2011-03-06:
I was talking to the lady I worked for before my laptops went missing, the one who said they weren't there, about further work (upgrading her crappy old mac mini with wireless) and she was like, wait, what's your laptop bag look like?
It was there the whole time! AARRGGG. You... stupid.... arrg! But the laptops are safe. SAAAFFFFFFE! Goooooooooooal! Sorry, little carried away there. They are not lost, not stolen, just someone can't figure out in their own house if something is their property or not. Well, possession is 9/10th of the law so I guess they were her property for the duration. How do you trip over a huge laptop bag for three days and not notice? I was right by the front door too. *shakes head*
So I'm ordering her parts for her, my laptops and I shall be reunited forthwith.
Oh course, today I went through the stack of laptops I had here to see if I had a suitable replacement. One I knew was dead, the screen had been smashed in. That one got taken apart for it's various inner bits. One, a dell, needed a power supply, which I found an HP power supply substituted for nicely. Reloaded it and got it working, it just has this weird vertical stripe of weird color on the screen. That one will be my stand in for the time being. The other is a very old 700Mhz machine that booted but insists there is "not enough memory to run" windows 98. Yeah, old. I ordered a (very cheaply) CD-ROM for it (I only have the floppy drive) so I'll put some form of windows 2000 on it or something and sell it equally cheaply on ebay as a complete unit. For someone just to bang around on, it should be fine. So at least that's finally out of the way.
Also today I cleaned, watched more Star Trek, and made phone calls. Again, plenty of calls, but only two appointments made for tomorrow. One I already know the result of, her backlight died. Nothing I can do but maybe find a replacement monitor and tear the laptop apart to get it off and change it. Yeah, that's going to happen. I also looked Carlita over, and found out she had paid too much for one of her powers! She took "Elemental Touch" at two points, but in reality it only cost one! So silly. I also realized I had made a poor choice of increasing her defense from a 1 to a 4, which cost four points, when there was now a power that cost less, but did more! The power "resilience" makes all damage you take non-lethal, (until it spills over into lethal of course) which is a much better fit. Defense below 7 is pointless in a way, given the kinds of things we fight which are all supernatural and have offense numbers usually STARTING at 5-6 (the theory being that if your defense number is higher then the attacking "thing's" number they bounce off). I'm not sure that power existed when we re-made these characters put that would explain why I didn't take it then. So I wiped out her defense increase, gave her that power instead, and put the now gained two points into swiftness, making her speed go from 10m/action to 30m/action. Nice. With these changes in mind, her previous battle would have gone more as expected. Normally of course these changes would not be possible, you're stuck with what you choose, but given how these characters were built and rebuilt as the rules change, and powers I didn't even know were possible to take, are possible, I think I'm justified in modifying her a little.
I also found a few other questions I posed to Sean.
I have been informed that making up powers not on the list is acceptable, under the "additional abilities" section. I was unaware of this mainly because it did not appear in the table of powers, thus I considered the list to be exhaustive. With this new information, I would like to retract item #2 from my last entry. I leave it because those were my thoughts at the time, and when I am reconstructed as a hologram from my writings in the 26th century, I want the reconstruction to be accurate. This does, however, call into question the other spirit hunters I have made, given that I may now wish to revisit their powers to see if some additional ability might be more appropriate, but that can be left as an exercise for the reader.
I also leave figuring out where all this snow is coming from to the reader, because I can't figure it out. The sky, I guess? It was really coming down this morning. This we hates, yes we do.
Mizzy is visiting her native land this week, so no game to look forward to. *sadface* Humm... increase cancer risk or a groping? Which would I choose? But what I do have to look forward to is... the 13th! Yes, it's time to do the taxes again, and that's the chosen day. If only there were some other event on that day to raise my spirits. At least Mom thinks we are getting the credit again that we got last year, which should mean I get money back (which I will again immediately give them anyway) so cross your fingers I don't owe anything!
Shopping tomorrow, as usual. Still no library, as I just just started on the box-o-books Heather lent me at christmas time. I know, what's taking me so long? Playing Pokemon, actually. I started with His Dark Materials (again), I want to come up with an inheritor that has a knife that can cut anything somehow. Oh well.
