Fri:
Another busy day. No haul. Had an 8:00 meeting so I made it with
plenty of time, having fed the kitties and bunnies and birdies. No
outside kitty today. Still very cold in the morning.
After the demo I wrote up the next set of bugs. Four in total. Two
from my asking "how do we change the language on this page" and the
answer being a drawn out "uhhhhhhhh." It's more of a feature request
than a bug, I don't think we're going to get any action on it for
now. Which of course means there's probably no action coming on it
in the future, which of course means it'll be some mad scramble
later as a customer we've already sold the thing to says "I have
both spanish and english speaking users how do I tell them to change
the screens" and we say "you can't."
We got the onedrive build minus the compression fix, so I did a
bunch of jobs to see how they compared. Predictably, faster and
much, much larger. Like 300mb+. At least they would run on the
smaller device, unlike the previous test. So this is probably the
way we'll be going.
Did the shopping, got some kitty food, and came home.
Had dinner, checked sites.
Wandered around some more in Remnant, looking for enemies to test
myself on. Build still holding up. I think there are more enemies
when there are more players, and we might use a higher difficulty
too so it's still not a true test.
Worked on the magic system, making more spells and refining things.
Then xbox with the others.
Sat:
Caught two more cuties! Decided to take them over tomorrow, give
them a day off with some good food.
I also had a cat throw up on the bed, and got a leg cramp. So it was
a pretty great night!
Went to feed everybody, seems I may not see outdoor kitty again, the
first time was just a fluke.
Did some house stuff after I got home.
Electronically deposited some checks as I haven't been to the bank
in some time and there still wasn't enough to really justify the
trip. Also got last month's paperwork done, figured I only had a few
days left in this month, I should catch up. All 3 of them went in.
Had lunch.
A bit of warframe, getting a few things done I didn't want to bother
the others with.
Wraped Mizzy's gift, her birthday is Monday but she's getting it
now.
Left for Sean's.
Game. We got to the plot of resolving my stuff at least. Finishing
up the dragon thing didn't take too long, what takes so long is the
"extra" stuff that's injected. In the actual game as it's not really
a role playing game these events probably last a minute or whatever
especially as the characters are clearly murder hobos. See two cult
members in the bar exchanging a weird vial of red liquid? Just go
over there and murder them! But as we're trying to get to the bottom
of stuff we have to tail them, and try to interrogate them, and all
this other stuff and it winds up taking an hour or more to resolve
it, and then in the end nothing is resolved anyway. Malachite
dropped the guy, later admitting the better move would have been to
take them to the guard as they were wearing cult apparel. First rule
of cults guys, if you're walking around town, don't dress like
you're in a cult! I mean, really. You know we live in the town, you
know we've "visited" your sites and made your people, uh, unlifed.
Why would you walk around town in uniform? It's just asking for
trouble. If two normally dressed men were passing around vials of
liquid we would have shrugged and said it wasn't our business. It's
not Sean's fault the game was written this way. It's just lazy
writing, again I think because it's supposed to be a throw away
scene in the game. Hard to know, as the game has some odd rules.
Anyway, we're back in time now or something, so it should be
interesting.
Sun:
Brought the mice over, it's warming up a little so that should be
good for them. Still wet as heck back there though. They were pretty
cute, didn't just jump out but were looking around like "yeah we
actually like it in this place there's really good food here do we
have to go? But go they had to. Sorry kids.
Everyone is lonely over there. Dusty didn't want to leave my hand to
get on his stand, and even Gabe the famous "don't pick me up" kitty
let me hold him a few minutes. Wow!
Came back here, read my weekly stories, checked other sites.
Had lunch.
Did unimportant stuff, nothing of note the rest of the afternoon. I
don't have to, you know.
Got ready for tomorrow. Made two calls, yahoo password guy, who I
think can put another cell phone number as the recovery number?
That's not very... safe? His son is coming next Sunday so he's going
to call them and try that. Good luck!
Didn't reach the other guy.
Then did Xbox. We got a few more of the relics but even trying for
the maximal chance of getting gold, twice, we did not. Sean got the
part from a student, along with some more relics so we can try
again, but this is ridiculous.
Mon:
No haul in the morning. The meeting got moved to 11:30 because one
person wasn't there. Early lunch I guess.
Upgraded a machine to the latest build, ran though the cloud stuff
as I had done the login method on a big and small machine, but only
a small machine for this one. So it needed to be done.
I only got part way through that. The meeting cut into my time.
