for next week. So I'll probably need some ingredients for those.
Got this flyer from Frontier, $14.99 "high speed" internet. You have to sign up for a year, have their phone service, oh, and there's a "$6.30 monthly modem fee" wherever they got that price from. And what sort of blazing speed does this wonder of wonders package offer? In tiny, tiny print, "up to 1 Mbps". Yes, that's right folks. You can get speeds slightly faster then the modem you're still using (you unfortunate sod you) for probably more then you're paying for dial up (again, get with the program). Wow. That's just… wow. And they boldly advertise this complete crap with this other "fee" tacked on like we won't notice. All while time warner offers speeds FIFTY TIMES FASTER. Think about that, something downloading over this line at, say, fifty seconds would take a road runner extreme customer a whole second! (all other things being equal.)
Where do I sign up?
