2010-09-08:
Work was fine, a bit easier then I thought, even. First was a BSOD, which turned out to be a battery. Her battery had died, and of course PC machines have various "modes" a SATA hard drive can be accessed in. So of course her BIOS went south, which changed the SATA mode, which caused windows to freak out. Great design there, fellows. So putting in a battery, setting the BIOS options back to where they should be solved that one. Was down the street from grandma's so I cleaned out the first half of a cabinet. Lots of old paper stuff in there.
Next up was a guy with three machines, so I was afraid I would be there way longer then I was, but everything went pretty smooth. Basically just answering some questions and making sure his security stuff was set. What's he doing with three different laptops anyway?
Then to some people who needed a new router. I tried to get them to plug the computer in directly over the phone so they could at least get on, but when I got there the cables were all wrong, and I thought my directions were pretty clear, but, whatever. That took next to no time.
Back to grandma's, the bottom half of the cabinet was hardly full, so I also cleaned out the little airlock space in back. Anyone need any OFF? They have about eight cans.
The last one was the kicker. Trying to install some pirated version of solidworks for a guy, which didn't work. The installer would open, but then the "next" button would not highlight or do anything when I clicked it. I tried various things, for two hours, and said, not going to happen, sorry! I had by that time grown quite annoyed and that was that.
Only a couple of calls, but I have booked tomorrow up pretty good. Finished up a system I had brought home two days ago. Supper.
Still need to clean up from the clean up on monday. But who has the time?
