2010-04-01:
Like cats, well, one cat, meowing and pawing at windows "oh, oh, I want to go out. Please, oh please can I- bird! Going out, right, please? Oh may I?" And where did all this warm air come from? It's unnatural to gain that much warmth in one day, I tell ya. Back in my day we had this thing called gradients, and we liked em! That and gradius.
Filling up 4 times in the last 15 days, looks like I'm getting 23 MPG? Which is crap, may I say? But I don't think I'm calculating it wrong. From the 15th to the 29th I drove 43790 - 43150 miles and took 28 gallons so 640miles/28 gallons = 23mpg. 12 days, (not counting sunday) 53 miles per day average (and last week I hardly went anywhere). With $80.81 spent, that's $6.73 per day. I miss chibi-kuruma.
Two jobs today. The first, that is the one that came before the second, was such that a mystery arose surrounding an odd behavior. While he complained of it hanging soon after boot, I experienced this symptom not at all. Until I turned all his stuff back on, that is. Then the afwserv.exe started chewing up 100% CPU. So much for multitasking. See, the way it's supposed to work is a program requests CPU time and the scheduler says "okay, you can have this slice of time." That way, if one program (afwserv in this case) starts requesting too much, the scheduler says "let's give the other children a chance to play as well." Then the machine doesn't hang up. This is not what happened. Somehow it took over both processors or something because the machine ground to a halt. I looked it up on my iPod and found a site detailing this issue in conjunction with some logitech software. I removed said software, and the problem went away. Odd.
The second, that is the one after the first, was also odd. But before I did that one I came home and squished the screen saver code into an actual application so I could possibly run the debugger on that sucker and see exactly what he was thinking at the time. This worked, in fact, which pleased me, so I'm now able to work on it as though it was just another program and step through the code, making it much easier to deduce my errors.
Not that I would make errors I hasten to point out. Algorithm Refinements. That's the stuff.
Then the second one, which I was told was having trouble saving in Word, and some error message about the catalyst software at boot. Well, when I got there I couldn't open firefox, sunbird, picasa or remove programs because either "the windows installer is not running" or I didn't have "administrative permissions" even though the account was the administrator account. So I booted in safe mode, ran some scans, it was odd, it seemed to work okay in safe mode. I tried running firefox in normal mode "as administrator" which actually worked. How about that. So I turned off UAC and what do you know, all problems vanished. So I just left it off. I mean, you can't "repair" it, it's not a program, it's just part of Vista. So what else could I do?
Came back home, worked a little more on the screensaver. Ate dinner. Had three calls, but all three were busy or at work or whatever so I didn't actually reach anyone. Nothing on tap for tomorrow yet.
Sean was going out of town but now he is not. So we're on for the World Hopping Game on Saturday. And I guess I'm going over there early to watch Running Man on Blue Ray. Which reminds me, I better convert my character over to the new system, as certain ESPer skills have changed. Heck, they all have.
Weather still looking up, so we should have a great Egg Day, I mean "Jesus Rose From The Dead" *snicker* day. You just keep on wondering what hiding eggs, and baby chicks, and rabbits have to do it while I smile, give thanks to Esotare, and know.