And Don wanted a bug written about how slow our machine was sending
the file. I tried to reproduce it without needing OneDrive which of
course no one else has access to. Heck, even I don't, the build I
was using wouldn't load. I guess you can't go back again. Neat. I
did finally figure out a way to show it was slow, if not as slow as
I thought the onedrive was. It took about 25 minutes. BUT so did
USB. So really, if native USB scanning takes 25 minutes are we
really going to write a bug that EIP scanning takes 25 minutes? Why?
They're just going to say we know it sucks. It's a hardware issue,
there's not much we can do in software. Maybe if Lexmark hadn't
passively cooled their chips, and gave it more RAM, but that's what
we're stuck with.
Brought more food to my parents. As I did get 2 boxes of stuff. I
brought them a whole bag, and I'll eat lunch just from today for two
weeks. I got 4 toasted cheese sandwiches, which I'll enhance with
one of those long sandwiches with a week's worth of cold cuts. Crack
that open, take off a few slices, shove into toasted cheese, enjoy.
Came back here, checked sites, had dinner.
Little bit of solo Warframe, figured I would try that easy mission
and see about getting some more relics for the one part we need. I
did get a few!
One call today, and I reached the guy from yesterday. His problem
was- he had no problem. His scanner was working fine. Didn't reach
the lady who I will need to tell- for a third time- to reboot her
machine and stop calling scam numbers she sees on her computer.
Really, what sites is she going to that she keeps seeing these
things?
Tues:
Finished up the second test of the new cloud login. Wrote two more
bugs.
Had another demo, I think we have one more? Yes, tomorrow at noon,
in person even. Horrors. Let it be done!
Had the onedrive meeting, we should be on track to get them code.
All the hoops we have to jump through are crazy. Crazy, I tell you.
Came back here, checked sites and had dinner.
Half an hour on the phone to unplug the cable modem.
Then xbox with the others. Fingers crossed we get the part we need!
And we did! Yay!
But not the last part of a gun we needed. Boo!
Wed:
Only work thing today was writing up the bug, after a 40 minute
discussion with Don, (save me) about how our new machines are
terrible. He says it's important to have the conversation. Even if
it only leads to pushback on Lex (Luthor) to get us better hardware
in the next revision.
Otherwise testing is pretty much done until an official release.
They broke the release in today's build and were going back and
forth about how. They did figure it out.
Oh and the demo was canceled because of that. It's Friday now. 8:30.
So I did writing, got a chapter and a half or so of the emberhaven
story done. We're just to the point I say "let's get prepared" and
am about to go buy some magic. Then I have to write the whole
"cultist in town" part before we finally get underway.
Went to Good Will, as I forgot to on Saturday last. Whoops. Only got
2 things. Boo.
Came back here, had dinner, checked sites.
Did a bit of Remnant II, the new build doesn't make me unkillable,
at least when I'm facing 3 or 4 bosses at once. Yeah, don't ask. I
did get past it though.
Thurs:
Two meetings today. One with the onedrive guy, for their status, and
the usual one for the status and priority.
Did get a decent haul, half a box of stuff, so I'll have a few more
things to bring to by parents. Lots of yogurt for me for next week.
Otherwise just writing. Got the chapters written so I'm ready to add
more after the 11th. It's up to 12 chapters, almost 40,00 words.
Came back here, one call. Another person complaining about frontier
mail. Yippy. Probably won't be anything I can do for you either,
chum.
Checked sites, had dinner.
Made my call. He wants me to come out, why? I can just as easily
tell you there's nothing I can do about your stupid frontier "yahoo"
account over the phone. I'm going there Monday. Something to look
forward to.
Let's look ahead. There is the one demo tomorrow, if they haven't
messed anything up. Otherwise not sure.
I am sure of going to the store, seeing my parents. Oh probably
getting cat food as well. I just opened the boxes there's no rush.
Whoops, getting a call. It was the guy who flaked on me before!
Something about the wrong tuesday? Dude, why would I make an
appointment that far out without saying the date or whatever? Oh,
you just checked your messages now and realized what happened? Are
you an idiot? And saturday is "derby" day? What he has to wear a
derby or something? So I have to go out there Sunday. What a treat.
So much to look forward to in the coming days. Get your life
together, man.
Anyway. Tomorrow. Nothing has been said about game so we'll have to
see.
Saturday only plan is to have the parents over. Then my wonderful
Sunday appointment. Wonder if he'll be there this time.
That's about it. It's May now. Should be seeing those boats any time
now. Oh, oh, maybe I'll get to see some new kitties tomorrow?
Fingers crossed!
See you next week, you stay safe out there.
