Not my friend, mind you, but he must be yours because he keeps hanging around, you know? Odd experience in the library today. Went looking for book one so I could know what the freak was going on in book two that Mizzy gave me friday, and went straight, did not pass go, to the sci-fi section in hopes of snagging it. Not there. I found book two all right, no problem. So where was book one? So I put on my human face and went to find a librarian. Oh, and Amy clone, who used to work at the library? I haven't seen her in months! :-( Why do I even go anymore? Oh, right, the books. Silly of me. Anyway, we went hunting, and she went over to the "fiction" section, and I was like, oh, wait, we went too far, but she said, no, here it is. And astonishingly, (I was astonished, you can ask anybody) there it was. Next to yet another copy of the sequel. Bu huh? You've got two copies of the same book, filed in different places? That's weird. That taken care of, I totally did the shopping, and then to battle! And by battle I mean setting up a used Dell for some folks still using windows 98. Wow, welcome to 2001, folks. Glad you could make it, the punch is over there. It had been restored, apparently, it didn't even have SP1 on it. Seesh. So it took me a bit longer then I expected, as I figured it would be up and running the way the previous owners left it, and I would just clean it out. But no, I had to remove all kinds of crap like Norton 2002 and stupid Dell trial/demo things. Ugh. But I sold them a router too, and keep the number 113 in your mind, it'll come into play later. Then over to #2, who I asked over the phone, because she had a Mac that was "acting slow" if it was "acting slow" in general or just on the internet? She said "in general, I guess" but this of course was the incorrect answer, but that's okay because I don't believe anything anyone tells me about computers anyway, because they are dumb. I'm sorry, but it's the truth. And the truth will set you free. But back to the problem. I was worried it might be some hardware issue or something, Macs don't run slow, especially not 2.0Ghz G5 machines with a gig of RAM. And I was correct. She was using wireless from when her daughter was home and using a laptop. When she left, the wireless was not removed, so sitting not five feet from her empty ethernet port was the cable modem. See, dumb. So I took the airport express dodad that was totally being underutilized anyway (honestly, why buy a $99 airport express with USB port for printer sharing and airtunes to stream music to a stereo if you're not going to use it, and a $40 router is what you need?) and plugged it in directly. Problem solved. I'm a hero. A hero that was 45 minutes late. Because I too am dumb. I said 10, she gave me 20. That number from before, now it's 133. But I made it to #3 on time, the lady with the Mac from awhile back, who recently took it to mac shack (you remember) but turns out it was the motherboard (as I suspected) and too expensive to fix. So I bought back the HD I had sold her and copied her stuff off it, paying her a cool $125. So, what do you get when you subtract 125 from 133. I'll give you an hint. Eight. Which is apparently my profit for today. Not getting a new car on that amount, let me tell you. Oh sure, I'll probably be able to sell the hard drive, but still, right? Sean's bringing my memory card back! What a guy! I'll smoke him a kipper, maybe he'll be back for breakfast. Well, I can't sit around typing all day, I have to go take the penguin for a walk. And by that I mean, make phone calls. But you knew that. How do I know? Because you are not dumb. How do I know that? You read this blog, of course!
