You can't change the past, but you can pretend it never happened. Which is mainly the same thing. After all, you have no proof the past happened apart from your memories, which could be implanted. So if you think something never happened, heck, even stuff that DID happen, on a cosmic scale it might as well not have. 

So here's what I recall happening today, which may or may not be true! 

My first/second one was good old firefox once again choosing to use the messed up windows proxy settings rather then its own. Again, if proxy settings don't work, try without it, and allow the user to choose. Not that they will understand the choice, of course, but the illusion of control is good enough for them. As I was about to leave, someone's father (someone who lived there, duh) wanted me to take a look at a laptop he had bought from some guy and was now giving him the "YOU. ARE. A. SOFTWARE. PIRATE. AND. AN. ENEMY. OF. THE. DALEKS. EXTERMINATE. EXTERMINATE." Something about wrong "geographic region" like XP was a DVD movie the studios didn't want blazingly being watched in an "unapproved" country. So I aimed for the eyestalk, but this was A. SUPERIOR. DALEK. and that didn't work. (i.e. I tried to relicence) No good. Honestly fellows, it's an eight year old operating system. Everyone who's going to pirate it, has, and moved on. Give me the darn unlock code or whatever so it stops phoning home and I don't have to reload machines because some idiot who thinks he knows what he's doing, doesn't. 

So I put XP on, properly, along with the rest of the security stuff that weighs down every PC to keep it from flying away, and that was that.

Come home, lunch at 1:30 or so. Got a call from the mortgage place soon after that, all the network stuff on his machine was gone bye-bye. That was a fun one. Apparently he was missing some ndis.sys file, which just happened to crap out his network stuff. Error 39. So much for that screen when I load XP about "protects critical system files" and junk, whatever.

So I wound up doing three when I had only planned on one. Came home, dinner, finished my book, started the one that led into that one, few calls.

Good old Bruce called again, he's now "looking into an adult home" so I guess being "locked away" was yet another lie. Not that I cared one way or the other, I'm long past believing anything that so called man says.

Also Sean got back to me about a question about delayed action so I put that into the Battle Runner (as I call it) hopefully finishing that up. The true test will be if it all agrees with what he does on the board. So, yeah.

Pretty full day tomorrow, should keep pretty busy. 90s again? Super!
