2011-01-04:
Yesterday was fine, I did the shopping as usual. Bought a new planner from Staples and then realized I forgot my ink cartridges, so I'll have to take them back next week. Went to buy shaving cream and there were two registers open. I went into one behind a guy and currently being served a lady in an electronic scooter. Then the guy standing next to her handed something over so I jumped into the other line figuring it would be faster. Well, no, because they had to price check everything but by that time, the guy I was in back of came over into my line thinking it would be faster. Joke was on him. He joked I might as well just grow a beard at this rate, which I found quite amusing. We finally got through that little time sink.
Two jobs, one I wouldn't have had to go to if he had articulated his trouble properly over the phone. It boiled down to needing to turn the proxy setting off. Love you XP, you're the best.
The other was a very strange case, one I hadn't seen post-XP vulnerable to, but I guess it is. When turned on, it would run the POST but then just flash a little cursor in the top corner. In XP I would say dead HD, but I couldn't test hers as the tool just froze when I booted from the CD with the diagnostic program on it. Great. So I booted my liveCD and it was fine? So I tried to do a fixmbr from the vista CD but apparently that command doesn't work anymore. I did, poking around online, see the "new, updated" command I need to use to accomplish the same goal, thanks for changing on me, Microsoft. Loveya.
Also did my paperwork, whoohoo, wrote out my wonderful estimated tax check and marveled at how my bank account had so much less in it, again.
Then today, quite busy, in the morning was a new laptop setup, and a friendly old dog. And a crusty old ME system that really, really needs to be put out of its misery.
In the afternoon was an ESC key that fell off, which I managed to get half back on and some old time customers with a couple of things. Hooked up a printer, hooked up an external HD, started a backup, tried to install a Hallmark card program. Stupid thing, it took like fifteen minutes to install, right? Then at the last second it would say "error" and wipe it all out again. Great! So I did it again and tried killing the installer without hitting "okay" thinking it might leave it. No. Something still wiped it out. So then a THRID time, and I just moved the folder when it was done, so it wiped out... nothing, and then put the thing back and it was fine. Super! They have the fluffiest white cat I ever did see.
Got home, dinner, not too many calls, which I go to make in just a moment. Don't know if there will be more Reach tonight, but I do hope so.
