Oh, not that kind of horror?
Welcome to the last tuesday of May, 2010. You'll never have another.
The morning job consisted of my favorite, the low RAM machine. At least it ran, in the end, somewhat acceptably. If you qualify "somewhat acceptable" with "for 1999". It took PC133 RAM, which of course I have none of, it not having been made in some time. (is that english?) But I gave it the ol "heave ho" and by it I mean the accumulated junk. Also she was dropping packets left and right, so I hooked up MiniMac Black to the connection and it was fine. So I figured it might be the ethernet card, and got another. Pulled the machine apart, and lo-and-behold there already was a second one in there. Which was... disabled? Strange. But turning it back on and switching the port did a world of good.
Next: Entourage. Which apparently sucks? When it tried to display an HTML mail, it would crash. So I did a bunch of stuff, and in the end determined, you know what, even if I did fix this, the guy will still be using Entourage. Luckily, I was able to pretty easily move his contacts into the actual OS X address book (where they belong) and even got his mail moved over the Mac Mail. Take that, you eight year old piece of software, you!
Then, home. I saw Drew had called, so I figured I better get cracking on that whole horror short thing he filmed, so I got it all nicely sound effected, muzzle flashed, and credits. Done.
Then worked more on (what else?) the character creator. Well, I put a couple more into it, and then ate dinner. After that I started on the browser. Actually figured out how I'm going to do it, I think, and hopefully it won't be too hard. I have the layout done, so I think it'll look okay.
Then calls, booked three tomorrow. One new Mac set up in the morning, but balanced with a "new" PC setup in the afternoon. Someone gave her a PC, who knows what state it's in. But the day should be balanced if nothing else.
Then got ready for tomorrow, as Sean wants to play L4D2 tonight in a little while, which we did not do last night.
Finish up any last minute stuff and that'll be the plan.
Current spam: "right now we are working hand in hand with Western Union to track every fraudsters down... and as a consequence of our investigations it was agreed that the sum of eighty five thousand US Dollars (US$85,000.00)
should be transferred to you out of the funds that Federal Government of Nigeria has set aside as a compensation to
everyone who have by one way or the other sent money to fraudsters in Nigeria.... Contact the Western Union agent office through any of the email addresses stated below;
location.commission@live.com" Right.
A nigeria scam posing as a fund to "reimburse" "victims". Uh huh. And a live.com address. Nothing suspicious there!
"But remember - if it sounds too good to be true, it is probablya scam. In the circumstance, we unreservedly advice you to dissociateyourselve from all correspondence and transactions entered into based on evidently fraudulent and fictitious claims."
